I dunno... I watched so many different shows on TV that I'm not even sure which were anime and which weren't anymore. Pretty sure Pokemon (Diamond & Pearl) and Naruto (the pre-Shippuden part) were between them. The first anime I watched on my own without it being on TV and which I watched all the episodes of was Ranma 1/2 though. So I'll go with that since I think it's infinitely better than both Pokemon and Naruto. :P

UFO Robo Grendizer and Speed Racer, but if you mean stuff I watched while being aware they were japanese then Saint Seiya

The first full one was Yu-Yu Hakusho - watching in television in the evening, every Monday to Thursday... was one of the main reasons I had a year with somewhat less sleep than necessary :D
Absolute first - I don't know, sorry. Eastern block country, animes were after 8pm, and they didn't always bother with order, and it wasn't rare that the whole program was changed after a few months.

The only ones that were aired and I was a wee kid back then or teenager, Yugioh and Pokemon on TV of which both were awesome and translated so well but Yugioh better on the cool and interesting with factor, didn't see that much of Pokemon, tons and tons of year ago I watched some glimpses and episodes of One Piece, Blue Dragon, some wierd alien racing anime where humans don't have noses, bunch of Shaman King episodes when I randomly came across them on the TV but only a few episodes and occasionally not entirely fully plus's they were in german and Russian so no understanding whatsoever ,later first three Digimons, both Bayblades but not fully and mostly the second one, all Bagukans (first two were the best), later on some couple years ago or so I watched Inazuma Eleven, best soccer cartoon, I mean anime, ever. I've yet to seek out and watch specific anime's on YouTube but I did watch the entirety of Sex Taxi when I randomly came across it somehow. There are some I want to watch thanks to Chronexia Misty's top ten anime videos of varying themes, you should check him out.

very hard to tell, really
I watched anime from my early ages, so it's hard to tell which was first one
I should split it into categories:
for sure, first one that I watched knowing that I am watching ANIME was GTO (I am not sure, but this should be full title :) this acronym means Great Teacher Onizuka)
now if I move back, first anime watched with original voices in the background (in Poland we often had movies with lector, not dubbed, sometimes it worked the same way for animations/cartoons) was probably Dragon Ball GT (original and Z was with french voices in the background, GT was japanese) or Yaiba
and now something that could be really the first one: Alfred J. Kwak (Alfred Jonathan Kwak) or Maya the Honey Bee
other honorable mentions:
Captain Hawk and Ganbare, Kickers!, funny thing is that if you look at the images from this title you can say that it was maybe a prequel to Captain Hawk :) characters from both series look really similar, you can check the opening: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VHdVKBkIwRk
Little Princess Sara
Mysterious Cities of Gold
Robin Hood no Daibouken
Ulysses 31
Around the World with Willy Fog
Story of the Alps: My Annette

Either Death Note or Elfen Lied, can't remember exactly.

Honestly can't really remember about it. Anime was first exposed to me when I was little by Crayon Shin-chan, Chibi Maruko-chan, Doraemon, One Piece, P-Man (Perman), Detective Conan and Rurouni Kenshin. Can't remember which one I had watched first though since those were regularly aired back in the days.
The first anime series I've invested on was Keroro Gunso.

What Was Your First Anime?
What was your first anime ever? Some of you may have started with like a 20 episode anime, maybe some that started with 400 episodes of sheer epicness! My story began with Naruto! A suggestion from my brother. I played ultimate ninja storm with him, then I began the anime.
