The first anime I went out of my way to watch in Japanese was Cardcaptor Sakura. I was watching AMVs online and saw there were scenes in the original that weren't in the heavily censored English version.

...that I actively watched? Death Note. Dunno if I unknowingly watched anything before that.

The first one I can clearly remember watching as a kid was Voltron: Defender of the Universe.
The one that actually awakened my true interest in anime was Akira, when I was a teenager.
And finally, the one that fully grabbed my attention as an adult and fully shaped my current tastes in anime was Trigun.

When was a kid saw many like Pokemon, Digimon, Yu-Gi-Oh, Dragon Ball, Rurouni Kenshin, etc... But that was like until 10/12 years old. Stopped watching and one day when i was 16 or 17 a girl told me to watch Death Note. I just checked online, saw in less than 24h and didn't leave the anime world ;)

I had my "anime phase" between the ages of 10 and 16, then I stopped completely.. but in those years, man I watched hundreds of anime! XD
My very first, I still remember it of course and probably is still my favourite even after 15 years!
It was Ranma ½, which aired from 1996 onwards in Italy ;)

First proper anime that got me down the rabbit hole; D.Gray-man. Never look back.

Definitely DB or DBZ. Got me into Toonami, which led to Yu-gi-oh!, Tenchi Muyo, Inuyasha, etc. Then I learned how much was out there and have probably watched well over 100 series since. DBZ will remain one of my all time favorites though.

Although I have seen anime many times beforehand, the original Vampire Hunter D is what really got me into it. Thanks to the dominant CG and remake/reboot trend in recent years, I appreciate and prefer the originality of anime and foreign films over the endless, OP stuff Hollywood puts out..

I can't really say for sure, but these are some of the animes/cartoons that shaped my childhood :
Aoki densetsu shoot!, Captain Tsubasa, Challenge of the GoBots, Chibi Maruko-chan, Conan, Doraemon, Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai, Grendizer, Haikara-san ga Tōru (Mademoiselle Anne), Kimba the White Lion, Moero! Top Striker, Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water, Plawres Sanshiro, Princess Sarah, Sangokushi, The Legend of Prince Valiant, The Twins of Destiny, Thumbelina: A Magical Story, Thunder Jet, Tiger Mask, Vicky the Viking...
Of course, these were dubbed in my language, I had no idea what they're called in their original/international versions. Those were the days, not getting any younger, right ?

Not sure but I think it would be around Doraemon, Crayon Shin-chan, or Dragon Ball.
If we are talking about when I become started regularly watch anime, the first is Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood in 2010

Do you remember what your first anime you ever watched was?
I think, if I remember from my childhood, mine was either Battle of the Planets since it was on tv as I was a kid or the US dubbed Star Blazers. I know, I'm showing my age there, but who knew it was anime when you were a child?
