So I have been watching a lot of anime, and I have started to hit a brick wall. I don't really know what to watch, and I've already been through many of the top-ranked lists. So I thought that I would come to the wonderful people of SG for some help! Feel free to recommend some things, and a quick explanation of why people should watch it would be great!

I have a MAL list of all the things I have watched and what I rated them. Although it would be lovely to rewatch things I have already seen, it would be better to find new and exciting things to view.

Also I'm sure you all came in for the giveaways rather than out of the kindness of your heart. People who mention a show that I haven't watched and explain why I should watch it will be added to my whitelist. These lucky people will be allowed to join a bunch of bundle giveaways, and then will be promptly dropped from my whitelist after the giveaways finish. I might also be putting up an anime puzzle in here when I have the time, so even those who haven't watched anime but love to use their google-fu can enjoy.

Anyways, thank you for your assistance! Lets all enjoy anime together!

TLDR: Give me recommendations not on this list and explain why, I give you games and love.

EDIT: Wow, that was a large response. I'll try to get through everyone and respond to all of your posts, and then I'll whitelist everyone and create some giveaways. Check back in probably 5ish hours and I should have everything ready by then. Thanks for all of the support and recommendations!

EDIT2: After responding to four and a bit pages of recommendations, I need a break. I'll be back in an hour or so, hang tight. Giveaways should still be up when I said they would be, never fear.

EDIT3: Back for more commenting. Hopefully I can get to the bottom of this thread.

EDIT4: Finally made it to the bottom! I'll add everyone to my whitelist now and then post up the giveaways.

EDIT5: Whitelist giveaways are now up. They are all cheap bundle games, but I hope people still are interested.

Giveaway 2

EDIT6: Giveaways are over, and I'll be closing this thread. Thank you everyone for the suggestions!

Shaman King, because it's one of the best animes I have watched (and I watched it many times). It can't believe I didn't see it in your list!

Also, Arakawa Under the Bridge is a very enjoyable anime. It's really funny and I love the characters.

Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji looks decent, might wait until the OVA airs though.

Haikyuu!! has a second season announced, although we don't know when that will be. I'll probably hold off for now.

I'm currently watching Zankyou no Terror, it seems pretty good so far.

The other series are ongoing too. Once they are finished, then I will have to start (except Binan Koukou, it looks absolutely terrible)

Thanks for the suggestions

Binan might look terrible, my first reaction was "WTF is this?" too :D
But then I watched the first episode and laughed a lot, since it's kinda a parody to all these "magical girl" stuff :)
(I know that tastes are different, and it's still ongoing too, but I would recommend you to just watch the first episode, and decide then :)

Not bad considering I haven't rated the majority of my list.

Psycho Pass 2 : How can you rate the first one so high and haven't watched the second already? Don't watch any trailers for this or the movie before you finish it.
Yakitate Japan : This series can pull off so many episodes with the only subject being bread. Simply hilarious.
Gintama : Episodes might seem to be a lot but you can't go wrong with this one. You can put it on hold and restart at any point too.
Nodame Cantabile : Even if you are not into shoujo, I suggest you give it a shot, not only for the music but the main characters' combo is quite enjoyable.
Also, even if you are not into Sports anime, I'd recommend One Outs. Seems you enjoyed Death note and Code geass so I assume you liked the amount of mind games and calculating going on in them. One Outs is that applied in a series about baseball. Unexpectedly good and I am not into sports anime myself (maybe except this and Kuroko).

I didn't recommend any of the ongoing ones since from your Watching list, you seem to be waiting for things to end, in order to watch them. I am not here for any giveaway, also, so feel free to skip me. I just like checking MAL lists :P

Glad to see that we are so compatible :p Anyways...

Psycho Pass 2 is one I need to watch. It's superb, and you are the 6th one to recommend it I believe

Yakitate Japan looks interesting. I never knew they could make a series so long solely about bread. Will definitely watch.

Gintama is one I want to watch from start to finish. Whenever they finally stop airing episodes, then I will watch it.

Nodame Cantabile is one I downloaded then forgot to watch since my harddrive died. I will certainly be watching this one.

One Outs looks cool, I hadn't heard anything about it. (Also I should probably rewatch Code Geass and readjust my rating, it was one of the first things I watched and I'm sure it would get a lower rating now)

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll still whitelist you just in case you are interested in any of the giveaways, and if not then no harm done.

If you are interested in ongoing ones or particular genres, I could recommend some more. Those were just the ones that came to mind easily.

One outs, I tend to recommend since I almost never see it mentioned, yet everyone who watches it has nice things to say. It's a weird combination but it works well.

About Psycho Pass, just rewatched the first season since I recently received these, so now I guess I'll need to rewatch the second season waiting for the movie to come out ;_;

I do like ongoing ones, but I normally wait until they are finished. Makes my life difficult with all of the waiting.

As for particular genres, anything with GAR or economics. Other than that, I watch basically anything (although I do have a soft spot for parody).

I own those as well, purchased them when I saw them on sale from rightstuf. Such a good series, I watched the entire thing in a night.

Kyou kara Maou! - very good comedy with a good story and great characters;
Ghost Hunt - great series with a criminal and supernatural theme, sometimes a little sad, but highly recommended;

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is probably one of my favorite Anime.

It's mostly a Slice of Life anime, with bits of Fantasy, Sci Fi, and Action sprinkled in here and there.

The general plot of the Anime is that it follows a a boy, who's only known by the nickname Kyon, and a beyond eccentric girl, Haruhi Suzumiya. Suzumiya is a girl who isn't satisfied with her boring existence and is always on the search for the fantastical. Kyon discovers that there's more to Suzumiya than meets even her eyes, and he must try to keep her entertained or else face the end of our universe.

Again, it's one of my favorite Anime, so I can easily recommend it. The only Blemish on an otherwise fantastic series however, are the "Endless Eight" episodes in the second season, which are eight episodes that are nearly identical to each other >.>

If nothing else, I would recommend at the least the first six episodes of the anime, which are the adaptation of the first Haruhi Suzumiya Light Novel, and in my opinion are some of the best episodes of the Anime.

Are you interested in the Yu-Gi-Oh series? I'm watching the latest series Yu-Gi-Oh Arc-V now. And I'm really enjoying it and I think it's the best ever.
This may not make sense to you if you are not familiar with the previous series and game mechanics. But while previous series focused on only Fusion Summon, Synchro Summon, XYZ Summon, this time they built a plot around equally using all the summon mechanics along with the new Pendulum Summon by using Alternate Dimensions. And they have lots of subtle and direct references to the previous series too.

My favorite genre is the Action/Comedy combo. I LOVE IT!
My recommendations for you:

  • Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou (This is where the "Notice me, Senpai" thing came from)
  • Btooom!
  • Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken
  • Death Parade
  • Diamond no Ace
  • Kuroko no Basket
  • Yowamushi Pedal (If you like cycling)
  • Zankyou no Terror

Feel free to check out my list: http://myanimelist.net/animelist/gijsdj98 (We have a pretty high compatibility: 74.8%)

Akuma no Riddle seems ok, but not spectacular.

Bokura was recommended to me above, definitely will be watching it.

Btooooom! looks good, perhaps not the best but still fun.

Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken has a second season that hasn't aired yet. I'll probably wait for it to air.

Death Parade is also currently airing, but I will be watching it when it finishes. Same deal with Diamond no Ace, Koroko no Basket, and Yowamushi Pedal.

I'm also currently watching Zankyou no Terror. Once I'm done responding to everyone, then I'll get back to that.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll still whitelist you, just in case you want to enter the giveaways.

Akuma no Riddle seems ok, but not spectacular.

I wanted to like Akuma no Riddle so bad. The premise was interesting, but the execution was botched, and the last episode was one of the worst in recent memory. Pity, because it had a lot of potential.

There was one episode that was really good though. It played off Romeo and Juliet. I guess the only way to save the writing of that show is to rip off a better writer wholesale. :P

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I really wish that good premises would also become good series. Sadly it isn't the case.

Also is it worse than the last episode of Soul Eater, with the lamest way to beat a villain? I could go on about other series too, why does anime never have good endings???

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I've actually avoided Soul Eater for the sole (heh) reason that the ending is just going to leave me disappointed. So I can't say from experience which is worse. I would find it hard for it to be worse than Akuma no Riddle's ending though. It's basically one great handwave of "nothing that happened matters."

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The series is pretty great, and if you just stop watching from episode 35 (if memory serves) onwards then you skip the filler.

I won't spoil the ending of Soul Eater, but it uses the biggest/worst shounen cliche Deus ex Machina ever... Me and my friends still reference it to show our disappointment in things.

Wow, quite some list you got there, I don't get how you got time for that much anime. But here are some you, probably, haven't watched:

Hunter x Hunter (2011) (It's so much better than the original, so if you like that one you should watch the 2011 remake)

Black trigger (This is a kinda new anime, but it got a good story and some nice fighting scenes, it's just lame when the charcters change into "fighting state", which makes it childish. Great anime overall)

Problem Children Are Coming From Another World, Aren’t They? (Not sure if it got a shorter name in japanese, but good story, fighting and a lot of humor. It remindes me of No Game No Life but abit better)

Tokyo Ghoul (Someone already metioned this, but it's a must watch, good story, universe and epic powers, which leads to nice fighting scense + season 2 just started)

Well, I started 4-5 years ago (something like that, I don't remember exactly) and I watch it in my free time. I also fall asleep to it, so I guarantee that I watch at least 1 episode a day. It all adds up, especially if I get horribly sick and powerwatch 40+ episodes in a day.

Anyways, I found out in this thread that HxH 2011 was finished, so I will have to watch it.

World trigger looks good, I will be watching it when it finishes airing. Same with Tokyo Ghoul.

No problem :D

It had a promising premise but the anime wasn’t able to present its full potential. The whole thing felt disjointed with the shallow mind set of the show really bringing the experience down. It lacks even decent characters and also needs a more developed plot. If you enjoy cool animation with shallow plots then you’ll like this show. If you like cool fight scenes with shallow plots then you might want to check this one out. Bottom line, this show could’ve been better and it had every opportunity to do so. I enjoyed it from my side !

The Legend of Korra looks great, and I just found out that it is done airing. I will have to watch it. (I watched Avatar already)

Also, this should get you hyped to watch it. Whatever you do, don't watch Sentai's release. In addition to being, well, Sentai (and oh my God, that dub), licensing issues means that song had to be replaced...with the same song the Tetris song was based on. It completely ruins the mood.
