Ref link, it is.

Anyhow thanks for ga.

Ah. That's what I get for not clicking it.

Is it really considered a ref link? I didn't know that just posting a store link was a referral, well I haven't clicked either and it doesn't look like it has a user code so he gets some kind of benefit of people clicking on it.

Please clarify so I learn better the rules.

And give him the clicks he's after? No thanks, but thanks to all of you who clarified that it is a ref link after all, which is forbidden

He only gets paid if anybody uses his link to actually buy anything from there

Ok! Thanks for clarifying, I will check for myself if it's against the rules, I don't know if it's worth reporting since the user is already suspended

If he is already suspended can he make good on this GA?

Permalink

I think he can, worst case scenario he gets unsuspended in a couple of days.

He tried to disguise his ref link by picking something that sounded a bit legit - but it is still absolutely a ref link. Which I'm guessing is why the user is suspended. But maybe it was for something else.

Also, there aren't any Witcher 3 Steam keys as far as I know. You can buy it on Steam or buy a Steam gift on Steam or you can buy a GOG key from elsewhere.

By the way, I'm not calling out the guy saying he is gifting a Witcher 3 Steam key and posting his ref link. I have faith that people are fundamentally good and that this giveaway will somehow end well. I'm just stating the facts as a I understand them. People are more than welcome to correct me if I'm in error.

There's no rule that says a person has to thank a giveaway creator. There's also no rule that says a person cannot join a giveaway when said person just reported the guy for a minor rule infraction but, just out of curiosity, if your report (or that of another person reporting and entering) were, hypothetically-speaking, the one to get the giveaway creator suspended and you somehow managed to win his giveaway, wouldn't that be a little uncomfortable for you? I'm just wondering, is all :)

Yeah, I saw his wishlist a few hours ago and I know what you're implying. Still, he openly says that he's giving away a Witcher III key and a CS:GO key (and in both cases says he has extras to sell). That he doesn't have the former game activated on his account doesn't necessarily means that he doesn't have a copy or two in his inventory, or a GOG version (for himself), or a bunch of keys of the game that are unactivated. (I, myself, have games that I haven't removed from my wishlist, despite having unactivated copies of them, due to procrastination.) In any case, the CS:GO giveaway is over and the result of the winner's actions will likely determine the nature of this giveaway as well.

I've given away games I had no interest in playing myself. Well, the fact I have copies of Perimeter and Age of Empires 3 is more the fact I misclicked and bought myself non-gift copies to begin with, but that's besides the point. x3

Wait, Steam KEY? I'm pretty sure Witcher 3 is like GTA5, keys are only for the dev's platform (in this case GoG) and steam is only gifts.

That is so true why do people check to see if they own the game or have it in the inventory as the only means of it is real or fake?
They could have inventory set to friends only or just for them.Like GTA V you could have a social club key,but if you want to do a GA here it has to be Steam,so they may have a social club key themselves.

i also make a wish list for SG so i can look for games i want to win most on my wishlist, sometimes i hang onto keys to see if i can win it,then GA the one i have.

But yeah there is no steam key itself but maybe creator meant a steam copy either way we will see

Thanks for the giveaway. However, referral links aren't allowed here so you should probably remove it before a moderator sees it and suspends you. This is what the Guidelines say about the matter:

Referral links are not allowed in the community, and if you choose to post a link, please be sure all referral codes have been removed.

You should also make sure to read the FAQ, too.

On a tangent, I have to wonder at some people. I'm not naming anyone particular but generally denouncing the "stone-him-to-death" mentality of some people who ought to know better. I mean, think about it: despite the fact that this guy registered only 3 days ago (and thus doesn't have a good grasp of the rules, not that I'm excusing that) and hasn't won a single giveaway he's already made two giveaways, including for a 60-point giveaway for a high-quality game that was released less than a week ago! So, instead of informing on him for a very minor infraction, why not give this guy some helpful guidance instead? Instead of itching to get him suspended, why not kindly explain his mistake to him and make him feel welcome and hospitable (especially given his generosity)?

This sort of negative behavior is what causes generous people to permanently leave SteamGifts.

While I don't necessarily disagree with your sentiments, I will say that the whole "stone-him-to-death" thing happens precisely because of the following:

  • The policies and systems set in place here don't do their job adequately to better insure the integrity of giveaways
  • The staff doesn't really care about the first point above and they simply fall back to a 'just shut up and report it' mentality, which is a cop out and a joke (see next point)
  • The guidelines and rules lose their efficacy when it takes months for anyone to even look at a user report (if ever), and even then the 'punishments' here amount to little more than a slap on the wrist. This renders those things meaningless.

So it's because of the failure of the system here to do what it is supposed to or should.

Sorry, but...

  1. Losing a GA slot permanently for taking away other people's virtual Ps, when you only have a few slots to begin with is hardly a slap in the wrist. But perhaps you feel a permaban for someone who did a one-time mistake (that might be an honest mistake, not a smart-ass one) is more fitting?
Because it's not like there haven't been hundreds of users that have infringed a rule or even a few rules, learnt from their mistakes and improved to go on and do right by the community, right?
And no, not speaking from first person experience as far as rule-breaking goes, to this date, at least... but i've seen countless reformed users have the courage to own up to their previous mistakes publicly here on the forums, so...

  2. The staff does care and does work efficiently (imo, anyway), but as everywhere else internet-wise, there are always people who presume to know better, do better and such and such. Never any of those people volunteer for anything other than public stonings, though.
Instead of sugesting that the only way to make the system better is to break a rule that exists for good reason, as proven by the countless instances of calling out that basically were proven to be a witch hunt, as the hunted gifter did follow through, but also expressed his dismay and unwillingness to EVER gift another damn thing on SG again, care to make any non rule-breaking suggestions? Especially rules that make all the sense in the world...
Would really love to know what standards you're trying to hold SG's support to though, as well... given the free nature of the service they provide. Just 2 simple hours ago heard a friend talk about his lovely conversation with an automated reply from Steam Support, that was very, very prompt and steadfast to reach him. Heck, only took them 5 weeks to solve nothing and tell him nothing other than some random vagueness and that "should he have further doubts, he should contact them again and wait for a possible reply". Awesome. This by a paid billionaire company.

  3. It would take a lot less for support to get to a report, if support wasn't bombarded with all sorts of reports for all sorts of childish reasons that do nothing but waste their time that could otherwise be spent on meaningful reports. I know this for a fact, given the last thread that was posted by either bobofatt or jatan (if i'm not mistaken, could've have been someone else) suggesting that people take a look at their old reports and see if they're worth keeping or closing by themselves that opened them. Take a wild guess... a very high percentage of people closed reports that they now knew better than to have opened them to begin with.

Last, but not least, even if 1, 2 and 3 were all wrong, two wrongs don't make a right, so people excusing themselves by willingly breaking the calling out rule, because it's justified and such and such, really doesn't excuse it at all.

As a sidenote, i never really understood why some people join a free site wherever on the internet, implicitly agree to the rules upon joining, but still move on to later criticize it, because they feel it's lacking in providing them with a better free of charge service.
Maybe those people could employ their energy coming up with a better alternative themselves, since they're obviously so apt and qualified? Just a thought...

Sadly, i've seen worse:

Quite recently, not knowing the specific rule that forbade a GA creator of making special rules upon creation of a GA, unless having gotten approval by support first, i saw a user give away (legitimately - wasn't fake) a fresh out of the store AAA expensive and highly wanted game and ask that people agree to a couple of things if they were to enter.

Obviously, cue in the stoning...

User replied to first stone cast saying that he was unaware and therefore wouldn't force people, merely ask.

Cue in second wave of stoning with comments that were even as low as "i'm entering because i can, and i don't care that you merely ask and such and such..."

SG's community overall community is great (imo). I've met incredibly generous people with incredible other virtues.
There is a very, very, very sad minority here as well though. But this is the internet, one should expect it by now. No such thing as utopia. :/

Erm, there is no such thing as Witcher 3 Steam key, the retail edition (and all other non-Steam-bought editions) activates on GoG. Sorry for hijacking your post, but this would just fall in 3rd or 4th page of comments.
