Just a moment ago, games that are "banned" or whatever because Valve cuts tie with developers are no longer detected by Steam API. A prime example is that (almost) all Digital Homicide games are no longer detected as owned.

This is not a per-app change, but rather a system-wide change, so if you own some games made by other developers that are "banned" then Steam API will also no longer detect them. Not sure if this is intentional and why Valve would do this, but surely this will change a lot of things.

What this could mean in SG:

  • for now, if you have won some game before and the game's developer has since been banned or otherwise cut business relationship with Valve, you will show as having not activated the game
  • SGTools check will fail before this mass-whitelist of games gets added, if you have won such games
  • it can be hard to check ownership of such games won from here, either from giveaway creator or from support (Support may receive tickets saying the winner didn't activate these games, but in fact they did, it's just not showing up in the API)
  • for the long term you may be able to enter giveaways for these games and win them multiple times (and get suspended for breaking the rules, of course)

I don't have a complete list of what games are affected, since there are too many. This means if SGTools wants to update their whitelist it can be a non-trivial process.

Also, your profile's game count may have changed, depending on how many such games you have in your account.

For example, I own Barbie and Her Sisters Puppy Rescue (appid: 396390, you won't be able to see that I own this game unless I am on your friends list on Steam and you go to the Friends that Play page of this game), and if you check with Steam API you won't be able to find 396390 as my owned appid.

Why did Valve do this? Was it really necessary or were they just bored?

Someone at Valve must have thought "Hey, our API isn't as broken and inconsistent as it can be. We can half-ass this much better than we're currently doing.

(Yes, I"m just repeating what I posted already: https://www.steamgifts.com/go/comment/6f6zorC . But with no evidence to disprove it, my theory still stands as valid.)

Other theory is that Valve did this to disable crafting of trading card booster packs for the affected titles. If that's true, that's also indicating of how Valve's systems are shit, because they're intertwined in ways that make no sense.

I think it's time to take down steamgifts.com to avoid all the mess. GG valve 😡

People attributing this to valve getting worse don't make much sense to me.

From a customer service perspective someone seeing a friends profile showing recently played 'X' to click on x and find nothing is worse then that info not appearing. Valve don't have to think about SG when making this kind of changes - also number of owned games shouldn't matter so much. No problem if you like a higher number but i doubt anyone lost half or even a quarter of their showed number.
Heck i even wish it could show less - theres games on my library i regret getting but at the same time i think removing then is too harsh. I wish steam allowed us to hide games too. What if i like barbie but don't want people to know? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

That doesn't even compare to the true bad changes like the gifting rules and region locking.

Its bad for us, changes will be needed - but hardly something we can blame valve for. Heck if steam was made by another company- lets say EA for example- chances are we wouldn't even have an api or means to make a steamgifts.

Looks like they're cutting off booster pack eligibility too, which is a pity. Bunch of badges that will never be completed. Can't market these cards or trade them at Steam Card Exchange now - wonder what to do with all those leftover cards. Hopefully there's a trash-swapping service somewhere, otherwise will have to resort to gemifying them.

1 : 1 Cross-set Trading Cards from non-Marketable Cards
I also able to trade my non-marketable cards for your non-marketable cards for free.
Non marketable cards means that cards can't be sold on market anymore (from removed games)
Again, it's only non-marketable cards for non-marketable cards.

Sounds perfect. Thanks, KlappPc :)

I don't care about the shit games from DH and the like, but it does include games that are not shit.
And I just found the achievement page for these games no longer works, that is seriously pissing me off. So now you can get achievements but you mostly cannot see them ?

Why was Driver: San Francisco removed but not Driver: Parallel Lines? Did Valve stop having a relationship with Ubisoft?

I know why it was removed from the store, I would like to know why it was removed from my steam catalog? I didn't request it. i have a number of games that aren't on the store but are still in my catalog. The original release of Fallout 3 for example.

so can we add these games to sg's blacklist / list of free games, so they can't be posted on SG anymore at least? and remove them from the won list as well? - to avoid any confusion in the future about non activated games causing issues?

Seems i went down 23 games,. not too bad.

Well, at least it looks like they are still detected by the API if you go here. So at least scripts can still detect if they're owned.

I think the steam client library count includes free/f2p games you have installed, and SG's count includes any free/f2p licenses you have on your account, while the profile is paid games only.

http://www.sgtools.info/nonactivated/jambock2

Looks like sgtools has updated their lists and have whitelisted at least all of the games that were showing as unactivated for me.

I think I lost like 50 games from my count lol. I don't know and I don't really care,

Did the list get even bigger?
I won 2 games and my profile count is the same even after I activated them.
The only explanation is if more games had their appid deleted today.
