I stopped doing that. Long time ago. But now I feel like a ungrateful bastard commenting only if I have something special to say about the game. So... I started to say "thanks" on every single giveaway I join, because i'm grateful just for the opportunity. If I have the chance, I try to say something different, of course.
(Sorry for my bad english)

It's easier to type "thanks" instead of "fuck your bundled shovelware junk and clogging up the servers".
Potato, menarche.

Because your mother told you to say thank-you to people that do kind things for you - manners actually do matter in this world :-p
Think of it this way - when someone doesn't thank you for your act of kindness, do you want to do more of those acts or less? Less, right? When someone notices and says thanks, you want to do more of those acts, right? So take it from this mother - just post a thank-you - it may feel pointless in the grand scheme of things but to the person gifting a game, ALL those thank-you's DO feel great and they inspire that person to want to gift MOAR games. Fuckin' Nike the peep already :-p

I do it because I prefer it to just entering and not saying anything, yes it can become a bit repetitive but I feel like they did the Giveaway and I should thank someone for the chance. It's only fair.
I don't always say thanks though, if I enter though I will comment.

Possibly because the guidelines state:
We encourage users to write comments thanking the giveaway creator for their generosity, although this is not required.

That is encouragement, as in it's a recommendation on behalf of SteamGifts. It is not required, however, and users have no obligation to state as much. I'm actually curious to see when that was added; I wouldn't be surprised if it was added in after people already started doing that, just so that they have some leg to stand on if someone accuses them of spamming.

Then I have no reason to believe you. Your age on this site means little when it doesn't prevent you from lying. You may not be lying, but how do I know?

I try to always say thanks and I admit I used to paste the same comment under each giveaway and always read the describe of the giveaway...
Maybe I should do a little thanks and no paste my word...
"Thanks for the giveaway ;)
Have a nice day !!
"
I'm thanking the creator and whising him a good day.. what else can I do? He offert to win a game so my mum alway said "dis merci"and I said the same to my childs ;)
I make a giveaway and asked what is the last book you read? some answers, some only says thanks and other said nothing...
I will not used blacklist or whitelist for that ;)
(sorry for my english, I'm french... but reading is less harmfull that ear me ;) )

A thanks button would be civil enough... then again I would always comment on GAs with nice descriptions, users I've interacted with and region locked games too

I post some form of thank you in giveaways because it makes the voices in my head stop yelling...at least for awhile... ;)
...or, you know, just because it seems like a decent thing to do. Honestly, if someone wants to blacklist me because I'm being courteous, then so be it. When I win something, I even add another comment saying "Thanks for the game" after I mark it received. They must really hate that. :)

Why not?
This topic is about as creative as the "why haven't I won yet?!" topics...

I can't understand this kind of comment. I just say thanks if I won a giveaway.

Yeah thats right, how DARE them say thanks ! thats so egoist of them to do so ! we all know that they say it only because it will augment their chance to win, its totally logic, no one told you before that a super secret moderator is checking every comments in all giveaway to add a 5 % probability to win in more ? Now you know it...

I wonder if it's a ploy to manipulate people into thinking they are gentlemanly/lady-like.

Aside from really being happy about it, do you guys believe it will raise your chance or luck or something?
