I was bored so I went out walking. I happened to see a car with the keys in the ignition, so I hopped in and drove it around for a while. I didn't really want to keep the car, so I set it on fire and walked away. If the owner of the car didn't want me driving it, he shouldn't have left the keys in the car. ¯\(ツ)/¯

I was in restaurant, at the table next to mine there were two guys sitting, drinking beer and discussing stuff. They went outside to smoke a cigarette and one of them left his wallet at the table. I grabbed the wallet, see money, credit cards, ID, driver's licence etc inside. I don't really need any money, so I just poured gasoline over the wallet and everything inside and set it on fire. It is fine thou. I would never steal, scam or do something againts my morals or something else that's illegal. But if the wallet owner didn't ewant me to take all his money and all personal documents he shouldn't have left the wallet at the table. ¯\(ツ)/¯

In other words, he stole a key from that screenshot, then he tried to look good himself by deleting the game off his Library, but that made people even more upset, since the key is no longer usable, and one person who really would like the game stays without the game now.
I also could make an example myself, but... It's a bit too morbid to do it publicly, so I'll hold myself back.

There are small ones around here, if you wish to see...
"SGtools is a spyware tool"
"Some guy offers a torrent site to the winner of a giveaway"
The second is pretty amusing.

Oh, oh, got a better one!
I was walking down the park. Then I came across the unattended baby all alone in a pram, no parent in sight. So I took the baby. Then it started crying and I realized that I don't really want to have a baby, so I took a hatchet and first cut off it's limbs. Then I poured an acid into it's mouth. Then I took a spoon and picked it's eyes. Then I decapitated the baby with a saw, put all bloody fragments into trashbag and dumped it at the garbage dumpster. I would never do something againts my morals or something else that's illegal. But if the parents of the baby didn't want it butchered, tortured and killed they should guard it better. They are to blame, I'm just a normal casual human being.¯\(ツ)/¯

because saw gives you more satisfaction. baby has very fragile bones, so you would cut through it's neck with one clean swing. On the other hand using saw you can slowly tear into it's flesh little by little moving left and right - it give's you much better and long lasting fun than a single swing of a hatchet.

Either you are a doctor, or a serial killer.
I'll go with the first, to give you the benefit of the doubt.

You wrote my mind... So cruel.
But you are Level 10, so you have the privilege, right? :)
Comment has been collapsed.
not really what kind of privilege you mean. I've been suspended twice if that's what you think of, 2nd time being when I was level 10, so no - it doesn't give you any protection ;) But I tried not to be vulgar or offensive or anything, and I don't think creepy is against the rules ;) Just to be safe added NSFW tag ;)

Sigh I guess I have to add that I'm joking when making a joke.
Of course no one has privileges for being a higher level.
"It's just a prank, bro".
But thanks for the NSFW tag, now I'll get fired from my job for looking at your story, haha!
Edit: Oh, I forgot to say, the privilege I was referring is to make morbid stories without getting a suspension, that's why I held myself back, hehe.

I was walking on a street of a very big city, there was a skyscraper on my right. I've noticed that its owner left the doors open. So I quickly joined ISIS, went inside the skyscraper and exploded it to ashes, destroying everything inside. It's perfectly normal. I would never steal, scam or do something againts my morals or something else that's illegal. But if the owner didn't want their skyscraper to explode to ashes, then why did they leave the doors open? ¯(ツ)/¯

You can visit someone's Steam profile from the link in their SG profile :X

Maybe i understand your point... you might not have been aware that used the key, no one else could use it.
I'm not in your favor, just found it strange that people are judging you so much, and anyone could have tried to use key just out of curiosity, and no, that's not the same to see one thing and get in real life.
But it really was not a good idea to post a topic about it.

Trying it instead of informing the seller makes him an asshole and a thief, but nothing more.
The whole "lolol it's not theft but I don't care anyway and why bother informing the seller before it causes trouble for them and I had a right to it and laws don't apply to me and I totally did nothing at all wrong because I never do anything wrong" is really what's making the replies so fervent.
Add in the SG rule-breaking, VAC ban, and potentially being a massive bigot and all around ass, and there's no real reason to give them any leeway. :X

There is a show here in Bulgaria called "Gospodari na efira", or translated to "The bosses of the TV" I guess, so there was a clip where some gypsies were stealing bricks from an old demolished garages. So one of the gypsies said:
"No,no, we aren't stealing anything right now. We're just borrowing some, that's not a steal"
I guess that's the case here.
Comment has been collapsed.
Except the "borrowed" object cannot be returned back at all. Or that's what the guy wanted all along, make the damage, just for shit and giggles.
Anyone with at least a month in Steam knows that keys already used are unusable, and to add insult to the injury, the guy deletes the game off his Library... Any other person with a bigger interest in the game would have wanted the game, but...
Yeah... Now it's gone, forever.
No wonder why people is blacklisting him, preventing a future menace from doing something worse later.
Comment has been collapsed.
Borrowing implies giving it back at some point down the line.

I can't believe you come here trying to be funny about Stealing someone's game key which they were trying to sell and will now get a mark against their account when they finally sell the key and it's unuseable..
I wonder how many folks have blacklisted you now for your poor attempt at thinking you were special by doing what you've done.
EDIT: Couldn't be Happier!!! They got suspended, now who's laughin' xD
Comment has been collapsed.
he got suspended for different thing thou
Luckilly in all the bad luck Auction creator already got informed about key theft by fellow SGers so he now at least is aware he cannot offer a working key in the action. If he feels like it he can now also pursue legal actions against the guy which should be pretty easy - they both live in EU and the guy admitted the crime publicly here ;)
Comment has been collapsed.
Karma's a bitch, she'll always get you in the end lololololol

So i see 3 people suspended from this thread , anyone see more?
Comment has been collapsed.
Can't the owner of the key show proof of purchase and a photo of the key to "acquire" this guy's account though? Every registered license is tracked in a user's account so the owner can lie to Steam and tell them that whoever stole "his account" also removed the game.
Comment has been collapsed.
I can predict this guy will only be able to enter like 1 or 2 giveaways when his suspension ends. Kind of a scummish thing to do, you pretty much stole the game to be honest.
With that said, the seller should have covered up the CD key, most unfortunate
Comment has been collapsed.
As noted, many casual gamers/non-gamers aren't aware that certain CD keys can be used for Steam activation. (Note, this is not a standard format steam key- pop open your Activate Your Product on Steam box in Steam and look at the different examples under the product code entry box.)
This isn't necessarily an intuitive matter, and any decent person would have educated rather than stole.
( In much the same way someone one explained how passwords worked to me, when I didn't understand the concept and left a game account vulnerable.
They could have taken advantage of that, and they didn't.
See, that's what a good person does. )

I was looking on Ebay for the ad, I was going to send the person a friendly notice that someone sniped their key, but the URL was too long for me to type in and searching for it via ebay brought up no results for Prey either someone already told the person or this was an elaborate hoax...

The seller responded

It's kind of funny.. how do you report people from another country on the interwebs? I'm sure his local PD is really.. looking into things..
But uh, kudos for contacting the seller. It was just like what.. 4 dollars? But would be some headache if the auction ended and buyer was like, wtf bro key used?
Comment has been collapsed.
depends on countries. In this case - both seller and thief are EU citizens and there are laws about pursuing and trading information between police forces in EU countries. If seller was from EU and thief from outside reporting it would be pointless, but ad they are both from EU it's a different story ;)

The saddest part, Prey is a cool game. Should've gave it a chance.

But seeing the wording of the thread, none of that matters. It's obvious you just want people to think of you in a particular manner(or just at all). I'm sure you're glad we fed into it & took the time to comment, but please know...Many of us only do so because we pity you.

Asswipe. But i guess looking at that useename it's all you can expect.

Now a good way to keep your morality high contact the ebay seller and tell him sorry and the paypal link of the price to pay.
Comment has been collapsed.
i think people are overeacting to this... i mean prey came out on 2006 or so right? how many games came with a steam cd key then? i wouldnt have guessed that key was a steam one and so i would have just used it just to see if something happend.... i mean if OP knew i was a cd key he is completly wrong on having used it tho the seller is dumb it doesnt matter to the morality here but if he didnt knew i dont think he did something that bad... i mean knowing that prey keys from the old boxed copies work on steam is a something really cool to know to me

You can register a lot of older games on Steam thanks to their serial, list is here (Prey is one of them): https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

It doesn't help that it seems he was searching for the game, even though he claims to have no interest in it. He's also a trader, so maybe he does this often to get keys to trade?
(This is all just speculation though.)

Ok, if you say so. Then if an old lady would forget a really old bag near me, then she's stupid and I should steal it? :B
Comment has been collapsed.
the old lady is dumb i feel bad for using that word with an old lady and so its the seller but as i said on the comment that has nothing to do with the morality of stealing the key/purse
