I am ok with the join button, as long as the user makes his homework and is aware of the games he already owns. But those results simply prove, that a lot of people simply don't do. This only ends up in work for the op and the support permanently dealing with re-rolls.
What about the extreme lazy people who don't even use the sync-button and do auto-join games they already "won"?

What is amusing me the most, is your solution to the problem.
On the one hand you are doing what means nothing but trouble for everyone else, once you make a join-error and on the other hand you are simply skipping the entire problem by almost just doing private GA. But that's totally ok, even though just for you , I guess.

The only word coming to my mind, describing this is behavior in a fitting way, is parasitic.
This is nothing more than ignoring other peoples afford and ultimately wasting their time. And since you are solving the problem by reducing you open giveaways, you seem to be very well aware of these circumstances.
