Oh yeah, the most annoying of annoying. Is when you don't update your game, steam automatically updates it at startup FFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Having to install Microsoft C++ so many times, i must have like 5 different versions of 2008 installed
Comment has been collapsed.
Not really, game checking if you have it then if you do it passes.

No, it always does it and installs period. I can tell it no and play, but then I have to deal with it EVERY TIME.

This is something that they can't really fix: Its because of errors in the version of DX, or Microsoft C++
Consider 2 developers A and B
Both discover errors in how the DX works, developer A works around it making changes to his code to accomodate for this error, completes his game, everyones happy and he moves on to bigger better projects.
Developer B messages microsoft who fixes these errors. B completes his game with the updated package and again everyone is happy.
Problem occurs, if Micorosft updates the DX package for A's game. It no longer works because they adapted to the bug which are no longer present. This can't happen, imagine one day half your games no longer work because the C++ version got updated.
Instead we have what we do right now. Several different iterations of C++ and DX all installed.

There's a lot but after 10 minutes with Origin, I thought Steam was the best thing ever invented.

I guess the system where it doesn't download game when you play a game from Steam library. For example, I wanted to play some Binding of Isaac while I had Portal 2 downloading and installing and I completely forgot about this "stop download while playing" thing. I played for an hour, looked in Steam and was very angry because Portal 2 had only about 5% downloaded instead of about 85-90% that it should've been.

And for browsers, they have a incognitio/private browsing method that does not save your browsing history at all apparently.

It doesn't. Even with my 3mbit connection, i can download a game while still playing an online game and not get that much lag, or even surf without a hassle.

Must be nice, because it does for me. Even putting it at 64kb/s it still downloads much faster than that, so I have to use a server from India which makes the download speed lower, and its still slows down my internet to a crawl.
Been forced to use 3rd party programs.

My parents use this chinese program called PPS to watch these chinese TV shows and movies. THAT is a real bandwidth eater. When my mom uses the program, no one else can use the internet unless they want to have a continuous on-off again connection.
We have a 30Mbits internet connection! It still eats it all up! lolz

The fact that I HAVE TO run it while playing a game, or at least starting it. When you have a not high-end computer like mine, any extra tasks while you're playing a game make it lag more.
Comment has been collapsed.
That's actually the game developers' fault, not Steam's. They're the ones who decide that the game should abort (or attempt to start Steam) if they find that the client isn't running. Take a look at Super Meat Boy - you can run it without the Steam client and it'll even keep track of all your achievements you earn in the meantime and tell Steam about them next time you run the game when the Steam client is up. Nothing stopped Team Meat from doing it this way, nothing's stopping anyone else either.

Regularly re-downloading entire games for no apparent reason, unnecessarily chewing up my limited monthly download allowance.

Official steam tiles for windows 8, i use third party app for that right now cause those tiles are just gorgeous, but why steam can't have that by default? Instead of adding ugly desktop icons in metro interface...
Aswell would like to see steam cloud support for more games and better steam browser aswell, cause current one is way too limited.

The thing I find most annoying is that there is no way to find out if a game supports a windowed mode until you actually play the game or if the game is going to have one choice of resolution that is too big for your monitor. I do think that should be mentioned in the features or requirements. That and most games lack any sort of ability to disable fullscreen until you get into the game, and that has rendered a few games unplayable for me.
I'd also add, no way to message someone who is not on your friends list. Obviously if allowed it should be able to be disabled and/or you can have a block list if you get a lot of spam. Not so bad once I figured out how to turn off the alerts that a friend was playing a game, but still obnoxious.
Inability to play two games at once. Like right now the game I'm playing is just auto grinding towards an achievement. I'd like to play something else.
Not being able to opt out of free weekend games. I don't want them added to my library for any amount of time.

How would you do that? And I don't have any source games, so that wouldn't be an issue. I'd just like to play something else right now while I have Tidalis running and grinding for the To The Moon achievement.
Comment has been collapsed.
That might be it because I know I got an error once, but seems I can play something else while playing Tidalis at least since Ys Origin just launched. Maybe it was that I couldn't play something else with Ys Origin running since that was another I commonly have to take breaks from and you can't save during time attack, so I have to leave it running to do so.

My number 1 peeve is those annoying alerts that keep popping up. If only you could filter which types of alerts are displayed. After that:
Forced updates
Downloads pause when you start a game
Bizarre implementation of window modality
That "Steam needs to convert the game data to a more efficient format" thing which completely locks up absolutely everything for a good part of an hour or however long it takes with no way to cancel, so if you give up and decide to play some other Steam game instead you're forced to kill Steam through the task manager
Offline mode still seldom works
UI problems - general sluggishness (worse than any other program I've used), no support for the context menu button, almost nothing accessible from keyboard
Can't install a game without Internet even if you have all the files and it's right there on your library in offline mode
No option to "appear offline" in Friends
Comment has been collapsed.
That doesn't work. It signs you out of Friends. The point of "appear offline" is to not do that.

He wants to be invisible to other uses, but able to message whoever he pleases. This is a standard chat feature that is horribly overlooked in Steam chat... but there are so many things overlooked in Steam chat, I sadly consider this low priority.

I think he wants to be a lurker. Someone who everyone else thinks is not online, but is infact online, playing games, and reading chat logs, and the whole shebang.
Used to be in this internet forum where these mods and wanna-be mods lurk the chatbox, the name "lurker" just stuck with me after that. :D lolz
