March 4: National Pound Cake Day! AND MARCH IS ALSO NATIONAL PEANUT MONTH!

Was there a first time subscribers gimmick, like get one extra game or something?

I might be mistaken.

That was before. You could get one game humble chose from the previous month. Now you get one game from the new bundle early, even if you have subscribed before.

Oh. Not a big incentive then... weird that they decided this.

It's actually great. That only was useful for new subscribers, and hadn't help the old-timers to keep on going - they got nothing, they knew nothing. Now, after getting subscribers in the first few months, new-subscriber bonus is so negligible in numbers that they rather changed methods, and try to keep the already subscribed people by giving a sneak-peek about a game. It's a really good addition IMO, better to keep buyers than trying to get a few new.

Makes sense, but Legend of Grimrock II was also released early, so I see no big difference. It just seems they switched strategy to get new subscribers, to one that tries to keep the current subscribers and still get new subscribers if they want instantly that revealed game

I feel that the extra game could still improve their numbers, but them releasing early one of the games from the bundle is not bad.
But all things considered, the February bundle they announced Alien Isolation, and the rest of the games aren't so "big" in comparison but the bundle seems decent enough.

Tempting, $12 for Ark and then 5 freebies. :p Even better if my friends could be convinced to get it and we can play Ark together.

Hey, the hook is an MMO survival game. Two hits on the script I use that automatically marks games non-interested. I guess this decides the fate of this month's bundle too.
Still, it could have been worse from my point of view. It could have been some MMO zombie survival game. Out of the what, seven hundred on Steam?

Umm, you should try the new MMO zombie survival simulator game with retro graphics and RPG elements, with in-depth crafting system. It has cases as well, and drops cards!

Well then, it then just has one large aspect that makes me not care about it. :D I think I'll have my fill of empty storyless open-world crafting simulators when I eventually get Fallout 4, there is no room for another one. ^.^

Based on the enthusiastic reactions all around here, I cannot say you are wrong. I have my share of timekillers in the form of the Shadowruns, Wasteland 2, and FFXIII-3/VI I've yet to (re)play, so for the foreseeable future, a large game holds no real value of interest in my eyes.

In my opinion playing it singleplayer is kind of boring as well (I don't like multiplayer games). There is just no goal in the game, which (unless you're creative and think of cool stuff to build) kind of leaves you wandering about just doing nothing at all. There is just no feeling of accomplishing something for me.

Well this settles the issue then. I've got a HD 7850 and from what I've read, some people with the same graphic card could barely run the game.

Now, give me a Humble Monthly with Far Cry 4 and I would totally jump on that. :3

I think the cheapest Ark has ever been is like 17$?

So to get it for 12$, the other games are really just a bonus. I doubt they are anywhere good, since ARK is still a quite wanted game.

This 'early game' thing is actually going to result in my canceling my subscription for this month. If ARK is the big leading game and I already have it, I guess I'll skip this month. At least if next month's early game looks good I can buy in again and pay early for it.

I do still think the pay early to get a game early idea is a good one, it just means in my case I'll cancel for a month where I would've stayed subscribed if I hadn't known what the big-name game was.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, this is better than simply giving only new subscribers a game from the previous month. Too many existing subscribers felt ripped off by that, and so they had a lot more cancellations. Of course, it's kind of a trick, because then, they were giving us 7 total released games, whereas now, we're only getting 6 full games and 1 half thrown together piece of crap.

Permalink

Agreed, never cared for the previous month thing. And like I said, I do still think this idea is a good one, just so happened to lead to (at least) one less subscriber this month.

Already own ARK and even if I didn't, wouldn't get it. Last monthly was just worthless (to me at least). It seems to me that they throw in one popular high value game to get people to buy it and then throw in some lesser known games (which in itself is not too bad), that I'm just not interested in. At least make it so that from the early game you can kind of see what will be coming, not one high value game and the rest of much lower value / popularity.

According to some recent reviews on the game and some discussions on the forum the game got really unbalanced during the latest patches. so is it still worth it to get the bundle just for ARK as the only game you currently know?
But a bet on ARK + Transistor + Nuclear Throne + some other goodies is highly desirable.

Alien: Isolation wasn't added to the bundle list because of the monthly humble bundle. If that's why you are asking.

It was added because it was very cheap in one of the steam stores, thus the price was below or close to 5% of the US-Steam store price. In these cases a game becomes considered as bundled.

I just heard about it! I think it has been discussed in the discussion-thread for the february bundle.

But when you look at the rest of the games from these monthly bundles, then you can see that a lot of them aren't on the bundle list and if they are, then they were added previously to the monthly bundle.

At least for now, the HB monthly games don't seem to be added to the list!

My only disappointments are when I already have some of the games they put inside their Monthly Bundle, but really I like it, because most of the time you still profit more from 12$ bundle. Also I check it every time from isthereanydeal.com if the price of the bundle (12$) is less or more than actual game prices at their lowest value - still not disappointed.
Honestly I like all of their deals, but latest Focus Interactive 2 bundle was really a wtf, because you can buy those games they had for 45$ for less than 30$ and it makes that whole third tier completely useless, and I thought they made the best deals ever - apparently not always.

ARK is the bonus/early unlock lol

I can think of better ways to spend my money then on that garbage, and by the most recent negative reviews and the amount i would assume this is why it is cannon fodder for a bundle.

And the player base for it,mostly assholes and if that is not enough the cheats and all the other BS....

I will see what else is in the bundle when it is released and if there is anything i like i would see about getting the other games.Despite me not having much faith in the game..

Still thank you Rach for doing these and the work you put into them and the ways you come up with to keep things fresh and fun,and love the CV value and cost of bundle a bundles and so on.I read all you post even if i do not want to bundle, just to see what you say...

Anyhow thanks and take care have a great weekend :)

Hey, this got my attention: " Subscribe to Humble Monthly now for $12 and get ARK: Survival Evolved plus next month's bundle! " https://twitter.com/humble/status/696068351106248704

-Do this mean it's Ark + 6 games (not including their exclusive HB game?
-Are they going to do the same thing as last month? Where they did not said anything about AI being one of the 6 games from the bundle until the very end, screwing a bunch of people over who thought it was going to be AI + 6 games, AFTER not updating the website until the very end and hinting that AI was going to be an extra in the bundle but never saying it directly?

Don't look
1st Edit: Wrong formatting. I feel dumb
2nd Edit: Added quotation marks. I should not move from my corner.
3rd Edit: Rewording my words because i suck at doing the English.
4th Edit: Added a fancy foot note.
5th Edit: I keep breaking the format somehow. I really need to stop.

With the opinion of Teddy down here, i think it's better to just believe that it is going to be Ark + 5 games until the very end. Having expectations, in most cases, are a terrible idea; in this case it's a terrible idea.
Oh i hate it, and i love it at the same time ugh

No, I wouldn't read anything into that. They said from the beginning that the bundles were going to be 5 or 6 games, so don't assume that means that next month will be 7 total, including ARK. It could just as easily be ARK + 5 games, and it would still be correct.
