There are far more gamer women around that you think of.
Considering dating one just because she's a gamer....I'm guessing that's an even worse assumption.

Speaking from a bit of experience, you're absolutely right that there are more gamer girls than most people think. They tend to not call attention to the fact that they're girls because it invites ridicule. I'm not a girl myself, but I've played with several, some who I did not find out they were girls until almost a year later. It's sad, but such is the state of 12 year old taunting and false bravado.

Indeed, OP would be surprised to see actually how many girls are playing the same games he plays, but then again considering his initial post, it's due to people like that (no offense OP, but you just happen to serve as a good example) that they prefer the anonymity of the internet.

I must be getting really old.. I didn't think these things existed ..

I'm a woman, and I know plenty of women who play all types of video games. Most have husbands/significant others who game, but I'm pretty sure it was never a deal breaker when it came to dating. I've always found that as long as there is good communication and a few shared interests the relationship will be a good one.
Why is the rum gone?
I drank the rum.

We are more common than you think, because whether or not I have male genitalia doesn't influence whether I want to game or what types of games I like. MOBAs are my favourite, but I also love FPS games (I can take a mean head shot.) I like RPGs, but I do also like The Sims or whatever "girly" game people like to attribute.
More importantly, people like me are everywhere and the vast majority of us would much rather you just ignored gender and focused on the game at hand.
As for relationships, it wouldn't be a dealbreaker for me but I would be disappointed if my partner didn't play games. An evening of gaming is how I like to spend my time, but if I really liked them then I would find ways to have fun with them without games and just do it in my spare time. I admit, that person would have to be pretty special for me to overlook lack of gaming together though!

Yeah, I bet you can...
No seriously, why do I never see a topic asking about how prevalent male ga,mers are ( who like to play all types of games). I mean, who decides the lines between someone who just likes to play a game occasionally, some who play just some games very frequently, then there is the CoD kiddies, then there are they guys who want to be all about the indies (aka gamer hipsters or something). Now tell me, which one of those are gamers? Well, if you don't know the exact line there, why even bother with that narrowed down on women?
The relationship thing is interesting though (as it might be more socially accepted for a man to game than it is for a woman), but again, you can get as many different answers as there are women reading this topic.
Edit: well, this was more in general towards OP, except for the first part of course. :)

why do you focus on the term girl gamer. i think its kind of weird, i thought gamer was a gender inclusive word, like anon. and for dating i dont think its good to box your self up in such a tight box. i know plenty of women that love to play games but wouldn't call them selves gamers. for any relation ship you just have to find some one who will trust and put ip with your hobbys even if she dosen;t participate actively in them.

I would consider myself a gamer (and being a female, I guess that qualifies me for "girl gamer"). However, I don't enjoy all genres (RTS and realistic sports games just aren't my thing), so maybe I don't meet your requirements to answer...? If not, maybe being a game developer gives me bonus points enough to answer. LoL
Oh well, I'll give my answer anyway. Yes, it would be something I look for in a relationship. Reason being, gaming is a huge part my life (it's my career and my main hobby). I would want a partner who would be able to relate to that passion. Luckily, I already found someone, so that's all taken care of. :P
As for the rum... pretty sure it was burned.

Why has the run gone? That's not good enough.
But seriously, yes I am a female gamer and it has no real influence over relationships past or presumably future. For me the more overbearing influence (that has broken a few relationships) is that I am in grad school (PhD) and that takes a lot of time and energy and gives me odd hours and a lot of stress.

You live in a rather small and closed box, gentleman, fitting to your brain.

Ok so after everyone insight here i decided to edit my post. My question then is how prevalent are girl gamers. By girl gamer i am referring to a girl who play all types and genres of games and enjoy them. And would it be something you look for in a guy. Would it be an important part of your relationship or would it make no difference if he almost never plays a game. Also why is the rum always gone?
