Hello to you all 🍒, fellow nerds, and thanks for stopping by! 🤓
Let's keep it as short as possible, shall we?
🍇
I am not a heavy gamer, and even when I do play I am not running the most demanding games.
Nevertheless, I came back to my GOG copy of No Man's Sky (no stoning please, I beg you!) yesterday and it was sooooo ugly. Tested with all options ramped up and it looked stunning, but my performance sucked. It may be the programmer's fault (Witcher 3 ran fine with decent graphics), but it reminded me it may be time to get an upgrade. It is a 5 year old PC, after all.

Here are my parts:
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950 🍏
CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 CPU 3.20GHz
Motherboard: Gigabyte H97M-HD3
RAM: 8GB Kingston DDR3 800 MHZ + 4GB Transcend DDR3 667MHZ
Storage: Kingston 240GB SSD + EDC 1TB HDD
Power Supply: CoolerMaster Masterwatt 600 Lite (600W)

Any suggestions would be welcome.
My thoughts were to 1st replace the GPU with something better (Maybe GTX 1650 super?) and maybe upgrade the CPU as well (I suppose a weak CPU 🍌 can bottleneck even the fastest GPU?).
Let me know your thoughts. Any hardware vendor that delivers is an option. 🍊
Due to high import costs in my country hardware components can sometimes cost x2 than in US. For example a new GTX 1650 Super costs around 600$ here, but I saw some good condition used ones up for sale for around 350$.
My budget is flexible but I am aiming to spend 500-600$ max overall.
Gimme your ideas.

Oh yeah, the bait... With fruits, to encourage you to stay healthy so you can keep gaming forever:
uppercase Banana, Cherry, lowercase Apple, lowercase Orange, lowercase Grapes
Enjoy! Ends about 46 hours from this post's creation time.

EDIT: Well, it is decided then. I will wait for the time being and in the meanwhile fight my backlog even further with some nice indie games. And yes, NMS does a bad job of using my resources anyway. Let us pray for a GPU market normalization soon. Amen. Please keep posting your advice, I learn many things that I did not know before.

I would keep other components and go for 1060, 1650S but not above.

Right now is the worst time to upgrade. I suggest you to wait until cryptocurrency falls back to the abyss. Then you'll be able to build pc at a decent price.
Buying old hardware at a price of private jet is no bueno..

I don't agree with the advice to remove the 4 GB RAM stick. While it would be ideal to have matching speeds and sizes, having 12 GB of slightly slower RAM is better than 8 GB. going a little faster. You can use a program like CPU-Z to see the RAM speeds you get in the OS.

Don't bother with a new GPU at the moment, if I were in that position I'd start looking for a deal on a used GPU, if you have patience you might find something good.

Nice to hear some other voices around this RAM issue.
Using CPU-Z I can see I am on 667MHZ.

I'm sitting on 750ti card still myself :D
Also looking at upgrade, but the prices are crazy..

I almost bought 1060 6gb for around 150 eur some time ago... now they cost over 300
But when the prices will drop I'm probably going to go with 1650 super or 1660 super.. depending on the deal.

If 3060 drops the price enough I might even consider that.. But who knows when will that happen seeing the prices now..
