The A button on my 360 controller. If that doesn't work because the game doesn't support controller and I forgot it didn't, then either click the mouse or press space.

Depends, if my left hand is on the keyboard in a natural position, space bar. Although, I just left-click quite often as well.

Space, most of the time. If it doesn't yield immediate results, I do a sequence. That's how much I hate seeing that sentence. Space-tab-enter-space-tab-enter-escape-escape-escape.

More than a decade ago, before they dropped the expiration date and were later bought out by Acer, Gateway 2000 had an official answer to the 'any key' question.

"First, look in the center of your 8-direction arrow key grid and you'll find an unlabeled key. That is the 'any' key. More to the point, the Gateway 2000 'AnyKey' Keyboard (TM) is fully programmable, so you can assign that 'AnyKey' to be any key on the keyboard that you wish."

CTRL - it's most unlikely that it will do anything more than skipping "press any key" screen, because it usually doesn't work alone. Like when you press ENTER you can accidentally do it twice and skip some intro etc.
