My last film was The Butterfly Effect 🦋 (for the 5th time haha ). Seriously, I really like imagining other possibilities that our choices can cause, this one comes from Chaos Theory.
Great film, I recommend everyone watch it (at least the first film, the others that came after I really didn't like 😖).

Oh yeah, that one really makes you think. I've only watched it once but it might be time for a rewatch soon. Didn't even know it had sequels, but it sounds like they weren't very good anyway. Welcome to my WL.

I decided to make a podcast going over the film careers of Dennis Hopper, Bob Hopkins and John Leguizamo. Because of this the last movie I watched was an underwhelming '73 comedy called The National Health. Hopkins is alright in it but it's nothing to seek out.

The Whale

I'm a bit conflicted on it

Oh man, It felt a little "over-indulgent" with the suffering and the eating. And the film tries to make you root for the underdog (fraser) with his character's calmness and overall moral superiority, imo.
Pretty good film for something that only really takes place in one apartment setting. And I liked the character complexity for something in a short film; nobody was to blame and yet nobody was innocent in this situation.

The last movie I watched was The Fifth Element. I don't think it lived up to some of the more fanatical reviews of it, but it was pretty good. Supporting cast really elevated it. What's the last movie you've seen, OP?

The Fifth Element is very good and I still got that aria stuck in my head. If you wanna find out my last movie, just check out the movies thread where I post my latest movie every day. It was Barbie (2023) and it was surprisingly good, better than I expected. Welcome to my WL.

I enjoyed it, although not as much as the original trilogy. The plot has some turns that you shouldn't think about too deeply, but I didn't dislike it. I think it's an enjoyable adventure, and better than Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Oh yeah, you wouldn't have enjoyed this one, then. There are scenes where the movie became almost unbearably loud. And I'm not even talking about the explosion.

Permalink

Oh yeah I caught onto that, noticed that some scenes were louder than others even when watching at home. But then it's as simple as just hitting the volume button on the remote, can't do that in the cinema unfortunately.

No need to whitelist me. Just wanted to say thanks for this thread - I added a few movies to my backlog...

I usually don't have enough time to watch whole movies in a single sitting, so I tend to watch several of them in parallel, in different settings. So I got several "last" movies:

Hypnotic - an OK thriller with a nice "mind control secret goverment agency" premise. If you like the premise I suggest reading the comic book series MIND MGMT, and the novel Lexicon - both are much better, and deeper (but maybe it's the medium...)

By pure chance I watched two other films by the same director/writer (Robert Rodriguez): Machete and Machete Kills, which are in the so-bad-it's-good category. Only reason I managed to finish them was that I watched these while exercising...

Seven Samurai - A Masterpiece

Three Thousand Years of Longing - Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton - wow! would never have guessed that pairing would work - and it works well. Plus a lot of dialog in Aramaic, Ottoman Turk and other weird sounding languages.

Last movie I went to see at a movie theater:
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves - a surprisingly good adventure flick - had a lot of fun.

I've seen the trailer for Hypnotic (2023) at the cinema. Looks interesting. The Machete movies are stupid fun, which is definitely not a bad thing sometimes. Seven Samurai (1954) is a masterpiece. If that was maybe your first Kurosawa, definitely check out his other work, too. He made a lot of really great movies. Three Thousand Years of Longing (2022) was so good! I was so invested in this world, I wish it would've been twice as long. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023) I've seen twice now. Once at the cinema and once at home. And each time it's been so much fun! I really want them to make more DnD movies. Whoops, now I already whitelisted you. Welp. :P
