The Dark Crystal (1982)
Romancing the Stone (1984)

The Sword in the Stone (1963)

If I were to pick, I would go with "The Picture of Dorian Gray" from the 1940s, based on the book "The Portrait of Dorian Gray." They made a more recent version that falls outside of the 2000s (just called "Dorian Gray"), but I didn't care for it as much. If I recall correctly, the 1940s version was the first movie to make use of color; however, it was limited to when the audience gets to see the portrait at the very end of the movie, while the rest was black and white.
Cheers!

Oh yep. I have to say, the first time I saw The Rocky Horror, I didn't quite understand why it had such a cult status... but the second time I watched it, I was like " damn, this is really good". Sure, Sarandon is great, buuuut... Tim Curry was fabulous. Eh, now I want to watch that movie again. :D

I'd Pick these movies as my favourite old movies:
John Carpenter's The Thing (1982)
Alien (1979)
Aliens (1986)
Predator (1987)
You might notice I like scifi. I think Predator is quite silly while still having awesome atmosphere. There's more, I bet, but these are the ones I can think of right of my head. So that should mean they're the best?

I kinda had PS4... it was my fiance's. So I used it, then he sold it. Cuz he only wanted to play RDR2 on it. Right now I own only PS3. Kinda silly. It's all dusty xd

Platoon, Saving Private Ryan and Shindler's List. Yes i love good war and war related movies. And Enemy at the Gates is very good too but that is from just after, 2001. And i could have said The Pianist too but that is from 2002 and the director is seemingly a bad person so i can not recommend it.

All these kinda feel topical for me haha Maybe if I'll manage to relax for a bit, I'll actually rewatch one of these.

Another one of my favorites is The Naked Gun
Hey, I loved the Naked Gun movies when I was a kid! :D I need to watch those again, loved that silly humor and Leslie Neilson. ^^
I'm a child of the 80s and I tend to prefer old stuff too... :o/ As far as movies go, these are some of my favs:
Alien (1979) & Aliens (1986) I'm a huge fan of the Alien quadrilogy and I simply cannot choose between the first two flicks
John Carpenter's The Thing (1982) one of my fav horror flicks, on par with the Alien movies
Clash of the Titans (1981) I hated the 2010 remake, full of CGI and soulless imo. I absolutely adore the Medusa scenes from the original
The Goonies (1985) who wouldn't want to find a pirate's treasure?
The Neverending Story (1984) I want a Falco too ;_;
Labyrinth (1986) this is one movie Hollywood better not try to remake... no one else can play Jareth the Goblin King but David Bowie
Zombi 2 (1979) love me some Lucio Fulci's movies
Evil Dead II (1987) love the Evil Dead trilogy but this one is my favorite of the lot
La cage aux folles 1 and 2 (1978, 1980) forget the Bird Cage remake with Robin Williams, this is the real deal ^^

Oh god, Leslie Nielsen.... How could I forget that legend...
One of my childhood memories is laughing my ass off to the scene in Airplane! when the dude jumps out of the control tower. I dont know why it made me laugh the most but it always amused me.... Naked Gun is just great..

Not much for old movies myself as Im only 26 Didn
t really experienced 90s as I was just a kid and never really watched classics.
Bunch of classics I would love to watch but haven`t gotten around to.. I am one of those heretics who enjoy visuals just as much as a good story so in most cases classics are subpar in quality department and I cant enjoy the story and acting that much. But that partly comes as I do video making as a hobby and horror movies and how they are made really enthuse me.. But I dont find older horror movies scary... While I dislike the generic approach of using jump scares the new horror movies are the ones I love most ...
But to the topic at hand - I`d probably have to mention Shawshank redemption for me, The godfather would be the oldest (but want to rewatch it), The Green Mile, Forrest Gump, Leon. I simply cant not mention Die Hard, Ace Venture (and other Jim Carrey movies), Predator (along with other Schwarzenegger classics), Mission Impossible movies.. So yeah, for older movies my taste is as generic as it goes :D

Felt the same about old movies for a long time before i watched The Sting (1973). Which made me realise no matter the decade there are pearls worth checking.

Thanks for the suggestion. Will put this in my watchlist and try to get around watching it and maybe other classics as well everyone seems to love

I have a medium sized collection of old Film Noir movies ranging from 1940s until 1960s (~50-75 movies)
and I like old Westerns from same era

Once Upon a Time in the West - Slow paced, epic cinematography, epic music.
2001 - See above :)
Solyaris - See above...I love the driving scene...mesmerizing.
Blade Runner - See above.
AI - See above, the project started in the 70s but wasn't finished until 2001...
Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind

The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988)
The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear (1991)
The Shawshank Redemption (1991)
Hot Shots! (1991)
Pretty much anything Lloyd Bridges or Leslie Nielson was in around that time also.

After rewatching some old movies this weekend I would like to ask: What is your favorite old movie? (1940's-2000) lets say.
One of my favorite movies growing up and that I rewatched was Stand By Me, with River Phoenix when he was a child. That movie is so real and brings out your emotions and keeps you gripped with happiness and sadness, and its just a roller coaster, but really holds a meaning to it. Another one of my favorites is The Naked Gun, a comedic detective spy movie that's always held a place in my heart. So the question stands, what is YOUR favorite old movie?
