Usually the reason why I would bl somebody recently is if they are exploiting free giveaways for CV hoarding (not hard to figure out who are those people when "suddenly" a tons of giveaway for that exact same game pops up when such promos are live)
This and people who are knowingly making misleading givwaways, and quite honestly those people should be kicked out permanently IMHO

I think a 2nd chance is fair. But if they still don't read the FAQ and commit an offense then strict action should be taken. A suspension for the first two offences. But if the user breaks another rule then he should be perma-banned because the user already got 3 chances and if they still can't go and read the FAQ then it's on them.
Thanks for the train.

Bump. As for the topic, I can see arguments of both sides, but in general, I agree with you, one mistake shouldn't be permanent. Maybe add atonement system (if you activate/gift all pending games, you get second chance?) to give deserving people another try?

Even if it sounds too mild to some people that the offenders will get away with a warning the first time, I have to say that the mistakes people do around here are because of the lack of common sense. I do agree with a harsh punishment on the second offense since the user has been warned the first time and "obligated" to read the rules "more carefully"

I do agree with You - we should always give another chance for such people. However, as someone mentioned that some quite long time ago here in the forums, it would be great to have some flashing red bar on the main page about reading the rules etc. so everyone could see the rules even easier and better.
Anyway, thanks for the whole train! :)

A friend of mine was banned from SG for 14 months cuz the winner of a private giveaway didnt redeem the code right away. Then the guy redeemed it a few days after the win and messaged support but the message didnt get seen for over a year. lol
I guess what I'm saying is.. Thanks for the train! bump

if it was like you say, i would have been perma-banned when i was new here. look at my profile and tell me that would have been the right thing to do.

Well, as one of threads about perma-bans was mine, I feel like I have to answer to this.
The main reason, that some people missed in my topic, was the idea that we can forgive every mistake (surprised?), but only after it was fixed. If someone did not activated won game - he should do this. If he traded away his prize - he should buy new one. If he did not do this - then he is not sorry, and if he is not sorry - he should not be forgiven. It's not a matter of hatred, but of justice. Simple as that.
And yes, I would blacklist you. Not because you not activated something back than, but because you still have not activated it NOW.

Yes, there is a tl;dr at the bottom if you don’t want to read this
Yes I realize this will likely land me in a few blacklists
And yes, there is a giveaway hidden in here
For the past month or so I have seen a massive rise in the number of threads calling for perma-banning of anyone who commits anything against the rules. It just seems like everyone is up in arms over this. I can understand people’s frustration over un-activated gifts, regifted ones, and general rule breaking, but not the rampant hate that seems to be streaming everywhere. I don’t know if there have been more people committing these in the past while, which would explain the rise in threads, or if people are just flaring up, since I have not had this problem for a while.
The point of all of this is that I have been on the other side, and made mistakes. I’ve used SG for almost 2 years and when I started out I didn’t read the rules. Because I was an idiot, I ended up getting banned for unactivated wins & regifting and was threatened with a perma-ban. This was more than a year ago. I served my time, have been giving back to the community, and am now working my way from level 4 to 5.
I can understand the anger and frustration at some of these people, and know that the site has grown a lot in the past 2 years so now bots are a lot more prevalent. But we still have users who will make the same mistakes I did. We still have people who might stupidly try to make a profit from this site before realizing how wonderful the community can be.
What I ask is that you don’t think of these people as evil that needs to be removed from the site immediately. Don’t blacklist someone just because they have an unactivated win from over a year ago. Don’t give in to hating someone for a mistake they made when they still didn’t understand SG.
tl;dr – While there are malicious users, there should not be blanket perma-banned for everyone who makes one mistake. Don’t hate people just because they were stupid. They might end up giving back a lot more than they ever could have taken in the first place.
