This is not just a game. It is a story. A wonderful, emotion-playing, thought-provoking story.
The only reason I didn't cry was because my eyes dried up from a combination of looking at the screen too long, and a fan blowing on my laptop (to cool it) as well as my eyes.
I can say almost nothing about it without spoiling it. Those of you who have played it know what I'm talking about. But, I can say this:
You are doing yourself a disservice by not playing this. Your life is objectively worse. Get it and play it now. http://store.steampowered.com/app/206440/

It's getting so bad that I probably need a list to keep track of all the different lists for games to be played.
I enjoyed this game and recommend it, though take some of the hype with a grain of salt.

I remember saying "Look, most things that make people cry did nothing to me. I didn't cry during Mufasa's death, I didn't cry during Titanic's ending, and I think I won't cry when playing To The Moon".

I started crying 30 minutes into the game.

I won't lie, I've cried like a bitch and I never do that for games or movies :3

the sad thing is that it hasn't a happy ending, all you do is place fake memories on his head, his wife died, he still had a shitty life pretending to be his dead brother and his wife was never able to explain his love/emotion/thoughts to him, all you did was just sugarcoat his last moment, in reality nothing changed. That's quite sad :3

Edit: I'll add this cover, I just love it --> For river

Yea, this is pretty much what I thought as well. I mean for him it did end somehow well but River led a miserably life. Not only she was sick but all her life based on a promise her husband could not remember. And she tried so much for him to remember it (like all those bunnies) but he just could not remember it and she would never understand why it has been this way. And yet she supported him and loved him. River is more or less the tragic heroine of this story. Also the most emotional part for me was not the ending but the scene where Eva "deleted" River out of the school followed by his changed life.

No movie has made you cry? I remember I Am Sam wrecked me when that came out and I was only ten. Haven't attempted watching it again but I cried at the end of Big Fish after watching that just last year and I've seen that many times. One of my favourites. I'm not going to list all the movies that made me tear up. It would be far too long.

Heh... you'll be more than watery-eyed after ~After Story~ ... >.>
Don't cheat though, watch Clannad itself first, all the way through.

Having played To the Moon very shortly after it first was released, I can still say that it doesn't quite compare to Clannad. Or Air.

Umm :| I kinda got stuck at the very beginning with the...crow and graveyard(??) gate.... I should retry I guess. I don't even know how can a game "beat me" :D

Oh, right. That section is supposed to be deliberately mazelike. Moving back and forth actually causes the order of rooms to change. I just followed the crow whenever it moved, eventually I bumped into a new area. To be honest at that early point in the game I started to believe it was going to be a boring experience, but trust me, it gets waaaay better once you get past this introductory scene.

Heck, I've watched stuff that are considered tear-jerks such as Clannad: After Story, and no reaction. I don't think it's about being tough, I think I just can't cry. I feel sadness, but no tears. :(

I'm very easily moved, yet I didn't cry. I think the only 'game' that's ever made me cry is Narcissu (a free kinetic novel on Steam). I didn't have enough tears for that one.

Comment has been collapsed.

Waiiiit. That's free? And on Steam? I've heard good things about it, but never read a VN in my life, only watched a few VN-based animes. Do you think this is a good one for a new reader?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Personally, I would start with either RE: Prince of Nigeria or Sunrider (both free).
Narcissu's a minimalist kinetic novel, so you don't get to interact with the story - it's basically a book with a soundtrack and pictures.

But I think they're all good choices, as long as you know what to expect from them.

I feel like an emotionless bastard when playing horror games, I don't ever get scared and horror games are awful games when they're not even scary, sad games though are completely depending though, I don't really shed a tear normally, but some games are able to do that, the intro for The Last Of Us for example.

NO SPOILERS
At first I thought I'll cry at the game, this is why I waited for so long to play it (Sometimes emotional stuff can stuck with me for days)
It started out quite okay, with some random things (Platypus, rabbits)
Then while playing I realized what they meant by "To the Moon" ... and I was done.
Then when the full story of the past clicked in I was just devastated. sobs
.
Kind of started out as a short-y run for an achievement and a 100% game, but it turned out to a memory that'll probably stuck with me for years, if not decades.

I didn't cry when I played the game. It wasn't until a day or two later when listening to my music library on random & Everything's Alright started to play that I cried because I finally understood the meaning of the song.

The thought of crying is the reason I continue to avoid playing this game. I haven't cried in 15 years. At this point, if a video game makes me cry, I think I'm going to have to throw myself in front of a bus.

I didn't really think much about this game at the start, until the later part when they explained why there were so many of THAT in the lighthouse (you know what I'm talking about). After that it's a roller coaster of emotions all the way.

Damn it, you had to remind me of it

I watched a gameplay of this game some months ago and I cried.
I finished to play the game yesterday and I cried even more.

As a game, well... controls annoying me a bit, and all you do is moving from one place to another. You can only do what the game wants you to do, and, at most ,you can miss some dialogs if you don't explore everything. But as a story, for me it is just perfect. It has the accurate measure of comedy and drama. Not too cheesy, but not too comical to make you emotionally disconnect. I cried, but I laughted a lot too.
