I bought The Last Remnant recently and honestly, I didn't know what to expect. After the first hour, I thought it was gonna be terrible. After actually playing through a few quests and reading up on it online, as it offered limIted tutorials, I found myself pleasantly surprised by how much this game appeals to me. It lacks as much control as other rpgs, but that just keeps you on your toes. There's an RNG involved which gives the feel of a fire emblem game, where even against the most incredible odds, you can still find a way to pull through and other times, you can end up being destroyed by a few weaker enemies. Your party members largely grow in different areas and act on their own with limited input from the player character, but by forcing situations for units to act in certain ways and by your limited input, you can potentially create an extremely powerful character. And even if you don't know what you're doing, they mostly level up and take care of themselves so you don't even have to do much. The music and environments are simply amazing, and the in battle music changes depending on how well your team is fighting, so that's pretty neat. The battle system is unique, but almost feels like a mix between ffxii, kotor, and tales of Symphonia. Depending on how you organize your team, you can make certain units specialize in different areas without the added input from your pc. The only thing this game is lacking in so far is story and characters unfortunately, but I haven't gotten too far yet, and it definitely has a lot of potential

Costume Quest. Just put it up to try it out quickly like most indie games, and bam, loved it.

It was an adorable game and I loved every minute of it, including the DLC. I have very little appetite for turn-based combat, but the game was just so charming I couldn't resist.

Little Inferno (don't why but I felt happy whenever I burnt something)

Tiny & Big:Grandpa's leftovers (thought it would be shitty. I was wrong though)

The Culling of the Cows (Slaughtering cows is fun)

Batman Arkham Asylum (I thought superhero games are shit but I was proved wrong after I played this game. It's a masterpiece. This is the kind of game that every superhero deserves.)

La-Mulana: in fact, when I first played the original freeware release, I was unable to get into it at all. I gave it a second chance and this time it really grew on me, so much that I paid full price for the remake when it appeared on GOG.
I also didn't have much hope for Saints Row: The Third. I considered it some silly garbage that came in a bundle I bought for something else, but turned out to be pretty fun when I actually tried it.

Same here. La-Mulana's remake is now one of my favorite games of all time, and now I'm thinking of getting every single achievement.
Can't believe you got "All I need is one finger". Beating Palenque without subweapons must have been tough.

Even better, I did it in the same run as "Let's go together!". Palenque wasn't that tough, but I think part of it was just luck, and I still needed a few tries. Sakit and Baphomet were surprisingly more difficult, though.

I find Sakit easy to deal with, to be honest..

Should replay it soon and beat the Hell Temple.

Without secondary weapons in hard mode? That's what I meant specifically.

Defy Gravity: I got this one on sale because at the time I could sell the trading cards for a profit. I ended up reccomending it to a friend because it's one of the best platformers I've ever played.

I enjoyed that too. It's sad that most of the reviews come from people who just idled it for cards. Their loss

Mount & Blade: Warband
Even though it had lots of positive reviews, I never expected it to be that good. Now it's my favorite game!

Battleblock Theater
Super Panda Adventures
Papers, Please

There might be some other ones but those are the only titles that come on top of my head at this moment. Besides, I still have (too) many games unplayed in my library so I guess there are other little gems waiting to be picked up. ^^

Haven't played Super Panda Adventures yet (Nor bought it), but I think you might enjoy GunGirl 2 as well (Made by the same guy), and it's freeware!

Hey, thanks for the suggestion... I might take a closer look at it at some point. However, the more serious settings, compared to Panda, makes it a bit less appealing to me, that I must admit. (it's not that I dislike bloody games, quite the contrary, mind you) Still, I'm glad you made me discovered GG2, I had never heard of that game before. :)

FEZ - My hatred for Phil Fish immediately put me off from playing the game but when it came around as a Playfire reward I tried it out. It was pretty good.

Skyrim is the one that comes to mind. I hated Morrowind. Hated the gameplay. Hated how it had no direction. Yet I reluctantly gave Skyrim a try and ended up loving it.

Sleeping Dogs was a lot more enjoyable than I imagined, I've never been very keen on that sort of combo fighting style but I can't deny the game did it well enough to make even me appreciate it!
