So, it turns out the next sale will have one game a day, where the price will be decreased by the number of your current Steam level (though I imagine that it would cap before someone hits L100 once that becomes possible).

So, if you are some little Level 5 user who has been selling all your cards, I hope you like 5% discounts on several titles, while those crazy people who bought every card they could will be getting 50% or more off.

They should do that, except the other way around. "You've got money to buy a bunch of cards that serve no particular purpose? Well then, you can afford to pay a bit more for your games!" :p

Now THAT would be stupid. It's bad business to alienate your core fanbase and biggest spenders.

I hope it goes without saying that that was a joke and not a serious suggestion.

I know it doesn't make any sense for them to do this but you seriously got me there. :)

Why wouldn't it make any sense? Don't stores often reward their best customers with perks like coupons, loyalty programs, secret sales, exclusive freebies, etc? Why should Valve be any different? And why shouldn't the most loyal and passionate fans of Steam and certain Steam games be rewarded?

True, but the whole system is still in beta and not every user has the access to it. Also, the number of games that support the trading card system is still quite small. Not to mention that the OP's idea seems too restricting and would actually reduce the whole number of sold games, which is exactly the opposite of what Valve and publishers want.

I think the best way to do something like this would be to leave the sales as they are, and just give some dedicated players additional percentage drops based off their level.

I do kind of agree that because it's still in beta and not that well advertised that it would be a bit unfair to do such a major promotion around it, although anyone that wants into the beta can get in.

Like I wrote in another post, I think the OP's idea, the way I read it, would actually increase sales. The way I read it is that there would be a fairly normal Steam summer sale, but each day there would be one game that would have a discount based on Steam level, so it potentially could be a really great discount for some people. seems to me like this would result in a similar number of sales in the rest of the summer sale, along with a few extra impulse buys from the select group of medium to high level Steam users.

Just my opinion, I know it's not happening, but yeah.. that'd be a really stupid way of doing things.
I don't feel I have to really explain it lol

If something is not self-evident, which this is not, then yes you do need to explain such an extreme stance.

Steam loses sales, loses money, creates an unhappy customer base where even the top users are still getting screwed ( as compared to previous deals ).

I personally thought that the stupidity was implied. Did you legitimately need an explanation of that?

Yes, because your "explanation" does not actually explain anything. If the Steam summer sale last year was exactly the same but each day, or even each week, it featured one game that was an especially low price for a select group of people, Steam would likely have gotten MORE sales, not less. They would have made their regular sales, plus gotten some impulse buys from the select group.

It might create some unhappiness in the user base, but hopefully most of the users would not be such entitled pricks and realize that this kind of situation is present in the offline world, and even in other online shops. People that spend more money and associate themselves with specific brands often get discounts or other special offers that casual consumers do not get.

I do not see how the "top users are still getting screwed" though.

I didn't care to explain because it's not going to happen, and I'm not here to have a debate about it. I just think it'd be highly stupid.

You know it's not going to happen? Obviously this was a joke post, but we have no idea that something similar won't happen. In fact it seems like quite a reasonable move.

There is no point in sharing your opinion if you are not going to back it up with reasoning. Otherwise your only appeal is to ethos, of which you have none. Thus, stating an opinion, especially a very extreme opinion, is pointless.

You're acting like what I said is a sin. I think it's stupid, leave it at that. If it's pointless then you have no need to reply in the first place.

While that is just a joke, I think there is bound to happen a meta game on the summer sale where the higher your level better the rewards.
