They want to cover a more significant piece of the market. Everyone is going mobile these days so it's not a surprise they're doing the same. However I don't believe it's the end of the Diablo world, they will milk it dry in any possible shape or form. Thus, a fourth and probably a ninth iteration are bound to come in the future unless they go out of business which is very unlikely.
Also, if you think about it, launching a mobile game before a PC one makes more sense sales wise regardless of the apparent hate this presumably attracted. It's all about making money at the end of the day and the moment they'll release a new iteration the fanbase will resurface once again either to adopt and praise the result or to criticize it to the end by comparing it to the previous versions.
My point is patience is a virtue and the thirst of money will yield other PC iterations when the greed will reach high enough levels.

If I was a Diablo fan I would be dissapointed also. I enjoyed Killing Floor 1 (almost 250 hours for my first game on Steam). Then I saw some Killing Floor 2 gameplay from PC Gamer and the hype was real. Then Tripwire Interactive forgot about the fan base who gave great ideas on the discussions/forums and started with the Zed economy (cosmetics) on a game that wasnt finished. At the end they didn't care about the players.
Here is the same thing. When Devs/Publishers delete comments they send you a direct response. TWI did the same with KF2.

It looks really neat. Mobile is a whole another platform which all the companies want a slice of. Great work from Blizzard. Porting from PC to Mobile is a difficult task.

Nope, but to be fair at their conference Bethesda also confirmed TES6, so at least fans know that an actual TES is in development. And Bethesda fans are blind followers, so they will accept literally anything from them, even Fallout 76.

That fanbase has been extremely toxic since WarCrat II existed. That is nothing new.
granted, considering Blizzard has probably the most rebalance patches/game outside the MMO-only developers, you'd think 20+ years of this was enough to make people get used to it.
(Although, I have to add, Obsidian is also getting on my nerves with their incessant rebalances of their single-player games. I am still waiting for them to stop redoing the entire game system of PoE2, so I may one day begin to play it.)

Well if you want to understand the things about diablo franquise, maybe you will understand with that example:
imagine they release a WoW 2 (world of warcraft 2),
now imagine that this WoW 2 will be a mobile game with or without microtranssactions with absolutely 0 chances to play on PC even with the best emulator.
it's a simple example not enough to describe what this company did with D2 + LoD when they release D3 and now this.... this try of a succesor.
