For 2 weeks now I'm getting pop-ups from Panda internet security 2016 telling me my license is going to expire in few weeks. Before I met my wife I never used antivirus but she always ended up killing the computers so I started buying them. I haven't had any problems with panda. I searched the discussions first but newest I could find was commented 7 months ago, maybe there are newer things I missed.

The question is simple is it worth paying for antivirus/security suites or go with the free ones. And which one are you using or do you recommend?

  • I need 3pc license (affordable)
  • If possible in Dutch language provided (my wife can't handle English well)
  • No use of keygen/ cracks so don't suggest it please

Thanks!

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but if you use Windows 8 or 10, just use the built in Windows Defender.

I submit malware for analysis and the quickest most efficient security suite is ESET NOD32

I think free antivirus is enough, such as Avira, Avast and MSE.
Nowadays viruses on the internet are evolving so fast that even payed security software can't fully handle it.
So there won't be big differences in free and payed ones.

Best free AV: Avira (I use it and you'll probably not need a paid one)
Best paid AV: ESET NOD32

This advice is important too. You don't need an admin account for most of the tasks you do with a computer. Windows uses admin permissions by default, and that is insecure.

Well, Windows already has security built-in (Defender, Firewall..), you don't really need more..

The most important rules are: Always keep your operating system up-to-date, keep your browsers up-to-date, and all other programs that get regularly fed fresh data from the net (mail client, flash plugin, pdf reader (when opening documents directly from the web and/or from unknown sourcres)).

Using a limited (i.e. regular) access user account is also a good advice, although not really necessary.

That said, the most important security products are:

You can check here http://www.comss.info/list.php?c=promo. On this site you can fine some promos for AV and other software and maybe the AVG Internet Security for 1 year is still up. Some time ago I installed it on a friend who still use Windows.

It is Russian language. Even if I'm not Russian (I am Bulgarian so it is relatively easy for me to use it, even if I have not studied the language ) I use this site often because of my Windows friends. Somehow many years ago, I became their free admin and support their systems.:) So immediately I thought of the site as it was useful many times for me with information that provides not only with the promotions.
I'm sorry and I hope to find a solution to your question.

Ty :) I installed avast for now and see how it goes. If not good I'll probably buy no32 or trend maximum security

I do not know, but I think that if you plan to buy something better to move towards Kaspersky Internet Security or do not go for antivirus only. Having a good firewall is also important. But definitely do not want to interfere in your decision, as you already taken such.
In all cases you must be careful when online, unfortunately this is the reality.

Avast is my choice... i get like one popup a week on how great it is. But it's just a safety net, nothing is better than experience and common sense.

If you haven't had any problems with Panda I would just stick with it. I have had problems in the past with orphan files when I uninstalled one security suite to install a different one. It's just not worth the gamble. Usually you get a reduced price when upgrading your present license through the software's interface. You may be pleasantly surprised to find that is is much cheaper to renew this way than it would be to purchase from a third-party retailer. I use Windows Defender and Malwarebytes and when my subscription for MBAM expired I was able to renew it for $5 cheaper than buying it outright.

I have no idea, I'm still using AVG Free 2012 and I update my definitions about once a year, maybe twice at the most. So my vote goes to potato :)

NOD32 is best imo, using it for 6 years and never had problem, very light on performance and has gaming mode.

Many people on reddit /r/techsupport and even on malwarebytes forums (because they are good combo) will recommend you NOD32.

I'll stick with Avira. It's light, it actually stops stuff from time to time, it actually finds and corrects stuff on other people's PCs.
Plus the occasional scan with SpyBot.
And 1:1 backups of C with Macrium Reflect. <3

I use "360 Total Security" by Qihoo, it's free and it uses multiple scanning engines, 360 cloud, QVMII AI, Bitdefender, Avira.
Pros:

  • Multiple scanning engines
  • Very little performance impact, less than Avast, Norton or even Panda in my experience.
  • Has some nifty tools, performance cleanup thingies and such.

"But wait, it's Chinese! That's a con!"
I know! But (sadly) at this point I distrust China less with handling my random personal details than Russian or American companies.

NOD32 best there is and very light. En volledig in het Nederlands.
Wordt ook steeds goedkoper naarmate je het langer gebruikt omdat verlengingen veel goedkoper zijn dan nieuwe abonnementen.
