Some animes already mentioned here are better but since I didn't saw it in the comments try Tokyo Ghoul if you didn't yet. I really got invested in the characters for some reason. Some say the manga is better but i'm not really a manga reader so I can't say anything about that.

Your Lie In April is a "must watch".

I wanted to watch it but never did because I read the manga and it felt "pointless" to watch something you've read. :P

Yes. It's a big problem...
I prefer anime, but I hate when they dont follow through with the rest of the seasons, I guess that the do it to promote the manga, but if I go to the manga I have to read from the begining, that means reading what I already saw on the anime...

My number one dilemma, honestly. "Watch the anime or read the manga?"

Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood got me into anime, I still sing YUI - Again to myself occasionally, everything about it is just a masterpiece that I don't think I'll ever forget.

Steins;Gate made me realise how important it is to give things a chance, I started thinking the main character was so insufferable that I couldn't watch it. I was urged to stick with it, when I revisited it, I loved it and its intricacies so much it became probably my second favourite anime and favourite VN.

Higurashi, the first thing I watched that I realised anime was absolutely mental and not just about little girls running around and for pervs. It started off with me thinking it was going to be some shitty slice of life thing with fan service, I was about to turn it off when suddenly baseball bats happened and it changed my perception of anime entirely.

Yesss, +1 for One Punch Man. The remade manga is even better for some reason in my opinion, but I have to admit the anime was very well made and was extremely similar to the manga. Both are hilarious. :D

I can't recommend any anime (Samurai Champloo is my favorite though), but as you see such a thread gets quite anarchic pretty quickly. Thus a ranking like https://myanimelist.net/topanime.php?type=bypopularity is rather helpful. You can also filter them by genres.

Not really into anime, but I absolutely loved Elfen Lied, Cowboy Bebop, and Wolfs Rain. Especially Cowboy Bebop

Gangsta was such a waste of potential, it was really nice, universe, characters, fights and story, and out of nowhere it gets cancelled, what? I really did enjoy it but the ending was misarable :(
The episode ended and I went to see when the next ones arrives (was pretty hyped) and then I see its over :(

My favorite anime (in the order I can remember their names) are

  • Baka No Test
  • Sekirei (I & II, although the mange is much better)
  • Angel Beats
  • Fairy Tale
  • Sword Art Online (I & II)

My first anime was AKIRA, which is more of a movie. There are other anime which moved me (e.g. Welcome to the NHK), but I wouldn't want to watch them, again, as they were gloomy. I did like Hunter x Hunter, but the ending is a bit of a downer. Also, there are many, many anime I haven't yet had a chance to watch, such as Cowboy Bebop, Stein's; Gate, and Berserker.

I wish they would do a full anime treatment of Rosario + Vampire and Ah, My Goddess, but I don't see that happening. P

I think no one mentioned the grandfather of anime in occident:

  • Macross and all it's iterations. (Yes Robotech too, it's a good show)

I will second this:

  • Death Note
  • Hokuto no Ken
  • Great Teacher Onizuka
  • Ghibli ghibli, and ghibli ghibli ghibli

Others:

  • Everything from Satoshi Kon
  • Everything from Mamoru Hosoda (Wolf Children is specially good)
  • Garden of words (gorgeous little movie)
