Hey all. I am going to start by saying that I do not have any more information than what I am sharing in this post.

EDIT: as it turns out, I do have some more information

As some of you know, icaio has not been on SG for a while, and he hasn't logged into his Steam profile either.

I posted on his Steam profile a few weeks ago, just a quick note saying I hoped he was okay.

Yesterday I received a friend request on Steam from someone I did not recognize. I didn't see any obvious red flags, so I accepted.

This new friend sent me a message today, saying that they were icaio's cousin, and they saw my post on his profile and wanted to let me know that icaio passed away on September 30.

*

I don't think it's a stretch to say that icaio was an absolute legend of Steamgifts. His generosity, sense of humor and thoughtfulness came through in every 'showerthinking' post and every 'trash' game giveaway and every time he helped to solve a derailment in the community train.

Before I visited Rome a few years ago, caio volunteered to give me his mobile number so I could ask him real-time questions while I was in Italy. And that's exactly what I did! So we didn't quite get a chance to actually meet in person, but it was fun to chat with him while we were in the same country.

Not much more to say right now. Just R.I.P. to icaio, he will always be a Steamgifts legend.

The icaio Memorial Community Trainβ„’ begins here.

EDIT: ashtwo had the idea to turn my giveaway into the start of a miniature community train, which is a pretty great idea.

EDIT: here are a few giveaways from other users that haven't yet been retrofitted into the train:

That is something unbelievable, Caio was always helpful. I didn't have a chance to interact with him a lot, but still feel it is a great loss for the community. Let his soul rest in peace πŸ™.

This post was made in memory of icaio and to honor his time as a cherished member of Steamgifts.

Please do not derail the topic with speculations regarding details of his passing. Be respectful towards him and those left behind. Anything that gets close to doxing his identity will not be tolerated and should be kept off Steamgifts.

Man, that's sad news. I don't get that involved in the community here (beyond the actual giveaways) but even I knew who he was.

RIP icaio.

I know some lovely users have tried to fulfil icaio's final GA commitments, and a great big thanks for those people. Could we ask the Mods to delete the GAs that have been unable to be fulfilled and/or marked as unreceived, so as to not tarnish his account for things outside his control?

Didn't have much interactions with him, but what a legend. Always joyful and willing to give. No negativity of any kind. A rarity these days.
I hope he remains a part of steamgifts.
RIP!

I was looking at the list of games developed in the link you attached.
Oddly enough, I found his comment from six years ago.
https://itch.io/post/551250

🧳Maybe a good trip?πŸŽƒ
I recall a few of the games he said he liked, Icycle: On Thin Ice, Circa Infinity, Cranks and Goggles, and a few others that I recall hearing about, but my memory is always a little rusty.πŸ˜…

Cranks and Goggles

I believe the last stage of the last car game was associated with this SG.πŸ€”<CG

icaio said this about 5 years ago.πŸ™„

no gifts for me, send them to Sg

I'm sure he's still the same man he's always been, and I'm sure he might be watching over this Steamgifts.🍡

His review for Cranks & Goggles was funny:

"also, those who complain about the difficulty should really try to drive a 20's car, as soon as they get the chance."

I never interacted with him. I was usually just a silent reader, lurking the comment section without writing anything. but what I do know is that he was a kind and generous person.

RIP you will be missed!

I kinda knew this thread would grow more and more, and it keeps growing. The thread itself is a great legacy and memorial for Icaio. I think he would love some of the game choices and comments on the train too.

I've never had the chance to talk with icaio, but from what I'd seen over the years is that he was an incredibly generous person and one of the most active and loved users here. Rest in peace.

Didn't know him more than a person I whitelisted years ago because of the crazy amount of giveaways he created here. But seeing the amount of people gathering here and on his profile warms my heart. I wish he could see this, RIP
