I heard about humble bundle when it was new, but I kinda ignored it cause that was before my collecting phase... then I finally felt forced to get steam cause I wanted to legally replay portal 2... which coincided with Humble Indie Bundle 9... the rest in history

Thanks for the really nice train! Unfortunately, I don't remember how I discovered bundles at all, I only know that the first I've heard about was Humble Bundle.

Hmm my first bundle was the original humble bundle I think and I'm pretty sure it was either mentioned on the pcgamer website or maybe rock paper shotgun. Thanks for the train and bumpity.

Will this train ever gonna end? X-(
Edit: Finally.

I probably discovered bundles and freebies thanks to SG, in the first months of my presence here.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't long after Frozen Synapse came out. I read some reviews of it and got interested. But to my surprise, when I opened their official site it said something like: "Sorry, but you can buy the game directly from us at the moment, but you can get it in the current Humble Bundle!". And I was like: "Whaaaat? It's too good to be true! Where is the catch?" I've been following them since then.
EDIT: Found the date - October 2, 2011.

That was epic. Thank you, Cjcomplex.
I first found out about bundles from the GOG forum in Feb 2010, where somebody pointed out the Indie ♥ Bundle

Whoa, that was a long train! Entered several of the giveaways, thank you!
I found out about bundles here on SG a long time ago. I'm one of the people who don't have much money to buy games and someone recommended to me that I could start buying bundles. And start buying bundles I did :D

Happy bundle cake day & thanks for the train!
I first found out about bundles about... a year ago, maybe a little bit more, through the actiity feed - some group posted a link to... I don't remember which of the 4 big bundle sites.
I see some people mentioned GoG, though I don't consider it to be a bundle site proper and have been a GoG customer since the very beginning, as opposed to being a 'late bloomer' bundle-wise.

Thanks !
I actually discovered bundles when someone I followed on youtube gave away a humblebundle gift link.

That is a great way to start XD. It will probably end up being the best bundle of the year, unless we get some craziness within the next few weeks.

Oddly, I found out about HumbleBundle initially from a browser game ... that I quit 3 days later. Had been playing for a couple months at least, around the 30th spot on leaderboard. But despite claims otherwise, it was all but abandoned development wise. The dev actually did post from time to time, and once did a reset claiming to tie things over while a massive update and re-development was underway. But no one ever saw screenshots, staff never saw a beta, and even today, more than two years later, it hasn't been updated. Blatant lies, in other words. Least the idiot had the sense to remove the donation option during his grand claims of a massive overhaul.
Still, it was posted on a forum post there. Someone pointed out a game on the $1 tier that was very similar to the browser game in nature, just, minus the whole "online" aspect. Completely slips mind which one it actually was, but then, I also know I didn't actually start buying bundles until MUCH later. Maybe... October, last year? >.> Lol. I'm fairly certain it was after I brought the pre-order for Dreamfall Chapters on HB, since was cheaper then Steam, plus something actually went to charity.

On Nov. 8th, it will have been one year since I bought my very first bundle! Why is this significant you ask? Well, I didn't collect steam games until I discovered Humble and things have kind of gotten out of control since then XD. I figured I might as well celebrate the day when I first descended into madness :P.
Oddly enough, I first heard about bundles thanks to a Zero Punctation video where Yahtzee mentions after the credits that his book was part of a humble book bundle. If it weren't for that video, I very much doubt I would have discovered bundles and I would have probably went back to playing WoW instead of finding a whole slew of pc games that have pasted me by. Kinda weird when you think about it.
Anyways, here is the train that I promised.
Instead of bumping, please let me know how all of you found out about bundles. Kinda curious what some of the answers will be.
Edit: Forgot to add this, but my first was the Humble Indie Bundle 13.
