I rarely watch movies. Last time I was in the cinema was in the 90s, and even at home I don't have Netflix or similar.
Cinema: 90s: City of Angels, Titanic (not sure which was the last one I saw)
At home: 00s: Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter (again, not sure about the order)
I've probably seen something more recent, but I don't remember.

Last movie I watched was on Netflix. I was going for Puss in Boots but it seemed it was only available on the American version, not the EU version. So a bit disappointed I clicked on another animated movie. "Nimona."
I went in with no expectations but the movie is quite enjoyable. Strange at times but enjoyable.

Perfume - The Story of a Murderer (2006) - It's an odd and interesting movie that kept me hooked throughout, but then the ending felt like a bit of a let down and left me with mixed feelings overall. I feel like it could have been much better if they did something else with the end.

It was a tough novel to adapt, to their credit they did the best they could but the ending is... abrupt and just not that good. In the novel, it feels different. The narration and the culmination of all the threads that have been carefully woven through the book makes it feel very different from... well... just seeing it graphically exposed on the screen.

That's unfortunate because I don't really enjoy spending time reading books. I might be interested in listening to the audiobook though. Then I can listen to it while doing some other repetitive tasks that don't require much thought.

I feel like they should show certain movies to a test audience to get feedback and maybe rework things if needed before releasing it to everyone. There have been so many movies like this where I am captivated throughout and waiting for something to happen in the end, but then it disappoints and feels kind of flat. It feels like they came up with a good concept for a movie, but then didn't spend then time to fully work out a good story and just gave up in the end.

With this movie, I would prefer if they didn't stay faithful to the book and just made a more interesting movie. Everyone that enjoyed the book would complain that they changed it and I understand that as well, but you can't please everyone. Some books can't be easily turned into a movie and in those situations, instead of not making the movie or making a bad movie, I feel like the story should be changed and the two types of media will just be slightly different stories that are both enjoyable.

It's a very enjoyable movie. But better avoid watching it with kids.
I'll just say if someone is alone watching a movie or listening to songs on headphones, take a break every once in a while to see if something has happened. I'd like to go into more detail, but it will cause nightmares. :(

Thanks! If you mean by 'teenie horror' one of those movies where a bunch of teens get killed off by some psychopath or other, then not at all. It's actually a pretty clever riff on a very popular movie from the early 90s that was not even a horror movie - not saying which as that would spoil the fun a bit. Better not to know before you watch it.

That's the best way to watch movies anyway. Okay, I'll put it on my list. What about the sequel?

Very solid. It expands on the original without becoming repetitious. In fact, it manages to break out into a very different direction from the 1st movie.

Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon
I didn't like it as much as Armipour's other movies like A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night or The Bad Batch but it was a pretty good watch anyway.
It's definitely more of a visual experience with a minimalist narrative erring on the side of a parable, not quite the full fledged movie most people would expect but I recommend it for the direction and the performances alone.

How many movies do you watch in a week?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Already got that one on my list, as I enjoyed A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night (2014) a lot.

Usually like 8 but there have been times where I went crazy and watched 3 movies a day, every day, for a month. Burned me out for real, so I'm back to 1 a day. Or two when there's something good at the cinema.

And you know you're already on my WL, but thanks for your comment anyway. :D

Yeah I guess you need a palate cleanser when you go that hard with movies. One a day sounds like a good rate to catch up with you know... aaaaall the movies. Especially since you don't limit yourself to recent/US/blockbusters movies.

And you know you're already on my WL, but thanks for your comment anyway. :D

Heh yeah I should have said I just can't resist commenting on a thread that has "movie" in it somewhere.

When I watched 3 most of the time they were completely unrelated. Like what I watch now, just 3 in a day. I didn't even give myself any time to process the movie I just watched, I immediately rushed into a completely different universe. That's... surprisingly not great for one's mental health. 1 a day is good. Can recommend. :D

I knew I would catch a few familiar faces with this thread. :D

True. It can be destabilizing and also it doesn't let you fully appreciate the movie. I try to avoid watching several movies in a row unless they're from the same franchise or series like Lord of the Rings.

Well, he probably was taking a lot of drugs in the 1960ies so that would have helped XD
This being said, if you change "day" to "week" for the films and "week" to "month" for the books, that's a good formula, and you can take hard drugs out of the equation entirely lol
