im starting to see a pattern 🕵️‍♀️
the community does seem to want these ones, ESPECIALLY rimworld.

i barely knew of this games existence but it seems to have piqued the interest of many for some time now!
out of the ones you've listed, what would you want to win the most?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

For me it would likely be either BG3 or Rimworld, I have friends who have BG3 and I've tried it using their computers and its pretty fun. As for Rimworld, well, it's Rimworld, it's slowly been getting more popular and for good reason, it looks genuinely fun. It would probably be best to do a Rimworld giveaway since there are no (to my knowledge) low level Rimworld giveaways active, and everyone seems to want it.

its nice you got to play the game on their computers, bg3 is cracked in all aspects, cant believe such quality exists.

i should learn more about rimworld for fun. considering giving it away before winter sale ends since i have a good amount of leftover funds and wont need to buy much more to afford it.

Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast

I know I'm late to the party but I just now noticed this thread, and if there's one game that I dream of seeing a giveaway for it's that one since it's been removed from Steam so long ago. I really hope Sega re-releases any version of Outrun 2 some day, it's a shame than that game was lost to time due to the Ferrari license expiring.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

welcome to the thread! better late than never lol

im sad to hear that its been removed from steam, breaks my heart when that happens or they get delisted. this is the first ive heard of Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast and it looks like such a gem. theres been occasional mentions of racing games (like blur) so this is a good addition to the pile. im going to hope alongside you that sega re-releases a version of it too so we can experience this game with you, it deserves the spotlight! :)

Sadly it's quite common to see racing games disappearing from digital stores a few years after release, and in most cases it's because the cars' licenses expired and publishers are either unable or uninterested in renewing them. So there's this kinda depressing graveyard of classics that can no longer be accessed through legal means.

If I'm remembering it correctly what happened to Outrun 2 and all of its versions (C2C was the title of the PS2/PC port) was that Sega could no longer renew the Ferrari license in the late 2000's because another publisher had snatched an exclusivity deal for a few years, so every Outrun game banished (including the 360/PS3 release that was quite new at the time). Later down the line in the second half of the 2010's some re-releases of Outrun 1 managed to show up but they never bothered to bring back Outrun 2, and considering that the first game in the series came out in the 80's and its proper sequel didn't show up until the 2000's who knows when if ever we're gonna get a third one, not to mention that apparently Sega gave up developing racing games in-house instead delegating those projects to Sumo Digital and other external studios.

Oh, and Blur is a bit of a tragedy in itself. A one of a kind game that got screwed by circumstance and got abandoned by its publisher when it failed to perform. I've never got a chance to play it but there's rather lengthy videos on youtube covering just how that project had some pretty bad luck.

huge bummer :(
there's such a charm to racing games and the ones actively enjoying them are always so passionate about it. theres a certain love for these games you cant get from a different genre.

i wish they brought it back. on the brighter side re-releases of outrun 1 is still better than nothing! the gap between the two releases is wild though. a third one should happen, what they built was something meant to last. im going to wish for the best with that considering what you mentioned with sega. id love to see your excitement of a third game being released!

itself. A one of a kind game that got screwed by circumstance and got abandoned by its publisher when it failed to perform.

a tale as old as time. going to watch some videos on blur like you did, i need to see just how tragic everything turned out but also learn more on the game. enjoyed this additional info, appreciated Axelflox!

About that gap between releases being wild. Being a Sega fan is a bit of a pain with how inconsistent they are as a company (except for the handful of series that make bank) even tho they're one of the largest publishers out there. A few weeks ago they finally announced a new Jet Set Radio game... after almost two decades since the last one, it took a high profile indie game (Bomb Rush Cyberfunk) in the same sub-genre made by fans of the originals for them to finally take the series out of the freezer because they now have some actual competition.
Thankfully in recent years they've been a lot more likely to just license their IP's to other companies when they can't be asked themselves to make new entries in a series, they love to do collections of old games, and they also tend to be very lax when it comes to allowing fangames, because otherwise a lot of classic series would be damned to be lost to time. And oh boy do they own a ludicrous amount of IP after merging with Sammy and Atlus.

i think that might be the LONGEST gap between releases im ever going to hear about, holy cow. props to bomb rush cyberfunk on being apart of making a new jet set radio game happen!

wonderful to know sega has been licensing the IPs to speed up the process and keep series alive.

and they also tend to be very lax when it comes to allowing fangames, because otherwise a lot of classic series would be damned to be lost to time.

thank goodness for that, i bet the fanmade games are great too. my curiosity on researching about sega has increased lol, adding that to my list 。.゚+ ⟵(。・u・)

Firewatch

All games I've been interested in playing for quite a while, but in over a year on SG, I don't think I've really seen many, if any, giveaways for them. (Apparently Hydrophobia has had over 2000 giveaways, but none that I've seen, so I'd guess they weren't recent or were group/invite-only.)

Probably, Shu Takumi (Ace Attorney's writer) left the main series after Apollo Justice because the series became something that he no longer wanted to write, and that's why he made The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles to write what he wanted.

I also recommend Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright, it was his last work writing Phoenix, and it's also a great crossover with another great series, Professor Layton :D

I'm sorry that you had an unpleasant experience with your first discussion. Not to be a Debbie Downer, but I honestly don't blame you for not wanting to do public giveaways now. I, too, am thinking about no longer doing public giveaways... due to auto-joiners. I'm not new to their presence, but it's almost like they've gotten worse since I last really made giveaways. It's disheartening. Anyway, I hope your future giveaways go well, and thank you for your generosity.

im relieved it got resolved quickly enough! was a wave of emotions but im glad it gave enough people a new shot at winning it despite everything. i keep hearing about auto-joiners and it seems to be getting worse? its not a fun thought :(

its unfortunate to hear you're also considering not doing public giveaways but its reasonable. you been on steamgifts for waayyyyyy longer than i have (which is super awesome to me) and how it impacts you must be on another level compared to most, seeing as you seen how this site has progressed overtime. i appreciate the thoughtful words and hope the best for your future giveaways as well 💜

I'm glad it worked out in the end. About auto-joiners... whilst I want to elaborate, I also want to avoid derailing your nice thread. Let's just say, I don't like seeing people be rewarded for rule breaking (there's enough of that that that goes on IRL), and wish there was more of a crackdown on them.

I didn't answer your question in my first comment, and you seem genuinely interested in what others are interested in, and would probably prefer an answer that's less generic than "stuff on my wishlist" - a few games that would really excite me are:

Blasphemous 2, Ripout, Stasis: Bone Totem, and the Dead Space remake.

for everyones sake id love for there to be an improved crackdown on that. people like Masafor have done so much in that regard and its honorable. i saw a couple times hes stated he got fed up from lack of handling with that and stopped though :c

im sure you've done a lot to try and help on that too alongside the other users! i have to view the threads on this subject more to keep up to date, specifically "Autojoin Suspensions".

Blasphemous 2, Ripout, Stasis: Bone Totem, and the Dead Space remake.

Statis: Bone Totem is a new find for me! ive seen a lot of underwater games across this site (dave the diver, barotrauma, abzu, beyond blue, and SOMA) with a couple exceptions but besides SOMA, this game is the same as a rare find to me with tons of compelling stuff i been craving :D

blasphemous 2 and dead space remake i have no comment on but i nod my head in understanding.
ripout is something id want to play with friends and would love the folks on here to check the game out!

its sweet you replied back with some games you'd like. i smiled when you bumped my thread the first time 😭

I loved the first Stasis, as well as Cayne, a F2P game set in the same world. It's awesome that they took the series from the depths of space, to the bottom of the ocean. Two very different, but also very much alike, places. Both are creepy as hell, and perfect settings for horror games.

Soma is a great game - one of my favorites. If you don't mind games that involve existentialism, I definitely recommend it.

My BF and I are really looking forward to eventually playing Ripout. It reminds us of the 1999 Jamie Lee Curtis film, Virus.

totally, a great blend of scenery! i got to get into statis alongside the other games like Cayne; for a free to play game it doesnt hold its punches with what im seeing that it offers. visually appealing and i can almost feel the chills of what its like to be playing either one.

If you don't mind games that involve existentialism, I definitely recommend it.

Things could change, but I think I too am done with public giveaways. Auto-joiners are definitely the majority of the problem, but there's other stuff too. I created 15 giveaways at once a couple days ago, and didn't get a thank you with 8 of them. The majority. Didn't bother me in the beginning, but after a few hundred instances, it's started to wear me down a little.

it feels weird not giving a thank you back, especially after receiving anything at all in general. its shocking to me that that many didnt end up giving you one :(

i know "thanks" or any variation of it is seen as annoying by some because they'd rather other, more personalized responses and how it spams their inbox and whatnot which i completely get, im not against that want or view. could be one of the reasons why you didnt receive one from maybe one of the winners at best.

Auto-joiners are definitely the majority of the problem

thats what i been hearing unfortunately. a couple users have informed me of this and ive seen threads a few years back on this same topic repeatedly when browsing, i havent been around for long enough to witness those discussions live besides the one current thread where the og/long term users gather to talk about this.

hurts to know that plenty are considering stopping or have stopped doing public giveaways though there is valid reasons to do so or to not.

Unfortunately, the one person who could fix the problem, is too busy not caring.

The last time I spoke up in a thread about winners not saying thank you... I got criticized and was told by an ungrateful winner that, "it's not a requirement." I responded with something like, "does common courtesy not exist where you're from?" I don't recall their retort, but it doesn't really matter anyway. To be fair, this was some years ago, but the exchange still stuck with me. I used to BL people who didn't say it, but now, I've gotten to the point where it just doesn't really bother me anymore, at least not when it comes to public giveaways, because there's just too many that share that one user's "it's not a requirement" sentiment.

theres many public giveaways ive seen where thats the case, even if they won a game most people would be jumping for joy over. its good that it doesnt bother you anymore for those specific ones, its out of our control and itd only keep taking a toll on you. makes me sad someone told you that though.

I actually don't think I'd buy those DLC's unless they were like 95% off or something. I hate it when they lock a cool weapon behind a paywall. You just shouldn't do that, especially when it's a shotgun in a FPS!

What's your dream giveaway?

no seriously, it can get actually so annoying to experience.

What's your dream giveaway?

was not expecting to get asked this or thought of that happening but now you got me thinking 🤔💭

after careful consideration, im going with: Werewolf: The Apocalypse - Earthblood
ive seen it a couple times given already which is how i discovered it! would be perfect for me, despite what the mixed reviews state. how sick wouldnt it be to play as a werewolf??? at least in my opinion!

Good choice. I love a fun & mindless hack and slash, especially ones with a AA budget that seem kinda schlocky. I have a real soft spot for stuff like that. And hey, I have a feeling that you'll get lucky and see a giveaway for it soon...

You're welcome, and good luck! I wanted you to stumble across it on your own, but at the same time I was worried that you might miss out on it for whatever reason, so I couldn't resist.

God of War or Spiderman Miles Morales that does not go to leechers or +1 collectors and are actually played.
Its probably the cynic in me but when I see a surge of fresh accounts right at the start of Xmas events, or at the other end, people with over 3000 games in their library just hoarding games and only get game time on them through card farming, it really pisses me off.
Granted I also have some unplayed wins from some years ago sitting in my backlog because they are shovelwares but I don't understand whats going on in their mind to winning a unbundled AAA game, redeem it and then leave it alone so nobody else could play it.

yeahhh... those are some actual high quality games that make an impact besides offering you their out-of-this-world experience. it shouldnt be wasted like that.

its such a pointless thing to do too?? like why bother obtaining, let alone launching a game at all if your intention isnt even to play it?

I don't understand whats going on in their mind to winning a unbundled AAA game, redeem it and then leave it alone so nobody else could play it.

some people are just... not considerate to phrase it lightly. its probably best to not understand them because it would be a lot of mental gymnastics lol

wishing you immense luck on the opportunity to get both of these, they would be put to outstanding use.

Thank you very much for those kind words.
And you are completly right, its pointless but the results speak sadly for them, since they join GA left and right just to get +1 while others only join for games they really want (which ofcourse lead to less wins for the second group).

So without any disadvantages the only conclusion is to leech life out of this site and its generous users (apart from manners and morality, but here on the internet those are VERY rare goods).

on a positive note at least theres some methods to prevent games going to the wrong kinds of users! like some of the groups on here or having the games be restricted to higher levels, things of that nature. while it may not be completely preventable theres still solutions that help in a big way. :D

I've got a few.

Both Fear & Hunger games. Not just because I'd like to win the sequel. They're cursed as fuck, and I want others to experience it all. If I had more money, I'd set up an event where the winners of said giveaways would post about their play time with it, so we can all read about their first experiences with big dick, mutant Anton Chigurh. Just for the lols.

A Short Hike, also. I already have my copy, but I want others to experience it.

Terraria's another one, just because it's one of my most favorite games. I want others to experience its glorious building, boss-bashing, and exploring.

first person to mention terraria!

thats so cute :) plus the game gets put on sales often! if theres any thats interested and able to purchase it they definitely should from the amount of content for free in there alone. some giveaways on that would be good!

such a genius idea 😭
if possible, you should put some money aside whenever to make this a reality. it would be an hilarious thread to check out! fully support this.

I'll probably give away something during Fear & Hunger's next sale, if I'm feeling alright enough to do an event. Four bucks per copy is a damn fine deal. Its sequel is equally wild, so that also needs to be a thing.

Maybe the dev will work something out with me, if there's not a sale around time I get my birthday money next year. Might be able to buy in bulk from Miro aka @happy_paintings on Twitter.

i dont know the half of it so getting to know from other peoples experiences would be absolutely hilarious.

sounds like you got that sorted! it'll be a blast to put together when you get to get around to it. the replies would make it even more so worth doing.
