I also have a huge backlog, but I'm really enjoying going through A Song of Ice and Fire right now.
Mainstream, I know! And I have doubts GRR Martin will ever finish it. :')

Book: Ender's Game - read this back in high school long ago for a school project and fell in love with the concept and implications. I know a movie came out and honestly it was not as great as how I imagined the everything taking place in the book and it slims down everything a bit too much.
Movie - Dune (2021) - I had never heard of the series prior to this movie and it was an amazing journey and exploration within a new world that is very different from our own which kept me captivated as I learned more and more.
Show: MindHunter - I pretty much only consume content on youtube so it's been a while since I have watched a series, but I started watching this randomly sometime last week and I got through 9 episodes in one night without sleep. The next workday was awful, but it was certainly interesting to learn about each killer, though the random sex scenes are quite offputting and almost pushed me away from an otherwise great show.

Book: Needful Things
Movie: Eight For Silver AKA The Cursed
Show: The Sandman

Book: The Reason I Jump read this many years ago, never knew there was controversy around it (translator adding too much flavor text?!), nonetheless for me it was a great and insightful book, even though I have no close relative with autism.
Movie: Relatos Salvajes / Wild Tales an anthology movie of six shorter stories (IIRC there is no real connection among them, apart from always involving people in some uniquely stressful situation).
TV: Station Eleven is a single season limited series, which didn't really gather much attention (was released at an unfortunate timing, I can see people not looking for the initial setting just after the lockdowns ended), but it really scratches a similar itch that only Lost and the Leftovers did before. I thought it was a very pleasant and satisfying story, well worth a watch.
Thanks for the event! Have a good one!

Hmmm, I decided I can't keep my two cents ^^
Movies: If you haven't watched the original Fright Night, do it. Suuuuch a joy and an amazing soundtrack.
Shows: has anyone mentioned Buffy yet? Cough Somewhere I saw Firefly recommended, but yeah, another classic and one for many great reasons.
Books: Sylvia Plath - The Bell Jar.
Hm, seems I am a bit outdated. So add Good Omens both for book and show 😄

I am watching tons of TV shows, but the one i started recommending to people recently is Only Murders in the Building. It is a crime comedy show about solving murder in the building(as the name says :D) and they are making podcast while doing so :D
Now off to check what other recommended ¯\(ツ)/¯

Not entering but I have to take this opportunity to recommend the two books I am currently re-reading:

Book: Animal Farm
Show: Better Call Saul
Movie: There Will Be Blood

Book: Hyperion Cantos; sci-fi themed; it's actually a series of 4 books, but Hyperion, the 1st one, even as a stand-alone is gold in my opinion. A movie adapation is rumored.
Movie: Captain Fantastic
Show: I have to second someone and suggest Arcane too. Best show I've seen in recent years and I'm not even a fan or ever played LOL.

Movie: The Secret in Their Eyes - The original from Argentina
Enjoy your vacation and thanks for the giveaways

Book: Anything Lord of the Rings related. Also 1984 by George Orwell.
Movie: The Thing (1982) and Twelve Angry Men (1957) - already recommended above.
Show: Buffy the Vampire Slayer / Hunter x Hunter / Samurai Jack / Avatar: The Last Airbender (if those count)

Movie: The outsider. It's with the morbius guy
Show: Hunter x Hunter, the 90's version is worth, and Gundam iron blooded orphans is on top tier
Book: Berserk or Monster Kanzenban, both are good
😁👍

I'm really enjoying Elizabeth Moon's "Vatta's War" series, particularly the Graphic Audio version of Book 1: Trading In Danger. It's very solid Sci-fi/Space Opera.
I really like how Kylara goes from this fresh-faced kid to this young woman who has learned to command a ship, has grown up, etc. 9.5/10
I then got the rest of the series and really like the development of Cousin Stella and Great Aunt Gracie. (8/10 so far.)
Also, Brandon Sanderson's Alcatraz vs the Evil librarians (Also done excellently by Graphic Audio). (YA fantasy.) Bastille steals the show despite it being "Alcatraz's Autobiography." Grandpa proudly announcing, "I can arrive late to things!", and so many more particulars of that book left me howling with laughter or "gripping the edge of my seat" with fascination. I didn't want to turn off my phone when it was time to do something else. The "Dramatic pauses" were well played, and there are running jokes throughout. 9-9.5/10
(Not in for the giveaway, but thank you for this opportunity!!)
Movie: Tintin 2011

Don't even think about checking your emails!
Book: Ship of Magic by Robin Hobb. (anything by Hobb really if you like fantasy and this trilogy is just amazing)
Movie: Coherence (Mindf**k on a grand scale with the tiniest budget. Well worth a watch or 5 if you like oddball scifi)
Tv show: so many but I'll have to go with Counterpart (totally underrated noir scifi show that went completely unnoticed because it was on Starz of all places. JK Simmons as a lead is always a sure thing but playing two leads? It's a gem)

Book: Axiomatic by Greg Egan. A collection of short stories from 1990 on haunting dystopias, gene altering and medical ethics, existential philosophy, the future of the species, sacrifice. It touches a lot of things but never stops being relevant.
Movie: I Am A Knife With Legs. Surreal, comedic and with plenty of "ab-holes". This one is a treasure.
TV: Papergirls. Bike-riding, '80s-living paper delivery girls travel in time and meet their future selves. While it's not a must-watch, the pulsing late 80s/early 90s soundtrack makes it all worthwhile.

Well; let's go with some classic stuff :)
Book: The Three Musketeers - it's probably my favorite book ever but it could be some recency bias since I have been reading a lot od Alexandre Dumas's novels lately (I really enjoyed The Count of Monte Cristo as well as others, less known, of his books).
Movie: Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb - it might not be my favorite movie of all time (it's likely between The Good, the Bad and the Ugly and Ben-Hur) but it was the movie that caught me by suprise with how much I ended loving it in comparison to expectations.
Show: Blackadder - I really enjoy British sitcoms, some of them are still really popular in my country (Only Fools and Horses has cult status here and a lot of people know about 'Allo 'Allo!) so it's not an easy choice. However, Blackadder suits me the best so I will go with that.

Book: The Book With No Name by Anonymous - man, I had so many options to choose here, but I'm going with this one. It starts with a gimmick - no name, written by anonymous no, not the hacker group like hell's that, some kind of a joke? - but past that it's a really nice crime/thriller/paranormal/western with a tight action, colourfull cast and a subtle mystery creeping over to the real world. Overall a light read and sure one worth recommending!
Film: Paprika (2006, Satoshi Kon) - by far the most difficult choice to make, there's just so many great films worth recommending and I think it's the most approachable medium since less and less people read books these days and not everyone is willing to commit to a multi episode show so I went with probably least approachable suggestion :) Well, it's anime. Not only that it's also science-fiction and quite psychological but what an awesome spectacle this film is! The gorgeous visuals the stunning soundtrack and the mindbending plot all come together to for a marvelous one-of-a-kind experience! Well, it's one of a kind unless you saw Inception - which is said to be highly inspired by Paprika. At least if you're a fan of Nolan's that's another reason to check it out!
Show: King of the Hill - with this one I chose to go with my most recent watch I've finished it last month. A wholesome comedy/slice-of-life fueled by all american guns, beer and loads of clean-burning, efficient propane! That is real fun ride with a few deep or heartwarming stories thrown here and there. It has it's own identy but for the most part doesn't abuse it (I guess stopping at 13 seasons helped) and it simple makes me want to go grill a burger (on a propane grill of course), crack a cold one with the boys in the alley or simply head to the mall and ask girls around the shoe store for their phone number ;) kudos to the fans who get that reference

No more copy pasta.
Hello and welcome to the madness!
The challenge is simple: Recommend 1 Book/Movie/Show that you enjoyed.
To clarify, you only need to make one recommendation in any category
The prize: Slime Rancher 2
Length and age do not matter. So long as you recommend something, I'm happy. You can go easy mode and pick something popular or go crazy and recommend something super obscure. So long as you genuinely enjoyed it, it is all good.
Just post a comment with your recommendation and you are good to go. Feel free to share your thoughts on why you made the recommendation, but it is not required.
FAQ:
Why you doing this?
I hate money. That and I'm not going to be here for the second half of the month and I didn't want to stop the count with an awkward pause.
I've only watched the first 5 minutes/read the first page and thought it was the best thing ever, can I pick it for the event?
I guess. Not sure why you would, but you do you.
Can I pick something that's not in English?
Of course. The world is a big place and I'm sure there are subtitles/translations. If not, share anyways.
Why only 1 recommendation?
My book backlog is almost as bad as my steam one and I'm no better with shows/films. I want to at least convincingly lie to myself that I'll be able to make a good effort with the recommendations made here.
Wait, if you're not here to give us the link, how can I join?
You can find the link here.
If we can just join, what is the point of making a recommendation?
Only a monster would do that. And you're not a monster right? Don't break my heart D:
This event "ends" on November 1st when the next HB Choice releases, though the giveaway itself will end the next day. If you manage to make a recommendation in between that time, feel free to post, but know that I can guarantee that you'll be able to join the giveaway in time.
Good luck, have fun and stay safe.
Thanks for reading, and know that I won't be checking my emails.
