No...
I absolutely love em!
I would add to the RTS names you mention others such as the almighty Starcraft, c&c red alert, and the rest of the c&c series. I played the heck out of c&c generals: zero hour, hence my nick.
I absolutely loved Starcraft. Plus playing it online was like another dimension. Add on top of that the community developed maps that were like multiplayer mini games. First game where I experienced that and the concept of tower defense which I also love ever since. Up to 6 players playing co-op tower defense. To my surprise, till this day haven't seen anything else that anywhere comes close to it. If there's a company that really looks after their games & community after launch it's gotta be Blizzard. Think decades after Starcraft had been released they were still pushing patches and the game was in world cyber games for years next to other top titles released much more recently.
btw did yall see those 8-bit series remake of Starcraft, C&C: Generals Zero Hour (I believe) and Warcraft? What did you think of it? Tempted to eventually get them!
Also in a slightly different strategy category also Pharaoh and the expansion Cleopatra - from the same creators of Caesar.
Other honorable mentions: Total Annihilation (Supreme Commander of the time), Tzar, Seven Kingdoms, Praetorians, Empire Hearth, Total War, Homeworld, Age of Wonders (per turns), Dawn of War, Risk, Stronghold and others which sadly I now forget :)
Would nearly be tempted to put in another different category, the Commandos series, which I think it applies no?
Anyway much <3 Thank for the thread!

Dawn of war is actually my favorite. I forgot a bunch games when I was wrinting this.
I was talking about Commandos with a friend today because of a game called shadow tatics that looks like the modern version of Commandos.
My brother had a old version of total annihilation but I never actually played.

Yea this is already enlarging a bit the time frame I guess.
oh I actually have seen that but didn't really pay attention, now actually looking at it looks really good. Thanks for the tip!
Yea I have TA in cd too, as a good few of the ones we mentioned. How times have changed! ^_^ I do enjoy looking at those cd's, something you don't get with the digital. Well, in case I would ever have no web access to download them I always have access to them.

Oh, how I miss the good ole days of getting together huge LAN parties to play C&C and AOE. We used to do this at the school I attending :3

How is the option "All of them" not an option? That's not very strategic!

Thank you for the giveaway.
Strategy games are my favorite genre. Back in college, my roommates and I would all play StarCraft in the same room (still logging in through Battle.net though since LAN was too complicated for some of us to figure out). There is something satisfying having someone yell at you in the room, "Atari, stop zergling rushing you bastard!"
Most recently, I replayed the Creeper World games and finished off Sorcerer King Rivals (like HoMM but easer).

Galactic Civilization, Galactic Civilization 2, Civilization 4, and Europa Universalis 4 are among my favourite games of all time.

If you played any of the old command and conquer games, CnC95, Red Alert 1, or their funky Dune 2000.
give this site a look, i've been playing CnC95 n Red Alert 1 vs other ppl online every other day now.

I am a big fan of Warhammer & Xcom but only play last stand & the campaigns.
This takes me back to the very 1st game like this I played back in the early two thousands called Full Spectrum Warrior, such a cool game and I remember being in total awe of the slick graphics back then lol.
Nice thread BTW L4stM.
Just checked your SG profile and have added you to my whitelist, such a lovely ratio you have. It is people like you who make SG great.
Peace.

The miss that day where Warcraft and Command & Conquer are big rivals.. and C&C is winning
There'll be no more days like that
Still I enjoyed westwood studios games more than blizzard
Generals, Red Alert they're really enjoyable RTS.. with some cliche & awkward real-people acts xD

If you have between 20-30 years like me, you probably played a bunch of strategy games. The early 90s was the golden age of the genre. Games like AoE, Warcraft, Warhammer, HoMM, Civ, etc would came out every year with big campaigns. Any 90s kid probably spent hundred of hours playing those titles and their scenarios (dota, asymmetrical 4x1s and TDs just to name a few) online.
I was talking to a friend that looking at the strategy tag on steam right now is just sad. A bunch of titles that although great have no resemblance to strategy at all, like the thousand of management/simulation games included. The real strategy games are old/hd remakes or new indie titles that could hit mainstream status.
With that said, in 2016 CIV 6 was the top game by revenue. Paradox got 5 games in the top 100 most sold game on steam. Starcraft and TW: Warhammer sold really well, AoE2HD had thousands of people playing every day and to top it all of, in 2017 for the first time in I don't even know how many year, 2 AAA RTS (DoW3/Halo Wars 2) will be released!
One of my new year's resolution is to play more strategy games and get more people to do the same. Therefore, I'll be doing some strategy games giveaways! I'm not sure for how long nor how many. Don't expect any CIV6 copies, I'm not that rich. xD
To start, here's a copy of one of my favorite games of all time. I spent countless hours playing this game.(I actually prefer the GOG + HD patch version instead of this HD remake on steam, but we're on steamgifts and no GOGgifts yet).
I'd also like to find more people to play those games. If you want to play more of those kind of games, let's get together to do some multiplayer matches! (should I put this thread on the let's play together category?)
Ok, after some encouragement, I've decided to create a group focused on strategy games, so we can play together, share news and create GAs for strategy games. Tell me if you want an invite!
LVL 1 - HoMM 3 HD
TL,DR: Strategy games GAs! 1 GA/month. January GA ending in less than a week. Let's see if we can break a 1000 entries for a strategy game!
