I don't like horror movies, so I'll say Alien, since it is classified as "horror" among other things.
BTW, thank you for the giveaway.

Thats an easy one, Rob Zombie's "House of 1000 Corpses".

"The Devils Rejects", a follow up, isn't bad either.

I have fairly conventional tastes when it comes to horror, I like classic stuff such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Alien and The Thing.
I'm also fond of the quirkiness of Evil Dead 2.

Don't really watch horror movies D:

My favourite horror movie of all time is the American remake of The Ring. I watched it at a sleepover as a 12 year old, stayed up all night terrified in my friend's bed, was scared to walk into rooms alone for weeks in case I'd find one of those horrific corpses, couldn't sleep without leaving the TV on for years, still get the same thrills every time I watch it to this day. I say this as a girl who has literally watched horror movies since as early as her memories reach back, thanks to a very inappropriate grandmother. The Ring is the only movie that has ever truly freaked me out and was just perfectly engineered to hit all of my horror buttons. Long black hair, terrifying unhuman movement, water, silence, those corpse-faces, that horrible boiling-kettle sound... There's just something about it.

You weren't supposed to help her.

What's that? Sequel? Nope, never heard of a sequel. There's no sequel. There is ABSOLUTELY NO SUCH THING AS "THE RING 2".

Haven't seen Rings yet, but it might also end up suffering from severe non-existence.

Other horror movies I would recommend are:

  • Ju-On (The Grudge). My favourite J-Horror, has similar elements to The Ring.
  • The Babadook. Didn't find this one scary (except for the phonecall scene) but it was masterfully made.
  • The Sixth Sense. Yes, I would consider this a horror movie, even though it's pretty mild and it's got a gloopy ending. Heck, it's just a really amazing movie, watch it anyway.
  • The Blair Witch Project. A very, very, VERY slow burn, so be warned. I liked that, though. Ending was amazing. No idea what the sequel is like.
  • The Shining. A little bit slow-paced sometimes, but Kubrick was so masterful with his direction. The whole film feels wrong, like that feeling you get when you feel like somebody is watching you.
  • Event Horizon. Yeah, I know, it's terrible. That's why I love it. I love it in the way I love Sonic 06. It's so terrible, it's amazing. Plus there are a couple of moments that hit the creep factor enough to be alright.
  • IT. The new one. I found it about as scary as The Babadook, which is to say, not really. However, I can see it hitting a lot of buttons for certain kinds of people. I also really liked the changes to the original story. If you've read the book, you'll know what I mean by "god-turtle" and "child-orgy". The film was much better off without them.
  • 28 Days Later. I suppose zombie movies fall under the genre of horror, right? Again, I don't find this movie scary, but some may. Regardless, it's very well-written and gritty, which is what I like in my zombie flicks.
  • Carrie. I love this movie. It is perfect. It is art. It's horrible and great.

Horror movies I would not recommend:

  • Drag Me To Hell. Yeah, yeah, I know. It has a cult following. I saw the original release in the cinema. Not even slightly scary. Is the endless amount of gross-out puking supposed to be horrific or humourous? Also, why build up the stupid demon if he DOES NOTHING? Final note: excellent twist at the end, thoroughly enjoyed it. It just wasn't worth sitting through the rest of the movie for.
  • Paranormal Activity. I only watched the first, and would not watch any of the others. I understand what they were trying to do, and I think it's a decent effort. They just didn't push it far enough. TBWP works because you get involved in the story of these stupid teenagers in a hopeless situation, and the forest is a scary location without even trying. The reveals are masterful. PA, on the other hand, has a couple that are completely uninteresting in a house that is completely uninteresting. The scary events are not scary enough. The reveals aren't filled with horror, mostly just screeching. It could tickle some peoples' bones, I guess, but I didn't care for it at all.
  • Uzumaki. My favourite manga, by the immaculate Junji Ito. One of the worst horror movies I've ever seen, by some director who I hope never made another horror movie. It was created before the manga was finished, and as a result, ended completely idiotically. The big scare in the movie, which was one of the most horrifying moments of the book, took FOREVER to happen. The only thing worth it was one minor jumpscare.

That's all I can think of for now! You might notice that almost everything I listed revolves around paranormal horror. I don't really like murderers and gore and that kind of thing. I'm not even a Level 1 for the giveaway, I just had nothing better to do. :3

Edit: OH EXCEPT! I guess Battle Royale would be considered a horror movie? Absolutely ADORE that film! I don't watch it for the horror, though, since gore doesn't really bother nor excite me.

Edit edit: And my favourite horror/comedy will always and forever be Shaun Of The Dead. I don't need to explain why, it is flawless. I'll stop adding more now, promise.
