so today someone tried to scam me, i got a private message saying that he(the scammer) wanted to trade me, but his "trade account" could not send invites. so he gave me the link to the suppose trade account:
staemcomnunity.com/id/***
(notice the url is not from steam but staem, which by the way, i think makes it not against forum rules, but if it is please tell me and i will edit it out)

1st thing i noticed is that the site changed to Russian, still looks exactly like the steam profile page, but in Russian, and then i noticed i was "logged off", which i was sure i was not... that was the moment i remembered to check the link and noticed the staem and comnunity, i believe i am not the 1st one noticing this, but i have seen no info about this scam in the forums, and i think its important to let the community know about this kind of stuff to prevent future scams

the funny(and dangerous) thing is i have traded with this guy in the past and everything went smooth, gave him the +rep and all.. now, some months later this happens..

He either got his account stolen or he was fishing to take you out, which is unlikely because unless he had a grudge against you, why would he wait any amount of time to setup a scam towards you?

Anyways, it's not hard to see through these scams starting right at when they tell you to go to a link in the first place.

People have actually done it for starters, plus there's users from other countries who cannot understand our language very well. A lot of them just know there's a lot of links to puzzles and free games n'shit in the comments, so they'll click on the link. And boom, they just got phished on-accident.

If someone is dumb enough to use the link there's probably nothing we can do to help him. He must be getting scammed about 3 to 4 times on an average day

I'd remove most of that link, just in case. No need to post the whole thing with the id number intact. Someone is likely to try it just for kicks.

This may be the oldest scam in the book. This trick has been around longer than Steam has.

I'm not a big fan of logging into Steam through my browser. I just don't trust it all that much, I think the client is much safer.

Good thing for you that you noticed, OP, I'm sure some people might fall for such scam rather easily.

I would, but I trade too much to do that. Trade offers through the steam client are way too wonky. Using the browser is much more effective.

Remove the link, because http://www.steamgifts.com/forum/DjxxL/psa-phishing-links, just in case.

Old scam, these bots add you after you bump your thread on ST or Outpost, they steal accounts and use them as a phishing bot after.
