I was in restaurant, at the table next to mine there were two guys sitting, drinking beer and discussing stuff. They went outside to smoke a cigarette and one of them left his wallet at the table. I grabbed the wallet, see money, credit cards, ID, driver's licence etc inside. I don't really need any money, so I just poured gasoline over the wallet and everything inside and set it on fire. It is fine thou. I would never steal, scam or do something againts my morals or something else that's illegal. But if the wallet owner didn't ewant me to take all his money and all personal documents he shouldn't have left the wallet at the table. ¯\(ツ)/¯

I was walking down the park. Then I came across the unattended baby all alone in a pram, no parent in sight. So I took the baby. Then it started crying and I realized that I don't really want to have a baby, so I took a hatchet and first cut off it's limbs. Then I poured an acid into it's mouth. Then I took a spoon and picked it's eyes. Then I decapitated the baby with a saw, put all bloody fragments into trashbag and dumped it at the garbage dumpster. The whole "lolol it's not theft but I don't care anyway and why bother informing the seller before it causes trouble for them and I had a right to it and laws don't apply to me and I totally did nothing at all wrong because I never do anything wrong" is really what's making the replies so fervent.

Anyone with at least a month in Steam knows that keys already used are unusable, and to add insult to the injury, the guy deletes the game off his Library... Any other person with a bigger interest in the game would have wanted the game, but...

Luckilly in all the bad luck Auction creator already got informed about key theft by fellow SGers so he now at least is aware he cannot offer a working key in the action. If he feels like it he can now also pursue legal actions against the guy which should be pretty easy - they both live in EU and the guy admitted the crime publicly here ;)

Yes, they actually could, and knowing how thorough Valve can be, they may actually just hand over the account, despite you are trying to do it through a game added and deleted within an hour or so.

The owner could get this sorted via the publisher and/or Steam since they have proof of ownership in the form of the original game, plus this topic.

As noted, many casual gamers/non-gamers aren't aware that certain CD keys can be used for Steam activation. (Note, this is not a standard format steam key- pop open your Activate Your Product on Steam box in Steam and look at the different examples under the product code entry box.)

This isn't necessarily an intuitive matter, and any decent person would have educated rather than stole.
( In much the same way someone one explained how passwords worked to me, when I didn't understand the concept and left a game account vulnerable.
They could have taken advantage of that, and they didn't.

I remember how it was in development for like a decade? And when it came out, not many people could run it, the required specs were through the roof. Still, strangely, it is praised all over.
