Would you be interested in a Steamdating website made by cg?
Ok, let's say that for reasons many are pointing out, the original idea isn't workable as stated. Is there any part of the idea that might be?
Say you set up a normal dating site front end, requiring normal registration, giving of information, authentication, and etc. to set up a profile. Say that part of the giving of personal info, along with answering questions and posting photos, was linking a Steam account (and possibly various other online gaming accounts--if the platform stands free from Steam, there's no reason why data collection should be limited to just that). Matches would then be generated, as I think is standard, from a pool of people of the right gender that fall within specified age and geographic ranges.
This seems to solve almost all the problems people are pointing out--at least to the extent that successful dating sites have solved those problems. But that still leaves the question I really think is interesting: what useful and interesting things could you do with all that gaming data? Is it the case that shared game enthusiasms are a good predictor of relationship success? Shared interests are helpful and enjoyable, of course; but are similarities that precise really momentous, or really minor? Which is a better predictor: shared life goals, shared housekeeping styles, or shared taste in RPGs? What algorithm would best match people based on gaming info? Would it use narrow categories, broad categories, categories orthogonal to those we normally use to classify our games? Can personality info be gleaned (not just from which games are played, but by patterns of time use, achievement unlocking, and so on)?
Those last seem like the interesting questions, to me anyway. The others people are discussing can be solved. In short, is there any significant advantage to be had from using a Steam profile in dating?

Using a steam profile in dating could be a birdge of some sort that would starts from a passion. I wouldnt go until using achievments and very specific datas from steam; my idea is that games could be some sort of possible hint stating "you may share the same habitus as this person"(or not).Like there actually are wives and husbands who share sports hobby and will watch all the football matches together, or will do footing every sunday morning. It could also be a way to think"this person tends to live in world of ideas, likes imaginary worlds, perhaps we can be compatible".
Or perhaps if you practice games more casually you would want to date someone as casually playing as you(or the opposite, you are not forced to look for something exactly matching).

I get the theory. I'm just not sure if it's actually a good way of finding good relationship prospects. (I'm not saying it isn't either. When I say "I don't know" I really mean that I don't know.)
Here's an example. (It's in terms of women as I'm a straight dude.) Say there are three women in my area I could date, Ann, Beth, and Cleo. These women could be the same or different than me in three ways: 1) they could have big picture goals for life that mesh with mine (kids, money, education, etc.), 2) they could have political views close to mine, 3) they could have video gaming hobbies close to mine (as you describe).
Now, let's say each girl has one and lacks the other two. Ann has (1), we're headed in the same direction; Beth has (2), she's my political soulmate; and Cleo has (3), we both love messing with Prison Architect. Which one am I most likely to have a successful relationship with?
This seems like an important question. If something other than (3) is more important for determining my odds of success, then I should look for that instead, and only look for (3) if I have to choose between people who have that other thing. And I don't know the answer to this question. (Though my gut tells me that (1) and probably (2) are more important than (3) along with a raft of other things...)

well there can always be a time where both people agree for a skype check(even if yes it could be someone else behind camera. Regarding the international part of the question, i felt that could also be an advantage. Maybe there are people also looking for some sort of adventure, exotism, new cultural values, etc.

I believe I've heard this is true on a lot of actual dating sites as well (the gender disparity part, I don't know about the fakery). Certainly women get contacted much more often than men do, especially if they're atractive. For women, at least up to a certain age, dating sites tend to be a seller's market, if you will. There's more demand than supply.

Maybe a kind of social network based on your Steam profile would be pretty nice. But a dating website? Meh...

Hello my idea is gonna look weird but i was wondering if cg had ever thought about a website using a part of SG code where people could date based on their steam accounts. There would be an account value entry(the same as the one needed to join Steamgifts) to limit the risks of abuse, but no real sort of contributor value.
Steamgifts can detect which game you have so we can imagine a system where you could look for people having same games as you for example, or a quizz where you write which are your favourite games/kindof games. This new website brother of SG and Strades could also be used to make new friends too. With millions of users from Steamgifts the possibilities would be numerous. Of course the system would have its limits as with all dating websites, but it would be an opportunity to date people who share the same hobby as you, video games. The staff would be the same as the one used for Steamgifts, and would be allowed to participate.
