β€œWhen you hear of Gay Pride, remember, it was not born out of a need to celebrate being gay.
It evolved out of our need as human beings to break free of oppression and to exist without being criminalized, pathologized or persecuted.
Depending on a number of factors, particularly religion, freeing ourselves from gay shame and coming to self-love and acceptance, can not only be an agonising journey, it can take years.
Tragically some don't make it.
Instead of wondering why there isn't a straight pride be grateful you have never needed one.
Celebrate with us.”

Where are the threads for the other events? I am just saying the best way to be accepted is not to scream "I am different, I am special and proud of it" to the world. I happen to have two gay co-workers. One is normal person who happens to be gay and it does not affect his work in any way. The other shouts he is gay all the time and everything he does not like is homophobia so he feels opressed all the time - as result he is kinda slacker. Most people hate him.

You can open them if you like. It's not because Mully choose a cause for her thread than the rest is worth nothing fighting for.

And I think you're kind of confused of the signification of Pride in Gay Pride. It's not Pride = "i'm cooler", it's Pride = "not shameful anymore". People still die for being gay, hence the need for raising awareness until it stop.

On a side note : Having one red apple taste delicious and a green apple being disgusting doesn't mean all the red apple are better than the green one. Maybe the one not saying it all the time is just naturally enjoyable, while the other one has just a bad personality, and would scream for something else if not gay.

I like the alphabetical order. Also it's about time someone brings up National Accordion Month. I got a bad case of accordion a couple of years ago. The say at night, you can still hear the Polka

Permalink

Why do you like the alphabetical order? Because it buries the most important issues (eg cancer, gay rights) and makes corporate advertising (eg iced tea, steakhouses) seem to be equally worthy of attention?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yep, whatever you say, alphabetical Cancer and alphabetical Gay rights (C comes before G) and what not.
Hazza!
Alphabetical pitchforks and torches (did it again - P before T but only after G like Pitchforks, Torches and Gangrene) against the people who say something non-alphabetical!
Hazza!!
All hail the non-alphabetical va3victis (Last I checked there weren't two Vs or Is in the alphabet, nor any numbers. Oops, a fact slip) for their all knowing of people's evil intentions of liking alphabetical order.
Hazza!!!
Aliens are alphabetical people too!
How dare you say a rock can't be a good alphabetical companion!
I'm offended by the bizarre way you think alphabetical is offensive because of whatever offended victimized reasoning (O before V but only before R? - don't make sense this time... FOILED AGAIN!) you chose! Like anyone else who turns a simple random comment into a big deal. Next thing you know being human is going to be offensive because being human is humanizing to non-alphabetical-humans. Grow up...

Rocks have alphabetical feelings too.

Crap forgot to alphabetize the entire paragraph... I must be anti-_____ (Fill the blank)

Oh and nothing says burying like alphabetized. Oh gosh, don't get me started on that, eh? Because it's hard to tell where L is in the alphabet. Not like it's between two other letters like K and M.

Now, to reiterated - Grow up.

Permalink

Theres not really any reason it was in alphabetical order except the fact I copied it that way from other source. They actually had GLBT there so I changed it to correspond this topipc... but it's not truely alphabetical now.

Just get rid of that accordion. It's the best time now, it's "Rebuild Your Life Month".

Do you really not see the difference, or are you intentionally trivializing one of the most important legal and moral struggles of our time, by putting it on a list along with so-called events created by corporations and lobbyists? Why would insult yourself by suggesting that removing the stigma of being LGBTQ is as important and worthy of our attention as, say, an ad campaign to help dairy or turkey or fruit farmers sell more food?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Also, while your anecdote is unfortunate, it's also irrelevant to the bigger issue: homophobia is real, and the LGBTQ community most certainly did not win public acceptance or any of their civil rights by being silent. To suggest that gay people should shut up and act like everyone else when they are still legally, socially, and personally discriminated against in many places is to suggest that they shouldn't fight for the equal treatment and rights that every human being deserves.

This topic shows that humankind is progressing little by little. Not so many lacking people as in the past; a lot of straight have a real pride ;3 More and more people realizing that they can't be happy by making unhappy people around. Piece and love to everybody <3

Years ago shallow-minded could publicly discuss how ridiculous it is to consider a woman as equal member of society as a man. Now they can do it in their stuffy kitchens gossiping with own ignorant dying breed Sadly, there is still some really straggled places in the world in this regard. This is so hilariously human-like to block others from what oneself has been getting just because someone made it possible in the past, paying bitter price. If not somebody fighting for human rights before, most people could perfectly still be farming crops for their lords. Luckily for morally retarded, rights and freedoms are given to those who don't understand and need them, too. Enjoy your wasted opportunities!

Weak in the reason will just peacefully disappear, forgotten as a bad dream, like tears in a rain before the bright rainbow ;3

Wow this kinda came out of nowhere. Although given Merkel's previous views on the matter, it's probably more of a political move to gather votes for the upcoming election than a real concern for gay people's rights.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It wasn't Merkel's proposal. One of the other governing parties (the SPD if I'm not mistaken) proposed it in what I would call a cheap ploy for attention shortly before the next elections after not having brought up the topic for the last 4 years they have been part of the goverment. So while it's obviously a good thing the reasons behind it are highly questionable in my opinion.

And since austrian politicians prefer to rather not think for themselves and instead blindly follow whatever Germany does,
the very next day the topic suddenly popped up in Austria. Don't get me wrong I'm all for it that gay people have the right to be just as miserable as heteros but the timing on this one is just embarrassing.

I guess best not to look a gift horse in the mouth...

Yeah, the timing is embarrassing, but that's the political machine. Wrong promises and actionism before and directly after votes and mostly apathy in the years between votes.

My god brother and my best friend are both gay ^ ^ (hope its ok to have pride in them huhuhu)

It was a funny time when my godbrother came out to my family because we knew long before hand and are not the kind of people
to call him out on it or anything till he was ready. Since I love him like my blological brother we had a good laugh together.
He came out to us before his biological parents because he was more comfortable with us. (not anything wrong with them, he did later, just easier
for him to talk to my mother who pretty much everyone around the neighborhood from kids to adults would come to her with there problems.
My parents were a lot more social than me.

Went to many gay clubs to support them since they would do same for me going to straight bars over the years since I could start
goin to bars that is.. :D
Got wasted with crazy drunk guys i didnt know. Saw a few shows where the guys in full of dress and makeup would lipsync (not sure proper terms no offense meant if im supposed to say girls instead? ) .
But I find meeting new people even in most ghetto place in detroit michigan that there are good people everywhere.
As many as there is bad people. So dont lose hope :)

You can't really "disagree" about human equality and still count as a minimally decent human being--accepting human equality is a precondition for being a member of a civilization worth living in. Would you have the audacity to say that we should "tolerate" those who supported economies built on human slavery or who enforced laws against interracial marriage? There are no good arguments for those views, everyone knows there aren't, and it's repugnant to pretend that there's a debate to be had.

What is there to disagree?
Do you think you should have a say on how I live my life? Would that be fair?
And what do you have to do with it? Why does it concern you?
I mean, I don't give a crap if you are straight or gay or whatever. There is nothing for me to disagree about who you are and how you live. There is only respect.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

True. And it's sad that people on both sides don't seem to communicate. It's sad that we even have "sides". Too many have their set of facts that support what they believe and don't want to hear anything else. I'm sure that there are alot of people directly affected by this on both sides that have broken expectations and bitter feelings.
"I've been this way as long as I can remember."
"You can't tell me how to live my life."
"I can live my life however I choose."
"I'm beautiful the way I am. Why do I need to change for you?"
"Just because you can't remember being different doesn't mean you were born that way."
"That's not normal."
"Why can't you change?"
"I just want what's best for you."

You know what? All of those are valid points of view, and they all say the same thing.... "I can't relate you, I don't understand you, and I don't know how to handle you." Isn't that the real problem?

I haven't said anything about who I am or what I believe, but already some have blacklisted me, declared "There's no tolerance", or just pidgeon-holed me and written me off as "one of them".

Well, here's what I say, and I say it to everyone.... "If you hate someone and you don't even know anything about them then, let's face it, you're part of the problem." Let's tolerate each other and treat each other like we aught to be treated, like we want to be treated. Let's listen to each other and not be so quick to think that we're right and they're wrong. And how about this for a concept... let's quit focusing on taking so much pride in who or what we are and start focusing on taking more pride in how you treat people.

That's what I'm saying. So how about we make this "Don't be a jerk" month, or "shut up and listen to someone else for a change" month. (Yeah I know that second one doen't sound as catchy, but still.....)

So, as I said before... Thanks. Have a great month.

And thanks for the reply, Rachelsfg.

I was going to respond with something like "I don't need to celebrate LBGT month since I think I'm sufficiently tolerant" etc. etc.
But the quote you added to the below makes sense. There's a lot of hatred going around in the world.
The crap I hate in addition to the hate is that people often claim that it's justifiable based on some religion, etc. But I feel really strongly that it isn't the case. Wrong or not, I don't care. Nowhere does it say spread the hate. In fact, it specifically states the opposite in Christianity, Islam, Judaism, etc.
So, happy LBGT month!!!!! hope that doesn't sound condescending or insincere

Just because it's the law in those countries doesn't make it a religious commandment. Those are still man-made laws.
As for Sodom, do you think it was an entire city of gay people that it was destroyed for? Also, the word "sodomite" was a consequence of human intervention. Even the word 'gay' has been changed over the years.

Holy crap, that's messed up.
But my view is this: in all religions, it speaks of sin. And all man also sins. So we all sin.
It's also strange because it also goes on to talk about forgiveness.
Let's use another example...if I lie, it's a sin. If another commits murder, he sins too. There is no distinction between the two in the Bible, and Torah (I assume Quran also).
Sorry, I'm rambling a bit, my point is just that we can't decide what is and isn't better or worse. Yes, we don't want murderers and liars considered as the same punishment.
Also, I'm not saying here either that being gay, etc. is wrong or not, but what I'm saying is that it shouldn't matter. We're all human, we all bleed red, we all screw up. I don't have any right to tell anyone else what they're doing is wrong, especially if I'm not perfect either, and even if I was, just because someone else believes something different doesn't make it right for me to oppose them. I believe this is where most religions get things wrong. They believe that whichever is superior and justify killing each other to rid the world of sin.

I hope I'm making sense with this. I'm not trying to argue or labour the point, just that we as humans suck.
