Arma 2. It's just terrible. The controls are way more complicated then they could have been, the graphics are not great (but it's not exactly a new game either, so I can live with that) and the voice acting is just horrible (I would say there is no acting in it, just voice).

Any of the Far Cry games. "Oh here comes the five millionth randomly spawning bad guy or animal or group of bad guys or animals to make it take longer for me to walk from point A to point B. Okay I guess I'm stopping, killing them, picking up everything. Okay moving another 20 yards. Oh hey, 5,000,001."
Any Final Fantasy game. "Oh you have how much further to go to get into that town? Ten steps? Oh I'm sure nothing is gonna happen, you won't get any random encounters in the next ten steps. Don't worry. This game knows that all you want to do is get back to the save point and RANDOMENCOUNTER!!!"

I missed the boat on the first one. Had the 2nd one on PC and PS3 also. It wasn't awful. Just very very monotonous. To me anyway.

The very first Far Cry was a boring techdemo that created an awesome-looking island and… that was it. It looked good, but since that is often enough for an FPS, people liked it. For that 6 hours they needed to reach the end, then most forgot it until Far Cry 3 was released.

FF12 didn't have random encounters, as I recall, so you're mostly arguing against traditional RPG mechanics, rather than against FF.
That being said, FF12 started fantastic, but turned into an aimless, mindless grindfest with 'perfect AI script settings' that made it so you never had to worry about managing your party ever again.. so yeah, not a game I can recommend, either. :P
But yeah, every time you play a random encounter based RPG after one that actually places the enemies out visually, you feel a bit.. underwhelmed by the whole process. :P

Lol, 12 was the one I actually liked! Along with 7 I guess. Yeah I think it is crazy how the whole random encounter started off as a limitation in what could be done in games and sort of evolved into a staple of an entire genre. I do like how in the FF3 remake they use little badguys that mark when the fight is gonna happen and you have to walk up and activate it. So much more fair. And while I said I liked 12 I will admit I never finished it and put nowhere near the amount of time into it that my brother did. But then again he's nuts. He spent over a hundred hours just playing Blitz Ball in whichever FF that was in.

That one was 10. ;) I like most FF games, but I agree that having the enemies on screen is much more enjoyable.
Also, I assume you mean mainstream ones? Some of the others don't use that sort of mechanic. If you haven't played Final Fantasy Tactics, for instance, that's a fantastic game.

I played the beginning of Far Cry 3, it seemed decent enough until I had to walk a long distance. I walked because the driving is shit, but then I was constantly getting attacked by animals and when that wasn't happening, I was being shot at by everyone. Even on easy I found myself having to heal very frequently. Not my idea of fun.

I'm actually playing through Watch Dogs at the moment and I am absolutely loving it! I know that they overhyped it which led to the complete let down but fortunately I was not on that train. If you look past the annoying antagonist then it really is a great game and I am now excited for the sequel

While watch dogs isn't as good as it was hyped, I think it's one of the good games out there.
Sure the character is bland and vehicles are kinda boring but the whole phone hacking/gadgetry is fun.
I like the look of Watch Dogs 2-I only wish it was less hipsterish.

I love Watch Dogs. If you let it, it gets very charming after a bit.

Haha. Yeah I read that review of yours. You really tore that game to shreds.

Yeah, this was bad. The game is uncomplete-able.
At least the trashy stuff like Railslave's Uriel's Chasm or Digital Homicides crap you could at least play them to finish!

My Steam review of Rhiannon: Curse of the Four Branches: http://steamcommunity.com/id/tupungato/recommended/298140/
I just finished this Welsh point-and-click adventure game. You find yourself in a desolate farmhouse in Wales and get to investigate strange ghost-demon related activity there. Let's begin with the fact that it was fun at some times and some of the puzzles were enjoyable. Some moments of the story, too. On the other hand, many of the puzzles were very typical (find a light bulb to enter an unlit room etc.), some of the puzzles were randomly stupid. Many of the parts of the storyline are boring and they feel really random and illogical.
The game was made in 2008, but it feels like 1997. Graphics is OK at times, but most of the time it feels like a high school project, same goes with animation (but there isn't much of that). Music is almost non existant and when it's there, it feels like MIDI made by a single person over a weekend...
Rhiannon was made by a three person development team with Wintermute - freeware amateur software for creating point-and-click games. I got it in a game bundle, but I wouldn't recommend paying more than $1 for this game.
Also, there are bugs. Sometimes inventory items disappear. Sometimes menu buttons (MAP) disappear. If you save afterwards, you'll never get them back. It is a known and never corrected issue.
To sum up: if you ever played a point-and-click adventure game, you probably won't enjoy Rhiannon. If you haven't, you may enjoy it. I wouldn't recommend it though.
GRAPHICS: 4/10
AUDIO: 3/10
GAMEPLAY: 3/10
STORY: 2/10

Mystery of Unicorn Castle: The Beastmaster
I tend to be really tolerant towards HOGs but this game crashes at times (mostly when checking the diary while you are in a puzzle), the hitbox is awfully small at times (I lost count of how many times I tried to cut that fucking chain), and it has a game-breaking bug at the end. Avoid it at all cost.
Honorable mention to Ferrum's Secrets - Where Is Grandpa?, which is so fugly I quitted after 5 minutes.

Ferrum's Secrets has some HILARIOUS moments later on thanks to the bad graphics. It was worth playing just for that. The gameplay itself is decent if nothing else. Far from the worst HOG. Glad you mentioned Unicorn Castle though, I had no idea it was buggy. =X

Trackmania Turbo on PC.
It's a game made for console and ported for pc because "they can". It's basically TM2 with less player, less features, less options, uplay drm, and worse graphic style.
Every game that is trying promote itself mainly by graphic and games with big promote campaign.
I'm very strange guy because the bigger promote campaign game have the less I want to play it.
That's why I will never even touch many games from Ubisoft, Blizzard [especially overrated Overwatch and WoW (quest grind mmo are worst kind of mmo games)] , EA, Activition.

Whats Under Your Blanket
although I got it for free, the game lost its novelty in less than 5 seconds

Skyrim.
Wait and buy the Legendary or you'll have to pay twice for the DLC's.

I only ever buy games I know I will enjoy so the title I'll say here is actually a DLC of a game I enjoyed immensely. Dunwall City Trials DLC from Dishonored. Seriously, don't buy it. It will totally ruin the fantastic Dishonored experience :'(

Thief 4 or Thiaf as they originally named it. Such a bad game :( Bugs, bugs and more bugs, audio issues and lackluster level design. Also bugs. Looked nice though.
That and Godus. How could the creator of Populous fail to understand what makes god games good? Godus is a travesty of a game, and most of the developers have left, so it's unlikely that it will ever be completed.

I think we had this conversation before or perhaps I did with someone else :D Ok, yes that's one game breaking bug that effects some users, but overall the game has few bugs otherwise (132h playtime, I can't believe I spend so much time on this game). Still not a great game though and I was a Thief fan before this game.

Elder Scrolls Online. It might just be as I hyped myself up for a true Elder Scrolls game but with my friends but I found it just lacking in game play. I'm not much of the MMO mechanics either which made it even worse. Strangely enough one of my friends loves it and still plays to this day

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare. Why? It's a broken piece of sh@t, with a lot of bugs, totally unbalanced classes, developers not giving a damn about the game so they pay players a few money to make new maps for them (in a contest), the only thing that the developers care about is to release new weapons and armors that cost money to buy and they also ask the players to do that too, the community is seriously toxic with everyone trying to kill teammates and kick vote each other, the admins in the servers love their power and try to show it by kicking you for every disagreement or for a simple mistake, the game isn't really made for archers but mostly for vanguards and knights because archers have been nerfed so much that they removed their skills and lowered their damage so that they are easy victims (also, most servers have an archer limit), and many more shitty things. So, just avoid this game.

Command and Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight, even if you got it for free you would still be ripped off. Thanks EA for killing one of my favourite game franchises.

what game would you warn them about? Like, a game you should never pay for, even if it's on sale, or out of curiousity.
