The biggest problem for homeless people is that they don't have a sustainable source of income. So to help them, I always make the suggestion that they get a job. Because of the poor conditions in which they live and how easy it is to develop hearing deficiencies, I usually say this quite loudly, so that they do not misunderstand me. I also say it with a scowl so that they do not approach me with the impression that I have a position to fill myself... would that I could :-\

Im not sure if youre being sarcastic or not. 1.) A chunk of homeless people have no interest in getting a typical job, thats just a fact. 2.) Jobs, depending on the area, are really hard to come by. Most jobs that are hiring in my area of which are few and far between mind you, crazy amounts of education and experience for entry level positions. 3.) While some places have charities or friendly businesses that will help set up a resume and let you borrow a suit/wash up, not every place does. and 4.) Related to 1, but a chunk of homeless people are in fact mentally unstable and frankly should be in a hospital.

Yes. And on top of that my sister is homeless. By her own choice, but homeless nonetheless.

I stopped helping homeless people. I use to give what I could, till one day I gave a lady I passed on my way home from work daily a 5er that I couldnt really afford to give but did anyway. Next day she proceeded to accost me because I couldn't give her any money. Also there is a group of people that dress up in rags and go about begging/ panhandling for money in my area. Just makes me sick.

I suppose I'd have to say yes, having been homeless myself for over a year. Anytime I helped anyone at the shelter I was at I helped a homeless person. I'll be homeless again come April so I suppose I'll be helping more homeless people yet again soon enough.

You just have to look in the right place. Is there a shelter in your city? The homeless tend to hang around the area near one, I know from experience. I thought there weren't any where I lived at either, then found out there were loads, they were just all in the same spot.

Yes, happens almost everyday. I live in Budapest and there are, unfortunately, alot of homeless and poor people here.
I usually give food, knowing that they will have food instead of buying other things for the money.
Some people "warn" me that some of the people are not homeless, they are just faking it. I don't care. If someone is sitting begging for money or food, they get my food. But okay, I'm not buying a fancy dinner for everyone, but I try to carry around some fruits to give away.

When I have a few nickels and dimes I'll just gibe them away. Some times a dollar or two. What really turns me off are "homeless" people who beg for more from you after you give them some. I gave away 3 dollars before when a guy asked for 2 and then he said it wasn't enough. I called him a greedy fuck and knocked the cup holding the change out of his hands

I lived in the UK for a couple of years, and there were plenty of homeless people there. Never helped with money, but I've often bought them a Big Mac meal or a cup of tea/coffee and sat down for a quick chat. Cost me close to nothing, but hopefully brought a bit of sunshine into their day :)

Apart from the odd bit of change, not really.
Having said that, there have been three occasions where I've been around a homeless person lying out in blazing sun, wearing way too many layers, face going purple. I went and bought a couple of bottles of water, got the guys up into some shade, and make sure they get hydrated. On two of the occasions, I basically had to bribe the guys with a couple of cigarettes to get them to cooperate....
But hells; sunstroke is no joke, and it'd hit me really hard if I was to ever know someone died near me when a simple act could have avoided it.

I would like to discuss about this. Have you ever tried to help homeless?
