I would like to discuss about this. Have you ever tried to help homeless?

Absolutely not.

They put themselves in that position, and I won't help them if they can't help themselves.

That's pretty harsh.

Where I live, homeless people are rude and intimidating. They sit next to cash machines, make comments if you ignore them, travel in groups, and just act unpleasant. They could try to get help from the government, but they choose to be on the streets. Doing drugs or avoiding a sketchy past no doubt.

Yes when I was a wee teenager. I had a stack of vouchers for free burgers, fries and coffees from McDonalds so I gave a bunch to this homeless guy. Saw him in there later on with a load of food around him :)

I have a good eye for real helpless homeless, not the kind that want the money to either go buy booze/drugs or are just giving the money to their boss (there are people who take homeless people and "rough" them up in order for them to get more money).

Well, I have an eye to spot real needy people, usually I help old ladies , either buy them food or give them what change I have. I also help old men, but there's something in their eyes that u can spot, a kind of pain.

I picked up a hitch hiker once. I had been visiting in Florida and was on my way back up to Georgia where I lived at the time. He was on his way further north and had been visiting his kids. Got in a fight with the daughters husband and was thrown out. Had spent everything he had to get down there to see his grand babies... At least this is what he told me while I was driving. So anyway I picked him up, took him to subway so he could eat (he looked like he'd been out in the weather for a few weeks) asked him to give his I.D. info to the person in Subway, just to be on the safe side, also gave them my full name and license plate number and got the store number. Told them (in front of him) that I'd call every hour until I had dropped him off. I know it sounds harsh but I wanted to be safe. Anyway drove him as far as Savannah, gave him some cash and wished him luck.

Also I volunteered at a soup kitchen for a little while if that counts.

I haven't but I know that my parents have. I remember one time I was walking with my family and this homeless guy is lying on a bench and he asks my dad for some money and my dad says no. The guy gets angry saying "LOOK YOU HAVE 4 KIDS HOW DO YOU NOT HAVE MONEY?" My dad said that's why he DOESN'T have money to give away. I don't feel sorry for people who get mad at you like that.

Technically. Back in highschool, there would be food-drives on Thanksgiving, so I would go door-to-door around my neighborhood to collect canned goods. Usually ended up with an excess of 100+ cans each year to give to the school.

Supposedly. But I'm not sure if any of them were actually homeless or not. I always give 'em benefit of the doubt. Might actually be helping someone.

One day i was casually walking home from my totally legitimate work at underground meth lab and noticed the homeless guy surrounded by the bunch of ninjas. Good thing that I had my jedi sword in my pocket so i defeated them rather quickly. It turned out that the guy was long-exiled king of Kentucky, and the ninjas were sent by the evil KFC-boss - Mecha-Colonel Sanders who wanted to rule that land all by himself. Being a man of honour I decided to help him to regain his throne which I did in an epic battle with one hundred and one KFC lieutenant at the KFC secret base in Falls of Ohio. True story, obviously.

I spent a lot of time hanging out with homless guys the last few years because my roommate worked at a shelter and we liked to cheer them up. I'm now very confident about these things:

  1. Never give them money, no matter what.
  2. Always know how to give directions to local shelters and places with free food (usually a shelter.) This is what you do instead of giving them money. If you feel nice, you can drive them there or walk with them there.
  3. Help them to feel useful, one way or another, if you want to go the extra mile.

tl;dr: Yeah, I doubt many will actually take this seriously since this topic is itself off-topic from the site. Oh well.

A Homeless Person is someone who wants to have a home by finding him/her self, don't go and destroy that dream!

I once helped a homeless person once, gave him the 3 dolars I had left and a few cigaretes. To repay me, he gave me his limo for my prom.
