Modern Warfare 2. Even though it didn't "change my life" in any way, I spent a ton of time playing it. I still do.

The 'Myst' game series. The best fantasy puzzle games of all time.
It's too bad it ended, but all good things come to an end. The novels are a must read to learn more about Atrus and before the first game.
I'll play them through, back to back, and then not play them for 2-3 years, trying to forget all the clues, then play them again.

+1 to this, my brother and I spent hours poring over hand-drawn maps on graph paper and assorted theories/solutions in our notebooks. This, coupled with titles like Return to Zork and King's Quest, dominated my earliest gaming years.

Terranigma, it was the first game that really hooked me up. Before that, I basically had played only platformers, and for my age the game was a real challenge. I found the story amazing and I didn't stop playing untill I finished it.

Runescape back in 2004. I used to be a straight A student in a gifted program until I started playing games...now I barely made it into a 4-year college and am still procrastinating all the time even though I tried for 2 years to change my habits...

Just Cause 2. I was interested in the game, and one day, I discovered that there was a demo on Steam. Created an account, downloaded the demo and loved it. A few weeks later, Just Cause 2 was on a sale 75% off. I didn't hesitate much, and bought it. Without Just Cause 2, I would never have discovered Steam, and without Steam I wouldn't have discovered Steamgifts. And that's one thing I definitely wouldn't want to have happened.

Baldur's Gate II.
This game alone had me spend countless hours on D&D and p&p roleplaying.

Portal. It was the first 'game' I had played, back in 2011, and through some other events after that, I find myself throwing hours and hours into programming, 3D modelling, traditional art, music, cinematography, and Steam.
