Thank you gegeru! Feel free to add these very good movies. Have seen the first three, like them all. Talking about Steamboy, I'm a big fan of Akira as well. Thought about adding other Satoshi Kons like Paprika, Tokyo Godfathers or Paranoia Agent to my list, in comparison however Perfect Blue offers the deepest 'mindplay' in terms of 'thinking about it after watching the movie' for me. Bit pseudo sure, but that's the same with nearly all movies. Tokyo Godfathers was quite emotional though. Don't know the latter, will catch up on it.

Sakasama no Patema is from the same director who made time of eve (which is good too) i agree while Perfect Blue is the top movie from Satoshi Kon, almost every animated movie he makes is worth watching

Watching "Your lie in April" right now, it's a sappy romance story but very sweet. One Punch man is a must as well as the Ghibli movies if you're into movies rather than shows :)

...I mean lasting impression would probably be railgun considering I've been obsessed with it for the past 5 years and misaka has been my profile for everything...
but stiens;gate, hunter x hunter, baccano, gintama have all had considerable impressions on me

emotionally welcome to the NHK hit me but I wouldn't say I liked the experiance as much...
friend/girl I liked attempted suicide and then I watched NHK and it hit a bit too close to home
and idk I really liked a bunch of drama's like kokoro connect

Welcome to the NHK hit me so hard.... It was quite an experience. I avoid depressing stuff, but I still can't say I'm sorry I watched it.

Out of the ones none mentioned here yet:

  • Binbou Gami ga!
  • Ore no Nounai Sentakushi ga, Gakuen Love Comedy wo Zenryoku de Jama Shiteiru
Both insane and incredibely funny (to me). Specials are something you can't just unsee or forget easily.

As for the better known ones:

  • Kiseijuu: Sei no Kakuritsu (Parasite)
  • One Punch Man
  • Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu

The special ones I saw really many times:

  • Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust
  • Elfen Lied (mentioned here before but it just have everything and... argh, I am going to watch it again now....)

it isn't but it's definitely anime style, also one of my favorites. even though i like ATLA more, A:LOK is very good too it just gets bad rep

ATLA is my favorite. I lost count of how many times I've watched the entire series. I still haven't finished all of the seasons for ALOK, though. Real Soon, Now.™

Avatar isn't "Japanese", but it is white people (Americans) copying their art style and based on someone else cultural history (Chinese/Asian).

This isn't necessarily bad. For example the best and most well known games about Chinese historical culture are made by the Japanese. (e.g. RotTK type games)

Your lie in april is one of the animes I dropped around halfway through cause I just got bored of it. Seeing as everyone's recommending it I'll probably pick it up again. Clannad I've also started but I've never finished for some reason also gotta finish that. Rest were pretty good and I think Anohana is on my to-watch list.

Fullmetal Alchemist 2003. Haven't seen Brotherhood but I just might after reading all the positive comments here.
Neon Genesis Evangelion. BTW what's your opinion on the tetralogy (1.0 and so on), are they worth it?
Serial Experiments Lain.
Rurouni Kenshin (Up to the Shishio conflict, one of the most memorable villain in my experience)
Saint Seiya + Magic Knight Rayearth for getting me into anime in the first place.
Slayers - Never finished it but I found the cast just too likable hehe.
Soul Hunter - For the same reason above but to a lesser extent.

I always forget what I watched as anime and what I only read. But if I had to choose a single anime with a lasting impression it will definitely be Puella Magi Madoka. It has different interesting questions and motivations throughout the series and one of the most perfect endings for a series I've ever seen. Just to be followed up by one of the most polarizing continuations of an anime ^^ which is an interesting feat in itself.

Other than that some of the last ones I watched have been Anohana which can be quite the tear jerker and has a bitter sweet ending. The melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya has also its moments (although one has to suffer through endless eight ^^). But you need to see both seasons to appreciate the movie in its fullest (although it has this typical paradox I do hate -_-).

Have seen Your lie in april and Stein's Gate too. While they are good they didn't leave a lasting impression with me. Especially Stein's Gate got caught in its own ambition and logic -_-

Oh, Mob Psycho 100 % is fun too although I would recommand the manga over the anime. I should stop before I remember more

If you can find it, watch "The Big O". It's another one that leaves a lasting impression, and the OST is very good.

Not much there and I haven't exactly updated it much, but sure- watch list.

If I were to pick an anime (and manga) that left the biggest lasting impression on me it would be Ranma 1/2. I still compare every comedy I see to it and I can still go read any chapter of its manga and laugh even though I know what's gonna happen. :)

This is my MAL, I always update it the moment I watch an episode so it is up to date. I don't know about what kind of anime do you like, but if you like anime that are a bit darker, then check out Rainbow: Nisha Rokubou no Shichinin.

I know the first bit of Reborn is just to introduce us to the characters. Add that to the rushed crap with the time traveling and white haired dimension guy and it seems that Reborn just doesn't know what kind of Manga / Anime it wants to be.

I think the manga / show would have been really great as a Slice of Life of a Japanese Shounen having to get used to the Italian Mafia life, and eventually taking over without any of the superpowered nonsense.

Aldnoah's one of the few animes I dropped midway through. I just couldn't stand the main character. I mean I get wanting to make him look cool but that was just too much imho.
