I'm really interested in knowing your absolute favorite games that you always can "go-to" when you're bored. These are the games that you can play anytime, over and over again, and constantly find enjoyment.

This doesn't include games that you played a few times and stopped. Even if the game was great the first time you played it. Great examples of this would be The Stanley Parable (outstanding game but lacks replayability after completing all the endings) and Tell-Tale games.

Top favorite "Go-To" games

  1. Minecraft (1500+ hours) - Pretty sure this doesn't need an explanation. I've been playing this game since 2010
  2. Terraria (600+ hours) - The sheer amount of content in this game is incredible. Been playing this since 2011, and any game that can keep my interest for that long is worthy of praise.
  3. Rocket League (150+ hours) - This game took over my life this year. My 2016 motto has been "just one more game".

Honorable Mentions

  • Don't Starve Together (really close to being a top favorite) - Would have dropped so many hours into this game if I had more people to play with consistently
  • Binding of Isaac Franchise - Unlimited replayability but gets a bit old after a while. Still a fantastic game.
  • Killing Floor 1 & 2 - KF1 is a classic, KF2 is fun but needs a lot of work
  • Dying Light - I've never dropped 50 hours on a game faster than Dying Light. The only issue is replayability.
  • Left for Dead 2 - Thrives off of coop. Fun with friends, a bit boring solo.
  • Risk of Rain - Great with friends, always fun to try out new strategies with each run-through. (Great replayability)

It's quite interesting to see most of these responses, wasn't expecting as much diversity in these game selections

Pirates!, Dune II, Star Wars Galaxies are the ones I keep on revisiting. Don't really have that with any modern games, rarely play them more than twice.

League of Legends - have played off/on for 4 years, a lot of fun when played with friends so don't have to deal with the community. :D
Hearthstone - not so much past couple months but have 700ish hrs still, can stop playing for a few months & jump back in easily enough. Also good to just jump in for 15 mins.
Sanctum / Orcs Must Die 2 - I crave tower defense games with an FPS touch to them every month or so and always go back to these games.
Portal 2 - Have beaten it about 7 times, is definitely a comfort game that just makes me so incredibly happy when playing. Never gets old.
Binding of Isaac (Rebirth)
Don't Starve / all the DLC
Stardew Valley - As of recently, but can see myself coming back to this fairly often. Games like these always have me playing them years later to catch up on everyone and check on my town.

Desktop Dungeons and Rogue Legacy...

Can't recommend this games enough. They're perfect for both casual and marathonic sessions.

Used to be Co-op focus game likes
ME3 MP, Dragon Age Inquisition Multiplayer, Payday 2, KF1/2, with exception of PVZ GW (haven't bought 2 yet)
But either I hit the end, bad update, or lack of players.

Right now it's probably AI War. Although I started to bore with it. I'm looking for TO-GO single player game right now, gonna check this thread often.

My top 5 would be:

  1. Minecraft (probably 4k hours+ ...do you know a way to check how much time you spent ingame or is that just an estimate?)
  2. League of Legends (~1800 hours)
  3. Rocket League (120 hours)
  4. Euro Truck Simulator 2 (49 hours, although I haven't played that alot lately)
  5. Stardew Valley (46 hours)

You think Stardew Valley is worth the price tag? I'm really on the fence about buying it

yeah I think it's absolutely worth the price !
I would've even payed up to 40€ for that game :P
but it always depends if you like the genre.. i heard alot of people say it's like harvest moon just better
although i haven't played harvest moon, that somehow convinced me and I bought the game :D
within the first three days after buying the game I already had about 20 hours playtime cause the game was just so addictive and it somehow reminded me a bit of my first time playing minecraft (pretty lost with all the items and possibilities but really fun to learn everything)
so if you saw some gameplay footage and you liked it, I'd definetly reccomend buying it! here is a review of the game I really liked :3

Everyone is SO GOOD at that game. Maybe it's cuz I'm so used to console FPS (like COD). I didn't know it was possible for people to be so good a FPS games on PC

Yeah, mouse and keyboard is a lot better for FPS games than a controller ever will be imo. There's a few people I've met that tried to play with a controller, but they usually got slaughtered. As for me, I'm okay, there's certainly people a lot better than me, but I'm probably above average at this point.

Yeah seems like it takes quite some time to get used to but I guess you can say that with most games lol

Rocket League

The Culling

Left 4 Dead 2

I would love to play Killing Floor and Dying Light, but no money for that now, hopefully in the future.

I've heard mixed things about the Culling, what's your take on it. Trying to see if it's worth getting cuz the premise of the game seems very interesting but not so sure how well it's executed

I love it, if you're into survival games you should totally grab it. I bought it for 4 CS GO keys here, so it's not that much. Devs update (bigger updates) this game once a week (sometimes every 2 weeks) and it also has hotfixes if needed. I really enjoy playing it, I've played like 200 games in it so far, won about 25. It's not that easy. Playing with a friend is also great, you will have a lot of fun together. I haven't tried to play it with anyone yet, but I see a lot of people playing together and I can bet they enjoy it fully.
