Sometimes people (including myself) use the word "potato" as a metaphor for their computer (etc.) being useless. Dude1: "my laptop is pretty much a toaster". Dude2: "Nah man, your laptop is a potato". Most of the time that's an overstatement considering that if one's laptop was really that low quality it would use non-rechargeable batteries to a point where you might as well use potatoes as batteries.
