Why is there a free game in a Humble Monthly ?

Actually I wasn't even talking about the F2P business model but the fact that the game has been given away for free simply for signing up to a newletter. In my opinion Humble Monthlies are rather expensive when compared to other Bundles so I'd prefer if they did not contain free games from Gleam promotions and stuff like that.

I signed up late so I didn't get my key from that promotion yet and can't tell first hand but in the thread it says
What you can get for free is:
Access to the game even before it's released.
Access after the game is released without spending $19.99.

Really nice one, just Mordheim: City of the Damned and The Flame in the Flood could have been early unlocks of other bundles. I almost bought The Escapists last sale and it's nice to get the DLCs with it, I wishlisted Hacknet just a few days ago.

Hmm, there is nothing in todays reveals wich really gives me the urge to play it. Mordheim looks like it could be worth a try tho. I like the setting.
Besides that Dragon's Dogma Alone was worth the price so everything else is just bonus anyway. At least that's how I see it.

BetaDwarf gave thousands and thousands of keys for Minion Masters away.. all you have to do was sign up to their site and you got a key that came with the game and premium DLC.

I am almost positive you won't get the premium DLC from that free key. They gave out keys to Forced Showdown in a similar fashion pre-launch and when the game came out you had to buy it even if you had a test-access or "Twitch giveaway" key. They have some discussions on their pricing policies and keys in their community hub for the game that cover it.
It is hard to tell what this key is actually for, especially with their weird descriptions of their pay model

Yeah, the descriptions are very unclear. The Humble key doesn't allow me to "Redeem on steam" though, since I already have that free key from BetaDwarf. So at least to Humble, they look the same ...

Can of course just gift the humble key to yourself and get it that way. I asked on the steam forums if one can redeem that in addition to the free one for the DLC.

I did the same. You actually don't have to gift it to yourself. I just clicked the "redeem on steam" button and it had a popup warning that I wouldn't be able to gift it. I hit OK and it gave me the key, which I used and got the premium upgrade.

Haha, yeah I found that out after I already mailed myself the gift link ;) Since the button was greyed out, I never thought to try it! Next time I'll know :)
