In the beginning I did check everything, but I got very tired of making giveaways (like I told Sleepycat its too much work to make giveaways this way)
Then I decided I had to choose or to stop making giveaways or not to care what the winner does with game
I chose the last option

What do you check when someone wins your giveaway?

1a. Do you check if the winner activated all his/her wins (so also giveaways from other creators)
1b. Do you check if the winner already has the game he/she won from you?
1c. Do you check if the winner activated your giveaway game on steam?
1d. Do you check if the winner plays the game he/she won from you?
1e. Do you check if you got blacklisted bij the winner?
1f. .......................

  • a. I just do this
  • b. I rarely give collections so the winner should not have the game
  • c. If user complies with A I just hope he/she will continue to do so
  • d. No, if he/she just wants to idle it for cards or collect it it's his/her decision, I just hope to make him/her happy
  • e. Nope! Live and let live

1a. Do you check if the winner activated all his/her wins (so also giveaways from other creators)

Yes

1b. Do you check if the winner already has the game he/she won from you?

I check for multiple wins but not if they have the game already. Only for DLCs.

1c. Do you check if the winner activated your giveaway game on steam?

No

1d. Do you check if the winner plays the game he/she won from you?

Have only checked that for one game I gave away but I told myself I will check in like a year or so for titles I paid fullprice because I loved & wanted to share them.

1e. Do you check if you got blacklisted by the winner?

No

In addition, I wait a couple of days after the winner marked as received, if they didn't thank me anywhere they will most likely be blacklisted and I make a note of it (using tags).

1a. Yes, thanks to SilentGuy's SgTolls add-on for the profile.

1b. Always. Just in case the person got the game in the meantime and forgot to leave my giveaway.

1c. Sometimes, but most of the time I forget to check back on them.

1d. No. I do hope the game gets played at some point in time but I won't stalk the winner for that. (Except once, where I made it a "rule" to only join if they wanted to play it right away.

1e. No, never.

One of the reasons why we have so many problems with multiple wins and regifting is because people who make giveaways have become lazy and have allowed it to propagate even more by not checking their winners. We even have a tool now that checks them so I don't see why it's not used more. What I do find frustrating is that I am not allowed to ask for a reroll if a winner has broken the rule multiple times in the past. I don't care if they have already been suspended for it. If they've done it more than once already why should it be my giveaway that gives them yet another chance to do it again? There should be an option for the giveaway creator to not allow proven past violators.

I don't care what they do with a game that they won from me as long as they marked it received. It's up to the next person that they win from to verify that no rules weren't broken - just as I did with their prior wins before giving them the game they won from me.

I just learned about the tool, maybe more people dont know about it
Once I found that someone didnt activate a previous win, the winner said het got a false key. I cant check if the winner is telling the truth
Support couldnt do anything with it cause they dont know either who is telling the truth

I have never experienced an issue like that myself but others have mentioned in the past that they just cancel the giveaway when something like that happens. That info still may be wrong though. If not then are we seeing yet another example of inconsistent comprehension of the rules, even if it's by one of the mods?

I was told that I only needed to look if my own giveaways were marked as received, not to look at giveaways by others (by a mod) Cause in my case it was an unactivated game from another creator
There is no such rule according to this mod

That's definitely contradictory with how things have been run around here. So we're supposed to make sure that they have activated only the giveaway that was won from us and disregard if they failed to activate others in the past? I'm thinking there is a communications issue somewhere there.

I read it. It's semantics. I'm not going to discuss the issue anymore because I've been saying for a long time now that many of the issues here would be dramatically lessened with more staff. The ones that we have are so overloaded that the backlog is ridiculous. They all don't seem to be on the same page when it comes to the rules either. I don't understand the reluctance (or why it takes so long to add one) to add more staff and I don't know why the trades site is for the most part ignored. Unfortunately we have been forced to work around some of these issues if we want to still use this site and for some of it's starting to get old, especially with some of the other giveaway sites that have been made lately - one in particular by someone who got tired of how things are taken care of here. I'm looking forward to it being finished soon.

Yes. That's normal for around here. I've seen many conversations here about a rule which people gave up trying to interpret because of so many different viewpoints and they just moved on and hoping they didn't do anything wrong.

Just be prepared for the "why didn't yoshirules check that guy when he got a win from him?" comments. I have had two of those already in the last year. It's one of the main reasons why I haven't done many giveaways since the site upgrade. Someone won a game from me and they hadn't activated a prior win and I didn't check when I gave them the gift. I got cussed out by someone else over it when the winner of mine won a giveaway later from that person. The second time that happened the person had a few wins after my giveaway and at the time of my giveaway hadn't broken any rules yet but this other person still chose to give me grief over it until I pointed out that the date of the infraction was afterwards. I shouldn't have had to go through that. I could have screenshot and reported them but I already have a ticket that is almost a year old so what good will it do if no one will take care of it right away?
There are extremes here. Some members act like the SG police and others would let a murder happen in front of them and choose to ignore it. I try to fall somewhere in the middle but it's sometimes hard with some of the assholes on this site. Tread lightly and you should be OK. You do a lot of giveaways here and no one should be giving you any grief anyway. I whitelisted you BTW. I am planning on doing a WL giveaway soon as that seems to be the only way to (hopefully) have a giveaway that has no issues.

Thanks a lot for the whitelist
I returned the favor
I also got a support ticket which is 2months old, someone told me that (s) he sent Syrian refugees to my house
A support ticket only has meaning if its get resolved within a week, so I think you are right: there gotta be more mods here

That's a terrible thing for someone to say! That's definitely another example of a ticket that shouldn't have been ignored for that long. Hopefully the person hasn't been allowed to spread like a virus.

The ticket is still open never heard a thing about it(same person also gave out 2 wrong keys with his/her giveaway I think its an evil person
And indeed its bad if such behaviour gets accepted around SG

I try to check 1a for the last two months and 1b.
Checked also 1c on some but had no problems.
Problem with not activated gifts is you don't know if they already got suspended for a month or not. Should be marked somewhere.

What I already checked were mass joins on multiple giveaways with always the same comment. Especially with links. One got blacklisted this way smile
Therefore I prefer no thank you message on join (other messages are welcome ;).
But a thanks on win I like to have :)

Nothing really, just drop the code in and move on with my day, if someone says thank you after or something, that's nice, but it's not really a concern to me.

I check for unactived and multiple wins using SGTools, then check if they have the game and that is it. If they have issues and they are within the last few months I will report them to support but beyond that I usually let it go as I hope they have already been reported, though who knows besides support and I don't wish to bother them too much. I suppose I could check to see if I am blacklisted but I haven't bothered thus far.

1b. Yes, always. I also check if he/she has already won that game/DLC(specially DLCs because they are a bit hard to check for on steam profiles).
1c. I try to do this, but many times forget to actually do so.
1d. No, I don't really care. Is their game now so they can play it whenever they feel like doing it.

I do use SGTools to check the winner before sending the gift. I also check that the winner activates the gift which is quite easy as Steam automatically adds them to my friend list upon activation. I have checked, out of curiosity, have some people played the games they won from me but only rarely. Also make a mental note if the winner will thank me at some point during the process or not. I do not use blacklists but it will affect how I will target my giveaways in the future.

I hate SGTools because like 3 years ago I accidentally won some 0.10$ bundle game twice in a row and since that time I'm automatically denied every single giveaway there. /rant

I only check if they marked it, a thank you is enough for me to be honest. Idc if it sits in their game library, will be played eventually out of curiosity.
