Because I had to install Steam in order to play Half Life 2 when it was first released.

My original reason to create a Steam account was to activate the games from the first Humble Bundle.

I'm glad that I did create my account because I've amassed a very nice collection of games in the 3+ years that I've used Steam.

I opened and account in September 2009 for God only knows what reason. As far as I know, I didn't do anything with it at the moment.
I added Dirt 3 in July of 2011, because it came with a video card, then I forgot about Steam again.
I came back and bought Duke Nukem Forever in February 2012, then I went on and bought the Humble Bundle for Android.

It all went downhill from there... and 2 years later I've become a game hoarder with over 1500 games.

My response is pretty common, CS 1.6. Quit after a year or so. Got back in when Humble Bundles/Steam Sales became popular (shortly after World of Warcraft died).

People I hung out with talked about steam a lot, so I decided to check it out and get one.
