  • The fact that when you have a lot of games, activating a key freezes the client for a while.
  • The fact that you can't activate a key from the web like Desura (makes me miss all the ninja key drops while at work)
  • The fact that the games icon's don't seem to be cached in the client and that it constantly reloads them from the site. (When you've got over 1k games, this really takes forever)
  • The fact that you can't tell Steam to not automatically update ALL your games at once, and how badly it behaves when automatic updates are turned off.

i also get the problem of "no connection" frequently, and when downloads get suspended :/

  • Inability to chat while verifying game files
  • Slow Client
  • Inability to open multiple tabs in client
  • Unequal region prices ($1=/=1€, other stores don't stop you from buying in different currency)
  • We don't actually own the games
  • Inability to play games in offline mode that require updating

Well you dont. You own licenses giving you the right to play them.

which never was a problem, but now everything resides in the cloud instead of having a physical copy of the media . Just imagine if a really dastardly hacker ever got into Steam's servers and wiped out your purchase data. I also think its just BS legaleze to say we don't own the game. No I don't own the rights to the IP however I should never be limited on use. Imagine if you bought a car and they told you that if you added a seat cover they would just take the car away because you modified it and breached the EULA :P

I agree with you, it should be fixed.

Big picture is useless, IMO.

Having to install DirectX pretty much every time I install a new game.

The DirectX thing is actually a DirectX problem, not a Steam problem as far as I know. The only way that it can check to see what version you have and if you're up to date is to run the installer, same with the .net framework and the other 'first time setup' things.

I believe that before installing the game after downloading, you can delete the installation files (eg. DirectX, XNA, etc) from the game folder. Just make sure you know what you're deleting.

On a related note, if you're running out of disk space, there's a nifty program to delete those duplicate installation files: http://steamcleaner.tikione.fr/en/

DirectX has a (rather tiny) component called D3DX which they update every 2 months or so. A game won't run unless you have the exact same version of D3DX as the game developers had when they built it (you can have any number of D3DX versions installed on your computer at the same time, so installing a new one will never break games you already have). That's why you need to install DirectX so often. There's nothing much Steam can to to avoid this.

1- Support is retarded

2- Region locked games

3- Support is retarded

4- Client bugs while activating a game or checking game files as you said

5- Support is retarded

6- No Turkish Lira support, 1$ = 2 TL. Our average pay is 773 TL.It is impossible to buy anything at full-price.

7- SUPPORT IS DAMN RETARDED.

Region lock on games is managed by the publishers, not valve.

I dunno, man. I don't think you got your point across.

Try saying it about ten more times.

Steam has so many freaking problems as a software, as a service Steam is great, but as a software it's simply horrible.

EDIT: And support is beyond hopeless, by far the most terrible support I've ever seen.

Can't put games into multiple categories. I'd love to tag my games.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

you can, click on a game in your library and on the right side it should say category. you can then name the category anything you want, only bad part is that you have to do that for every single game so if you're like me with 450 games it can take a while

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No, you can't. You can put games in a single category each. You can not put them into multiple categories, which is what I'd like.

I don't think it even has to be the xbox button. One time, I pressed the play button on Tomb Raider and was just moving the left and right stick around while I waited for the game to boot up and then my computer froze. After it unfroze, Steam went into Big Picture mode. =.= lolz

The flaky "offline mode" that doesn't seem to work unless you switch to offline mode while you are online. If your internet is down, or you play on a laptop and you're travelling, you might try to start Steam and it will say "Would you like to start in offline mode?", after clicking yes you get an error that you cannot connect to Steam and it shuts down. Offline mode. Right.

Support by far, i cant remember have i encountered a worse service somewhere else, either it didnt existed or it was way better that this abomination that Steam just refuses to improve. At this point, i can only recommend to any new user to consider Steam as no-support platform and if he encounters any issues he is better off fixing them on their own any way he can.

This. It should at least prioritize players you've actually played against when doing a search. It clearly can already based on the "recently played with" list, so it should be able to do that.

It should at the very least honour speechmarks to denote searching for a specific phrase. Searching for "Bob Smith" in speechmarks returns everything with either Bob OR Smith.

The fact that they have no random game button. Going throw my library is to boring, I need a button that can throw me into a random game in my library.
And, can't believe I forgot this. The mobile apps look like complete utter garbage, especially the tablet ones. They just took the phone versions and stretched them the fudge out.

What I find annoying is that you can't play while downloading. Although you can minimize the game you are playing and download the game, but it keeps on pausing. What happened was that I needed to download Portal 2 on my slow internet, but I was bored so I wanted to play the ship (I was that bored). But I had played the ship and at the end I found out it had paused >:(
