The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing II - I loved it

On PC, the only game I ever pre-ordered was Warcraft 3 which I regretted. For console, the last game I pre-ordered was Socom II which to this day, is still one of the best PS2 games I ever played (along with one of my longest played).
After a 10+ year hiatus, I currently have Tales of Hearts R and Senran Kagura Shinovi VERSUS pre-ordered for my Vita.

Wildstar (didn't like it. quit after the first month) and just now, Dragon Age: Inquisition. The only reason I preordered these two is because I knew for a fact that i would/will play on launch date. Plus I used GMG 25% discount for both so I got a better price than I probably would for the first couple months anyways. Otherwise, I'm usually quite content to wait a year for the price to drop.

Guild Wars 2 was the last game I preordered. Since then, I've usually only bought games on sale (sometimes I buy new releases, but still only if they're on sale).

Pre-ordered:
Thief 2014 - Enjoyed it but i hated the map function. Hard to maneuver in for me.
Watch_Dogs - Enjoyed it. Hated that i couldn't punch annoying civs. Still waiting on T-Bone DLC.
Ac: Unity - Welp. Things look good so far. I pre-ordered 3 copies of the guillotine edition for me and my brothers. If it sucks, i shall not suffer alone!
Thinking about pre-ordering but currently can't cause i'm still broke:
Shadow of Mordor
The Witcher 3
GTA V

No, why would I ever do that? Why would anyone ever, really? Games always get cheap with time and paying full price for any game just seems nuts to me. Even more if you pay up front for a game you can't even play the moment you payed for it. For absolutely NO REASON. It's not like you won't fucking find the game after it'll be launched. Pre-orders are a remnant of an era before Steam, where people were afraid a high-profile triple A game would get sold like crazy the day of it's launch and so they made sure that they could get it that very day and have it delivered to their door-step. That was the one and ONLY reasoning behind pre-order.
Pre-orders on Steam(or any other digital platform), on the other hand, have NO JUSTIFICATION WHATSOEVER. A 10% discount? Really?Yeah totally worth it for a game you have no idea if it will be good or not. Remember Alien Colonial Marines. I bet the people who pre-ordered that felt like getting screwed in the ass with a drill. Most games don't even have that. I bought Bioshock Infinite back in 2013, just a couple of months after it's release and I paid 7.5 euro for it. That's a 75% price reduction on a triple A game who got almost entirely positive reviews and for which people paid 60 euro at launch and ...EVENE BEFORE. Because I was patient and I waited. And for what did they pay up front exactly? Not like they played the game any sooner than those who just waited for the launch. Exactly, they payed up front for NOTHING.
Bottom line: pre-orders are for idiots.

Well, sometimes you do get extras even if they are just small things. So getting absolutely NOTHING isn't exactly true. And pre-ordering online usually means you don't get charged until the game arrives so there isn't really a difference when pre-ordering or getting it on launch day in terms of that.

No, pre-orders are for fans. If you care about something, and want to support it, you're willing to pay full price. These fans are what keeps the industry alive. If everyone waited for a AAA game to drop to 75% off, we wouldn't have any AAA games.

I used to pre-order almost everything some time back before got decent broadband, to get the stuff delivered on day of release.
Now though, unless its a definate 'I want that!' i tend to wait until release, see the first impressions and reviews online, then decide if i should snap it up and download it right away or wait a little while. Either for more info to decide, a price drop/deal of some kind or perhaps wait for it to go bargain basement/not bother at all.
Recent pre-ordered titles have been;
Bioshock Infinite - Pleased, i got X-Com free which i really loved (more than Infinite itself)
Divinity:Original Sin - Really pleased with this, actually bought a special 2 pack working out at around £22 each.
Starbound (Early Access) - So wish i hadn't of got this way back when.. Dunno if i will fancy playing when its finally released..
Gauntlet - Got it cheapish as quarter of a 4 pack deal.
Borderlands Pre-Sequel - Had to go for this, borderlands series is probably my best RPGFPS series of games.
Wasteland 2 - Waiting in anticpation, hoping for awesomesauce!
Blood Bowl Legendary Edition - Not very pleased.. wasnt long when Chaos edition came out and needed to buy that..
Defiance - Soso i guess, soon got a bit boring after quests completed.
Dragon Age - Awesome game, i wish there was more games like this.
Dragon Age2 - Bleh, pulling away from original and what i really loved about 1 - should have waited til budget.
Games i'm unsure about now..
Dragon Age:Inquisition - So disappointed with 2, this looks promising, but seems more third personified, which sure is ok, but for this genre i really like the DA1 Style.. - Is gonna be a must buy i'm sure, but don't think will pre-order.

Once. Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs.
I was so disappointed. So bored. Not even 4 hours and I was through the game. They fucked everything up that was humanly possible.
The Chinese Room suck so goddamn hard.

On Steam I think I only ever pre-ordered Dark Souls II, reviews for the console versions were already in and I really liked the first part so that didn't feel bad. On my 3DS I pre-ordered a few games, also because there were those with very limited prints that basically dissapeared or jumped up in price pretty badly, but on Steam I don't think I pre-ordered anything else.

...and if so, did you like the outcome? The only game I ever pre-ordered was Abyss Odyssey (and I still didn't have time to try it), anything that ACE Team does is an insta-buy for me and I want to support them as a studio.
