There should be rules for games having achievements on the store?

Achievements should be well... achievements, when you don't have to do anything to get them what's the point...

People who think they are cool because they get a lot of such stupid achievements are stupid as hell. Everyone who tries to get achievements in normal games dont play these shitgames. There is no reason, no competition, no fun.

There should be a way, to remove/opt out those pesky achievements permanently - i'm not 12 anymore,
and lucky me @ 12 achievements weren't a thing, playing the game because it was good.

Sure, I play a game because it's good. But having sensible achievements don't hurt a good game, it is just a nice bonus.

Achievement hunting on PC was already meaningless because of tools like SAM. Now, it's even more meaningless because you can earn hundreds of achievements in minutes. Hopefully after greenlight is gone, these kind of games won't make it to the store anymore.

I used to like getting achievements on Steam, I mean I know you can use tools like SAM but I never have. All these cheap games should have had a cap on achievements years ago, and now developers are pushing trash games with the only draw being tons of achievements. Same thing with all the crap games being sold only for cards, and Steam has allowed it since it's still making them money.

Achievements should be personal, if it makes you feel better to add another 100% I'm all for it, everyone knows they are easy to get so what's the harm?

On the other hand, I do agree that the devs using it to cash on on easy money are abusing people who do like it. It was unique at first and a pretty cool way to edit and decorate your profile, I think it's gone a tad far now though. However if people are still enjoying it, then so be it! I don't understand people who collect games, people who idle free games for cards, rugby, opera....everyone has different tastes! :)

abusing people who do like it

Yup. And "Sakura" games are abusing people who like anime boobs. Match 3 games are abusing people who like to play match 3 games. And Hunnie pop is abusing both groups mentioned above.

Two words: "Free market". If people want to buy achievements - sooner or later somebody will start to sell them. I don't get how is that abusing anybody.

Depends on the definition of abusing ;)

Some "devs" are abusing the achievement system to sell their trash, and Valve is letting it happen.
They should care about this, in my opinion.

I would say that indie creators are "abusing" rpg-maker, other cheap game making engines and unity. I don't have problem with achievements (thats optional feature) but I have problem with poorly made, unpolished games that are flooding steam via greenlight (and their only selling point is that fact that they have cards).

If achievements served any real purpose, yeah, limits would matter, but they are completely pointless, if you care about them, and want to brag to other who care, great for you, but, those same people would be unimpressed by something like this anyway, so it still wouldn't matter.

I don't know why anyone cares even for bragging rights with such a ridiculous percentage of achievements just being, you played the game achievements, I just can't care lol An achievement for beating the game is good, but achievements for beating every level, or even worse, just the damn tutorial, that's not an "achievement" it's the minimum necessary level of play to play the main part of the game.

Why doesn't steam just open a "Profile customization thumbnails" store and allow these devs to sell this as an icon pack there instead of having it sold as a "game"? Just pay the price they're asking and get the icons - that's obviously the only reason anyone would buy this. Same could be done with trading cards - Just allow people to sell trading cards that can make badges without having games attached to them. Would solve a lot of the "too many crap games" problem I think.

No point in doing so. I don't think achievements are all that much but more importantly they only have meaning as it relates to the game so other games have different standard for time and effort makes no difference whatsoever.

They are meaningless and useless.
Why would you care about achievements... and even care enough to complain about it?
How does a game having 10000 achievements or achievements that auto-unlock affect you?
If you play it you can ignore it, and if you don't more so.

Because it's a good idea. The achievement system used to be good, games made good use of them. It just adds to the game experience.
But not anymore, apparently.

There are still games that have "usefull" achievements. Like payday the heist - just try to unlock them with friends and have fun while doing so.
The fact that there is shitload of cheap useless garbage achievements doesn't mean that other lost their value.
Just stop paying attention to what numbers are on steam profiles of other users. Those numbers mean nothing since SAM anyway xD

It's most likely a marketing strategy. Some people will buy games like these only to increase their (meaningless) achievement count.
This way it doesn't matter if your game is shit, it will sell to a certain degree anyway. :)

Wondering why people would support that? So do I... Even more I wonder how these games get greenlit.

Exactly, it's just exploiting achievements as a selling proposition.

People are asking for achievements and for cards under every second game for years, so not much new about it.

Everytime I see a bunch of people buying a game I assume it's either on sale for cheap or it has a crap ton of achievements. Now I know why I keep seeing people buy this one lol

I am not sure what is more sad that this game has over 4,000 or someone took the time to make that many.

Pretty sure they didn't "waste" any time making their crap achievements. Probably just some simple program that generates them automatically, exploiting the system.

I am sure I know that nobody actually took the time to make each one.My post was not meant to be taken serious. Why do so many feel the need to take everything serious on the internet and then take the time to try and correct them.

Yes I have done that and still had people ignore it just to try and be right and correct someone. Then when you point out the indicator of why it was not a serious post they still fall back on "Poe's Law"

What is the point of making a joke or being sarcastic if you have to point it out all the time.If people where not so bent on trying to correct people for no reason at all but other then to think they are wrong you want to set them right we would not need such a law all the time.Who would take any part of this thread serious?A game that is terrible with terrible achievements.

Some would, believe me. I agree with you, you think it's obvious, I think it's obvious, but no matter what, someone will always disagree.
Even if it's just being contrarian out of principle, or spite. Or just trolling.
You probably can't find any arbitrary proposal, no matter how insane it is, and nonetheless some people will argue in favor of it. Yeah, it's madness, but that's how it is.

Fair enough I am just saying if you do it or not there always someone who will take it wrong and worse some who like to try hide behind it just a "joke" to be racist or other wise an idiot.

I also have dry humour which does not translate well offline let alone online. It can be fun but a pain at the same time but it is who I am.It works great for playing jokes not so great with emotional situations since I am not one to show a lot emotion through expressions and such.I get a lot that I do not care just because I do how have a huge emotional reaction to something. So yeah no matter what I do someone always takes it the wrong way lol.

I try not let it get to me but sometimes I get a bit annoyed at people trying to correct me when I was not being serious but due to my lack of indicator it can be taken sometimes as being serious.I try my best to make it not to be taken serious but I usually fail on that end.

So I am sorry that replied the way I did since I just assumed nobody would take this thread or any replies serious giving the context of the topic.

Now you're getting achievements for bottles, not for jumps. It was added because some people just used an autoclicker to play.

100 achievements just for beginning the game
And 5294 more beyond that. Don't know why that isn't a number rounded to the hundreds, developer must suck too much at copy&pasting stuff.
